Interesting.. with the removal of the Awakened archetype I can only assume that retcon gifts will follow.

Wait..so you are already placing some Spider Lockbox items in the Collector's store just because a new lockbox is coming out? Interesting...

If the Automaton powers are no longer locked behind a level up wall, what is the access level to them as far as gold and silver members?

They're not removing the archetype, the Automaton is still an AT and it's unlocked when you hit 40 for the first time; presumably, that's when the powers unlock, too. They're just dropping the "Awakened" category on the Archetype Selection screen, probably because they gave up on the Awakened Archetypes idea. Also, Spider lockbox is Steel Arachnid stuff; Toxic Steel was a couple boxes back!

Still, I don't think that stuff is old enough to go into the Collectors lockbox. May as well not open any lockboxes until it hits the collector's store; the chances of getting those items are about the same between the two. In my opinion, nothing should go into the collector's lockbox until the end of the year. As far as I know the Timewarp event hasn't been cancelled yet, so why the rush to put those things behind a different barrier?

Bug: Pixels aura is not showing up when used in the "in combat" slot. Works fine in "always on." Also, Rainy Day Aura has the opposite problem: Works in "in combat" only but not in "always on"

    @kyastral
Timewarp event now drops collector lockboxes. It makes sense to populate that lockbox with items people want. As an early adopter, you can buy up lockbox items as they appear, or you can be patient and get vouchers when a collector's event comes around. In either case, someone is paying to open lockboxes, and someone is paying for items. I'd say we're good.

Feedback: I love a lot of the upcoming changes, particularly those dealing with Chains and my new favorite theme power, Cower :) I really love the new auras. Cut down looks silly at the moment though, and needs a single blade pose.

Bug: The new chain travel powers aren't unlocking in the Q store.

Well the rumors were false, this certainly not a Celestial DPS AT

Level 35: Masterful Dodge OR Aggressor
Level 40: Breakaway Shot OR Evasive Maneuvers

Now wait a minute, you are giving this AT the choice of Breakaway Shot without Buffing this power?

Come on now, even with the changes, Evasive Maneuvers is STILL gonna be the best option

Buff Breakaway Shot already, you ignored it since the Specialist update
Give it some useful Buff ADVs too, this power is so lackluster outside the animation

What is the idea/theme for the Penitent?
The combination of chain/blade/chainsaw/acrobatics/martial arts isn't coming together in my mind as an archetype.

Yeah, the gauntlet chainsaw does feel out of place on a convict. Everything else makes sense, but not the chainsaw.

I mean, I get what its trying to do (slashing damage city), but, chainsaw blade is random.

Yeah, I also think the AT theme is a bit all over the place. Pretty sure it's supposed to be a Spawn knock-off, though, due to the chains and required chainsaw arm power, but you also have a sword and from 30+ you can choose a couple gun powers?

From what I looked up, the definition of a Penitent is:
-A person who repents their sins or wrongdoings and (in the Christian Church) seeks forgiveness from God.

So, a redemption-seeker of sorts with a somewhat religious styling is what I understood it to be. With the pieces available, I decided to move toward a sort of Witch-hunter type costume. That isn't a cowboy hat.

Yes I know, it's the definition that had a bunch of us convinced that it was going to be some sort of Celestial dps or tank for quite a while. Then dev said it's like an escaped prisoner, hence the chains.

Ah, but Celestial power typically means that they would be an Angel. The likes of which are supposed to be unable to repent if I understand correctly. Cursed to become Fallen Angels should they stray. In this case, the new AT cannot be a Celestial like many were hoping, but rather a simple man who had fallen down the wrong path and seeks to redeem his actions.

This would allow the mold of an "Escaped Prisoner" to fit since the character is trying to become a Hero to make up for previously being a Villain. The definition of a Penitent does not exactly entail Celestial power even if they are the ones that try to seek out forgiveness from them.

The Chains make sense too if you think about it. Take "A Christmas Carol" for example. Even though Jacob Marley is a ghost, he is a Penitent. He seeks forgiveness and redemption, but is forced to bear his chains due to his actions in life, each link supposedly being an individual sin he has gone through.

    --

I've probably gone on long enough and might have derailed a bit, but I think the costume would make a great fit and the powers on the AT to be spot on thematically with its name.

So Imma talk about the new AT because I played it and like it a lot.

Though I like it, I do have a few issues with it. As of right now, it doesn't seem like there's much difference between Cut Down or Thunderbolt Lunge. Baring the bug that makes nailed to the ground for Cut Down cost way more than it should, the only reason to take it is looks. TBL does the same thing and has a Stun advantage, if you felt like taking that. Adding perhaps an adv to make it stack a bleed would help, and in fact would be awesome because it brings me to my next point.

Because it has no other guaranteed bleed proc, the only way to make sure you always are getting form stacks is to take Barbed Lariat. While Slash has a 50% chance on the second hit, I've gone multiple times where things just did not want to proc and thus I fell out of using Holdout Shot.

Lastly, Form of the Swordsman? I mean, I guess stacking Dex instead of Strength is doable. At that point you start losing effectiveness with a few of its specs, but that's the trade-off I suppose. (Edit: I've tested statting more Dex than Str and I can say it works pretty well, actually. A trade-off for more crit and access to a heal debuff. P'good.)

As for what I'd say to improve these points, well, I guess just add a way to get more consistent bleeds.

Just messed around with the tailor to see if I can make a Penitent costume.

Tried to make it look like penitent former bad guy who uses chains. :P
I gotta admit it looks non-heroic. But isn't that what the Penitent AT is?

For the Penitent, Gauntlet Chainsaw kinda sticks out as an oddity in the list as far as theme. It also doesn't really work w/ the rest of the AT's build too well- being very costly but not procing Bleeds at all to work w/ either toggle or the EU (nor can it knock for Unstoppable energy). Otherwise, the AT looks pretty good for trying to capture some of the recent power changes.

While it doesn't cause bleeding, when you have all that endurance and save up enough energy, or have that slow trickle from Wild Thing, you can actually maintain Chainsaw for quite a while. The best thing I've found is to take Barbed Lariat with Unstoppable, fully charged. Not only do you pop Wild Thing but the knock will give you a burst of energy from your passive, allowing you to get a pretty long duration maintain out of it.

Sure, but that strikes me as having to work around the issue a bit too much. The recent power changes have highlighted and revamped many powers to have many diff advs or potential effects to them- mine as well expand that to powers w/ more bare-bones effects like Chainsaw (straight up Slashing dmg in a tiny cylinder that devours energy) to make them easier to accommodate and a bit mote interesting (at least imo).

It would be nice, but in my experience it's rather workable if you know what you're doing. Especially since Strength has a cost reduction for melee in its specs. Annoying workaround aside, though, having a melee focused passive and form makes this AT -Highly- damaging.

Also note that in the recent Bugfixes build they gave Chainsaw Gauntlet the Open Wound advantange which will cause the power to apply stacks of bleed over time.

Aye, that change happened after this discussion took place :p Open Wounds is still not working for it on the PTS, but hopefully they'll fix that.

Gauntlet Chainsaw doesn't really work as an animation (although it makes sense as a weapon). Ideally the Penitent (irony alert!) would have an actual chainsaw, heavy weapons style - although that might be an animation issue and (most likely) challenge the game's "T" rating.
