From the one-shot cut scene, we know there's someone behind all this. Who will it be revealed to be?

I'm hoping for Dark Seraph, but I'd bet on Shadow Destroyer.

No, the Kings of Edom aren't dead. We destroyed their avatars... by defeating them and letting the real Kings of Edom eat the remains. But, y'know, those were just avatars. Not a big deal.

I think it may be someone new.

It wouldn't be the Elder Worms as they are thralls of the Nightmares (read their descriptions - they are being controlled).

It wouldn't be the Kings of Edom - even though we only defeated their avatars. It was clearly stated that someone is using their power.

It wouldn't be Luther Black or Nocturne. Luther, at best, is now simply a nightmare himself conjured up by Nocturne and she doesn't seem to have what it takes to open an entire plane plus enslave the Elder Worms. But someone who might is...

Shadow Destroyer. He might be able to pull something like this off. But even so, I don't think it's him. The real Destroyer gave him a good thrashing. It would be hard to imagine he has regrouped his power base that quickly.

Dark Seraph is the leader of the Crowns of Krim. But just like with Nocturne, I don't think he is powerful enough to pull off something on this scale. The same goes for Talisman.

    That leaves someone...something...new.

Remember when Eventapalooza started? The developers (Crush? Stokeman? I've lost track.) said that there was a driving force behind everything being thrown at us, and we've seen everything from Malvans to Mechanon to these eldritch horrors. I'm thinking the lack of a common thread in the enemies themselves is a common thread of the grand plan, because there's one villain who would have so many different means at their disposal: Istvatha V'han, Empress of a Billion Dimensions. Her forces were turned back not long after the Battle of Detroit. Maybe these are probing attacks, meant to test our defenses and maybe weaken our lines in the process, before another invasion. Besides, multiversal crises are all the rage in comic books these days. Am I right, Fantastic Four-- hey, where'd they go?

Or maybe it's just a Nemesis plot.
Choose your enemies carefully, because they will define you / Make them interesting, because in some ways they will mind you
They're not there in the beginning, but when your story ends / Gonna last with you longer than your friends

I realize that Golden Seraph being the event npc might be an argument for Dark Seraph as the villain. Or could be a coincidence, of course.

    Donald Trump?

Seriously, though... my money would be on Dark Seraph or one of the other Crowns of Krim related dudes who are mentioned in-passing in the game but who haven't turned up yet. DS - If I remember correctly - leaves the player a threatening note at the end of the Witchcraft/Talisman arc in the Desert, so that would make sense.

I hope, though, that that devs have read the CO lore primer and aren't over using the Qlipthotic; that's supposed to be the Cthulhu mythos, where even a sniff of it sends you mad, and it contains boundless, world-destroying power (not some mobs in funny gear who can be wiped out by Spinnytop). :)

This event hints at Shadow Destroyer but I think he's united with Luther Black and posse and they've become the new Avatar's of the King's of Edom. The last time we saw Shadow Destroyer, he was being sucked into a dimensional vortex to Qlipthoth. And we never saw Jack Fool, The Left Hand, or Demoiselle Nocturne actually leave the Qlipthothic realm. In fact, the only one that could have said to have left was Luther Black but even though he was suppose to have died, he could have actually been reconstituted by the Kings to be a new Avatar, giving him the power he always wanted, but of course being chained to them now.

Honestly, I still want to see Destruga and I would love for that map to be created. We see a glimpse of it over Multifaria in Resistance, but I still want to see it in person, maybe even a mini zone with such and of course the big epic showdown we've all been waiting for against Doctor Destroyer. But maybe another time.

I also hope we get a proper Mechanon fight. The one by the Champions building was always meh to me.

Dark Seraph...hmm...I dunno, seems a tad extreme for him to work like this but its not impossible. Temblor and the rest of the Crowns are all in game (technically, if you read in game lore pieces for Temblor).

My thoughts around it were, at first, Demoiselle Nocturne, since there's a lot of fear and nightmarish creatures surrounding the event but the more I run the event, and the more the Qliphothic Acolytes say stuff like:

"We beseech you Shadow of Destruction!" <-- Makes me think of Shadow Destroyer.

I mean, we haven't heard from him since....Resistance when he was crying about being sucked into a portal and cried out to The Presences Beyond etc.

It is entirely plausible that Shadow Destroyer is pulling a Zerstoiten and sending in invading armies and giant monsters.

Given the lore based "destiny intertwining" thingy between Luther Black and Shadow Destroyer, Shadow Destroyer could have reached out to work alongside...Demoiselle Nocturne? *shrug* Not that he'd need to but...yeah.

However the Elder worms presence does sort of enforce the idea that something from Qliphoth or related to it at least is working alongside it, obvious I know but I just thought about it.

So in the end...if there ever was a reveal planned....I think Shadow Destroyer could be the guy behind this perhaps working alongside The Slug for Elder Worm support.

Well the cutscene where Seraph and Witchcraft talk about it seemed to indicate that the power of the Kings of Edom was being used, but that they had no idea who was controlling it.

Doesn't matter even if the Kings of Edom we previously saw in CO are dead. Lore-wise there are other Kings of Edom, probably even more powerful; not to mention other godlike Qliphothic entities -- the Presences Beyond, the gods of the Elder Worm, the Ravens of Dispersion, and things even worse.

Shadow Destroyer should be busy scheming up the Vibora Bay Apocalypse, so it shouldn't be him - notice that in the cut scene at the library they mention that whole thing is going on.

So I think it's going to be the kings of edom, or rather their new avatars. One of them might be Nocturne, and we might even get some Viper people as avatars - maybe the kings of edom were impressed by them when they busted into their throne room and decided to offer them the position as avatars. Just imagine nightmare Ripper, and that other guy who was in Aftershock.

The devs are recycling existing resources here, so I think it won't be a new villain. OTOH, maybe since they have saved on resources they will put some resources into a new villain that they will continue to be used down the line.

I hardly call it recycling when they re taking resources that were never brought forward to begin with and updating them for the modern game. That is something that was desperately needed.

Well, since all the monsters they are using come from the existing game I'd call it recycling. After all, they could create new villains, henchmen and minions, but that may be above what the budget will allow.

Not really, since they create new costumes on a regular basis not to mention these new villains require testing balancing and new attack types. Teleios certainly didn't have the attacks he doe snow, so I would hardly call it recycling when they are doing new things now.

Well Dweomer is a fairly new character, added last Halloween I believe, and so if they added some new missions to this I'd think they'd want to include him as he's not really tied to any particular adventure sets yet.

Because nobody involved realizes that Shadow Destroyer is involved at this point in time. They won't realize that until it's too late, at the end of the crisis. In the "real" time line that happens after the crisis, destroyer's plan to become a king of edom by sucking up therakial fails. I'd be impressed if, his plan having failed, he then quickly jaunts over to the qlyphotic realm and starts up this invasion.

Well the events that happened in the Apocalypse were ended when we traveled back in time and stopped it, and thus Shadow Destroyer never challenged Therakiel. Furthermore, Shadow Destroyer was sucked into a vortex that led to Qliphoth. While I do believe he is behind current events, I also believe he and Lutehr Black and company have become the new Avatar's of the Kings.

Well, with Golden Seraph appearing it might be obvious that Dark Seraph would be the mastermind. Ao'Qephoth can't be the mastermind since he's a player-made Nemesis villain. And for the love of God, don't let it be Shadow Destroyer. He has more appearance than the original Dr.Destroyer himself.

I've got to ask though...when did the Kings of Edom perish? I've done Aftershock and Demonflame. They didn't seem to die when I played those adventure packs.

    Can I just say:

    a) bring back old Ao'Q. Alerts have been less fun since they got nerfed.

    b) a story arc involving Ao'Q would be great fun. One where they vanquish Doctor Destroyer, as the Doc deploys his best weapons and pounds furiously on his Remote Control of Doom shouting "It won't ******** die!".

I'm not saying there aren't new aspects to this event, just that they are using a lot of existing resources here instead of creating something totally new and different. Because of the small team and budget I don't really expect much more than that. I would be very pleasantly surprised if the supposed Master Mind was a totally new villain. OTOH all the talk of a MM may be totally off target since we haven't had anything to test on PTS and the event is live now.

You can get Val's sleeve things in the Golden Seraph's store. It just seems like a clue to me to whom the main villian of all this demon summonig is. Why have parts of her costume if she isn't somehow involved? But then again maybe we have been begging for years for those parts and the MMO gods had mercy on us, and it is all just happenstance. My money is still on Valerian.

But on the other hand... The tanks come in two flavors.... one themed on Golden Seraph("Seraph") and one that seems to be themed on Dark Seraph("Malakim"). Unless the name Malakim has some meaning I'm unaware of....

Of course, if the Kings of Edom angle is true it could be there is a dark cabal of villains involved. There could be several new avatars of the kings with Dark Seraph AND Valerian Scarlet among them.

Malachim (more proper spelling) is the hebrew plural of Malach: angel or messenger. Generally, if you see a noun end with -im, it's probably from hebrew and probably plural. Malakim is a variant spelling.

Seraph is of course also a hebrew word. (Angel of the highest rank associated with light, order, and purity).

I find it bizarre that they named one in the singular (Seraph, pl. Seraphim) and the other in the plural. That's just weird.

Anyway, doesn't seem particularly 'dark' themed, unless you think messengers deserve to get shot.

Hmm... I just thought of something interesting.... Golden Seraph said outright that this event was being created by one or more people who channeled the power of the Kings of Edom. Dark Seraph wields one of the crowns of Krim. Is it possible to control both powers at once?

Do we finally see the much vaunted 'League of Destruction'? (which includes our own Nemesis, led by Shadow Destroyer from beyond the Quilophic realm?) Or is it a new mysticism-based 'Cabal of Chaos' that includes everyone on the list in this poll (with Dark Seraph at the helm - - Helm...helmet...crown...get it?! haha!)
