Here we have a variation on the theme of a force tank. I built this on the framework of Flowcyto's force tank from his Themed Tank Depot

Most of the “lookit me, I'm a tank” advantages are left untouched. I added in Bionic Shielding because I needed a little more survival after ripping out Personal Force Field and Field Surge.

I found PFF to be too glassy and when it was shattered I was locked into blocking or die. Field Surge could help with that sometimes, but usually it was down and I just had to wait and try to plug the wounds with Conviction.

I put in Invulnerability and it helps mitigate the agony between Active Defenses.

I Added Resurgence because I really needed another AD for more coverage.

Circle of Ebon Wrath? What?! Yes indeedly doodley friends. This is how I hit a little harder while still being a bit tanky. It does dowse my self healing a bit and it might not be the best thing to use when the boss and all his goons are looking straight at you.

But I find that when I have an AD rolling, Bionic Shielding up and lots of energy coming in, I really want to dish out a little more damage. So circle up and let it fly. You can always abandon it by repositioning.

I dropped Force Cascade entirely. It took way too much energy. I never was able to get it rolling with my other powers and when I did use it, it just didn't seem that impressive with the little bit of charge I could give it.

I did need a can opener to peel open those pesky bosses though, so I went with defile. There is no synergy at all there. None. It just has a reasonably high base damage and is not so energy intensive that I cannot use it until blue moons collide. If there is a better boss-buster out there that doesn't require its own specialized build to use, let me know. Or if there is something that synergizes with this build, I am all ears.

I tested this in the most annoying test bed around, Power House, Battle Station, 5 man Demon setting.

It does great against groups. It is seriously bad damage-wise against single targets. Something about how they just don't seem to hit me in a way that gives me any energy yet they still do damage. Single targets take a ton more management and attention. Not sure exactly why that is but that last boss takes longer to kill than the whole rest of his or her retinue.

Survivability wasn't much of a problem. Bionic Shielding served as a buffer to get out of shielding and conviction gave me a cushion I could usually fight through between ADs.

CC was a bummer and I had no way of controlling that short of just full shield turtle. It is super annoying to get knocked out of your circle. But I guess thems the brakes for having a circle.

CoEW's dmg bonus is in the earliest layer, so for a FF that's geared it won't be that great, imo. Ya mine as well take CoPD if ya want a circle power- it works better for a tank (dmgRes, added threat, huge knock resist boost), and doesn't have a healing penalty.

And yea, Force w/o FC is a bit low on dps. Ya could add Force Detonation in there for a small spike, but atm Force is one of those very lopsided sets that can be tricky to work with. Ya could consider Typhoon over FC, if ya want a cheaper alternative that's similar in properties (though w/o the huge scatter KB).

Ego Surge w/ NM (instead of LnL) can also bump ur burst dps a bit- the Energy Form part is the base AO, so even if ya consume it w/ FC it still leaves the NM part (the better part) behind. Outside of that, its still the best AO for dps using Con SS.

Hmmm I didn’t think about Typhoon, that’s a nice touch. I was never in love with the knockback so I won’t miss it. Plus I think it will play nice with Wind Reverb yeah? It has a repel chance doesn’t it? I will have to check that.

I was dubious about Lock and Load but it was in the original loadout and I didn’t see a concrete reason to boot it out so I just left it. But I see what you mean about Ego Surge. I probably should have cycled it in just on principal.

I wanted Circle of Ebon Wrath so I could wring a little more DPS out of this almost tank. I wanted to make something that climbed out of “Tank or Damage but not both” paradigm, even if only a little bit.

But CoPD would make him a little tougher that’s true. I hate to see his already tenuous damage relevancy slipping away. Maybe I can try to gear for a return to Force Cascade at some point in the distant future. Or I could just replace it with another Active Offense.

I considered Energy Wave or Unleashed Rage but this is a ranged affair and I shouldn’t be getting point blank attacks. The whole point is to be able to stand in one place and zap around.

Thank you for the comments though, always valued.

Well, rotating in Typhoon when high energy can help w/ sustain dps, as can using ES/NM, as can rotating in Force Detonation on knock immune targets. They all won't be huge dps boosts, but can offset what ya'd lose w/ CoEW.

Force relies too heavily on FC for dps, imo. At least Force Blast has a nice dmg bonus when fully charged on knock immune targets (20-25% I believe). Charging FBlast means more dps on bosses then, but also possibly less threat per sec since CripC won't be registering as rapidly.
