Was there ever any plans on adding a Foundry to CO ? Like in STO and NW? Found myself looking for it today and almost disappointed it wasnt available...
First they'd need to fix it. I've authored numerous foundries, and last time I checked, you couldn't even add or edit a sound file in a foundry project without causing an instant crash to desktop (every time). Not to mention in any project that has more than 1 map, everyone gets dumped into different instances on the 2nd and succeeding maps (and past the 2nd there wasn't even any way to get back together)...that made group-based content all but impossible.
CO was originally promised foundry back when they first developed it. But it got done for STO first, because that's where the money was. And like many features that CO was promised which the other games got, CO still hasn't gotten it, and likely never will.
Was there ever any plans on adding a Foundry to CO ?
They looked into it and it would be so much work that all other development would have to be put on hold for quite a while. Not worth it until the playerbase is satisfied with the current amount of content.
That sounds pretty definite, admittedly with work to start a year later (they already had the on alert massive changes slotted in at that point). Its not the first time they'd told us about Foundry stuff either, since that's post STO's foundry. It was a routine part of CO dev communications about upcoming features during the development of Foundry for STO. I don't have a convenient way to search old news articles though.

according to a european site which reported on NW's startup saying it would have the Foundry just like the othrr 2 games. They amended the article after I emailed them adn pointed out CO didn't have the Foundry despite people asking. he said he was going on information 3 years old , so 2010.
STO's foundry took a year to get working and crashes with each patch, sometimes taking other things with it.
Foundry would have been better to be implemented in Champions first since the other two games were genre exclusive. I'd say if Champions had this, it would be high if not on top of the PWE line up. Its such a shame that Cryptic boasted the original Champions IP was what inspired them for City of Heroes, they sure have betrayed it when they got full rights to the system and source material. Champions was the obvious choice to get this system yet the people in charge had dollar signs for STO and NWO.
Ever since launch its only been systems that they worked on in alpha. In fact all content we have seen up to today has been code that has sat around since the game's inception.

Nothing I read there was any kind of commitment at all. They talked about what they WANTED to do, that they were PLANNING. None of that is "you promised us we'd get the Foundry".

Good thing too. I've seen quite a few companies running games I loved with small populations go completely out of business over the past few years, and I'm happy that Cryptic made sure they had cash flowing in so they could keep running. I don't care who you are, when both Star Trek and D&D come knocking on the door of your game development studio you do the happy dance and you put everything into making sure they're happy and willing to keep working with you. Would've been nice if CO had been a Marvel thing so it would have had the same weight.

Oh ffs, old unsearchable news is old and unsearchable. That particular one is *definite* that foundry was going to get worked on and was planned. They also had plenty of other news back then which talked about foundry coming to CO, but i can't magically snap my fingers and find it, as Cryptic no longer hosts the old news, and wayback machine doesn't have archives of the directory pages.
They originally promised us Foundry, and if you don't believe me, you can spend 20+ minutes poking around archived CO pages and see what you can find. But you might as well take my word for it, because there was nothing uncertain about it at the time.

As I recall, it was originally supposed to be - until someone at Marvel decided that MMOs were just a fad, and pulled out. (That also lost us the support Microsoft was going to provide, for XBox support - that's why there's support for the XBox support baked into the code.)
And now Marvel's got a Diablo clone that they're calling an MMO...

since you didn't check the link I posted.
When will players get access to any Foundry-like systems? Here's the paragraph.
While we are aware that access to the Foundry tools is desirable to some of our players, we cannot promise any dates yet. The ramp-up time to making this feature work in Champions is extremely time-consuming, and our current priority is on planning exciting new content releases for the upcoming months.
except we didn't get the second because our devs got stripped, because NW was behind it's release schedule.
Look peoples STO and Neverwinter came after this game. The two engine follow ups to this game got new better features. Its normally what happens with newer games.
Champions Online does not have the foundry. Deal with it.

I remember what ESD was like before it was destroyed and rebuilt. And I really don't miss getting into the turbolift to go to Quinn's office, pressing the interact button - and promptly falling through the floor and into outer space until suddenly landing on Quinn's floor upstairs. Took falling damage about half the time. Something similar happened on the lift in my own ships, except with no falling damage and often into grayspace instead of sector space.
They did fix the glitch that let you roam the halls of ESD as your starship before I came along, but I've heard about it.
That's why I never got all that heated about most of our little graphical glitches - at least I can count on the ground being there most of the time...
Oh, and speaking of the ground, remember when STO was supposed to have procedurally-generated exploration missions? Only a) it was all along the lines of collect five of these, kill five of those, and b) after a while things started generating below the map. I gave up on them when I was supposed to chase the Klingons off one colony world, and they were shooting at us from underground and we couldn't even target them. Good times, good times.

I liked the one, where you pressed the lift but had to be standing in the right spot or it wouldn't open the lift... and they only fixed that about a year ago. I think that was one of the time travel storyline.

we have been told repeatedly, the files aren't annotated, like the other 2 games, so before they can do any Foundry they have to do that.
like this one, down to the second last question
