UI Change: More Device Slots, Remove/Toggle Upgrades Tray

Champions has changed a lot over the years. AFAIK some gear items functioned as devices, but gear generally doesn't anymore. Also, there are now vehicles. Lots of vehicles. Also, there are now a bunch of devices with cool downs that only cool-down when slotted.
I suggest:
  • Add another row of device slots above the first row. Have the first row be default activated by control plus 1-5, and the second row control plus 6-0.
  • Add a toggle to the "Upgrades Tray" in HUD Prefs since that doesn't really do anything now and does the same thing as the character window.

I will have to disagree with this. Players need to make choices, it's part of building your character. Not even Batman can have everything at the ready, despite his ridiculous levels of OP he's had in recent years.

I must agree. Having device cooldown on equip stinks, but it lowers character power level by a bit.

Granted, one can use Character builds to circumvent some of the device cooldowns.

That was part of the point in adding device cooldowns on equip... many devices were overpowered and players switching devices out on their tray between CDs was giving players who could afford numerous devices far more power than they should have had.

I would agree with this, but only if the device trays were made in such a way that, tray #1 could only equip functional devices, like ice nade, NPG, dino juice and so on and that tray #2 could only equip "toy" devices, like the perma snowball, super mag, squeeky sword and so on.

I was agreeing with Silverspar, in that adding the ability to use more devices would add too much power to characters.

Having a cosmetic/toy/funzies equipment slot or two would be nice, though. For instance, a place to leave your Teleport to RenCen, permanent snowball, collection of Foxbatcon Swagbags, etc. Might be too tricky to code--probably would have to create a new device tag for many, many devices.

Just make a 'social' build and build-swap over to it when you want to use all your toys.

Ah, fair enough. I forgot about that. Good idea.

    Too bad about silvers.

I think the cool-downs (especially the cross device cool-downs) help with the devices being too overpowered. It doesn't really matter how many summons players have if they can only summon one at a time. But maybe making a second device tray for vehicles, becomes, teleport devices, and non-damaging social devices would be a great idea. But then someone would have to go through all the devices and tag them combat or non-combat.

I'll just agree that the display of your current gear in the bottom right is pointless. There's nothing clickable there that you won't automatically see when you open your bag and character window and it just takes up screenspace for no reason.n Screen real estate is valuable; any superficial UI elements should be removed until they are actually needed.

Slot types would be the best way to go for that, rather than the multi-tray approach. But ultimately (and not to its credit) CO doesn't really like devices.
