Idea for Power Replacers

dragonfist8dragonfist8 Posts: 82 Arc User
So I've had this idea for a good while now, and the more I think about it, the more I realize that it could work out really nicely for being able to bring back power replacers in a different, but similar way. Before On Alert hit, power replacers took the primary offense slot, in which would change the appearance of certain powers and also add a different damage type to it, whether it be electrical dmg to your gun/sword moves, or sonic dmg to your mental powers to name a couple of examples. But what if instead of it taking the primary offense slot, which on it's own is bad, considering you're losing a ton of stats, including mods, it instead became a passive device similar to the few we currently have in game, such as the Elder Worm Humidity Dome for example. Doing so would allow the device to play on certain powers and change the effects similar to the way they used to, however a problem could occur if you had multiple power replacer devices in the tray, unless maybe theirs a way to only allow 1 in the tray at a time? If this doesn't work, than perhaps add a new slot in the build window, in which to add a power replacer mod, or somewhere beside your power tray?

The problem with power replacers is that they're a maintenance nightmare (because of the horrific way powers are coded, as far as I can tell).
  • isn't that basically what Become devices are - mass power replacers? if so, it can't be that much of a maintenance nightmare since there are so many of them, and i'm pretty sure they just released some new ones over the winter event...or maybe they were added years ago; i don't actually know

No. The difference is this: Become powers aren't tied to player powers. If you, for example, decide to modify 2 gun mojo, ideally you want all your changes to be automatically inherited by all the power replacers. However, what actually happens is that some of your changes get inherited, some of them don't, and getting everything to work properly may require you to modify every power replacer. By comparison, become powers either are player powers, or aren't tied to player powers and don't have to echo what they do.

I'll be blunt on this, power replacers are never returning.
What may return are their costumes at some point.

That sucks a bit but I can look on the brightside. Hope to see the costumes again soon... along with some kind of proper crafting alongside the mod system but I won't bug you about that right now

consdering that is the case, can we at least get some cosmetic options/aura/whatever to have the visual functionaility from some of the power replacers returned? [like laser bolts for pistols, or flaming swords or light arrows and so on]

What about some of their graphical effects? While many of them are uninteresting or don't have much use outside of the concept of a power replacer, the various Qularr weapons have interesting gfx that could be part of something like an 'Alien' power set, some of the effects associated with the U-ELC Screech Owl could be turned into new Sonic Blaster powers, and the (ugly and grating) Pulse Beam Rifle gfx could be replaced by something like the Kinetic Assault Rifle or Gadroon Assault Rifle.

Ok, I can live with that. I look forward to seeing these costumes, if they come at all.

I do agree with some of the suggestions above, in which we should at least get some visual changers for powers. Some kind of middle ground on this would be nice, instead of "Nah, they're never coming back" and that's it.

Because to change the power effects requires inventing new powers, basically, to create said effects. Not to men tion, we know at least a few of said power replacers overpowered certain powers to begin with.

I second that, Weapon Auras would be Neato!

I'm aware of how unbalanced some were back then, and I'm not talking about bringing back the same ones. Just something of similar concept to add at least a different visual to powers, and or added effects, such as a small amount of electrical, dimensional, fire, etc. dmg to a power...and as I just mentioned, even just a shiny visual aura to weapon attacks would be cool

The mod crafting system sucks **** its so lame and beyond boring!!! I'd much rather have the old crafting system back. At least you could unlock new weapon skins, and have cool **** like flaming claws, ice axes, fire swords, and whatnot.

Maybe bring the old weapon and power replacer crafting system back & update it so it's less frustrating to make new items. Won't hold my breath on that tho
