Blizzard can't "stop" DDoS attacks. Microsoft can't. Morgan Chase Bank can't. The US freaking Government can't.
Why exactly do you expect that Cryptic can??
"Science teaches us to expect -- demand -- more than just eerie mysteries. What use is a puzzle that can't be solved? Patience is fine, but I'm not going to stop asking the universe to make sense!"
what Cryptic needs to do , is a BIG anouncement on the NW forums, stating that ALL exploits will now be stomped on really hard and accts banned for using them.

That's Interesting, what makes you think that excaly?, not arugeing with you, just really curious, as I'm pretty sure that this person is breaking the law in some way right?, or am I completely wrong?
As for not being able to stop it?, How excaly, Not skilled with that level of hacking or de-hacking, in this case, but can't they not server the persons connection or use some sort of, Firewall or so?.
Interested in learning about this, so forgive the stupid qeastions, if they are..
The twit evidently resides somewhere in northern Europe, so it's not just a matter of saddling up the nearest FBI office and busting down the door to his mom's basement.
And any firewall secure enough to stop a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, which is basically just overloading the server with data requests, would lock us all out too.

The first D in DDoS is Distributed. Hundreds to thousands of computers, spread across the globe, pitch a few kbps at Cryptic which adds up fast. Banning individual sources won't have a noticeable effect. Ban entire regions and you'll likely take out legit traffic.
Firewalls do exactly jack and squat for this. The attackers just have to hit the firewall with enough data to make sure no one else's can get through.
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I don't have the details for your other questions, though.
