  It's random. There are times of the year you can expect (holidays) but other than that they don't give you a heads up. Could easily have a freeform on sale next month....they want you to keep signing in.

  Wait, do you mean you have freeform characters sitting around from when you were a subscriber, and you'd like to play them again without subscribing? Buying a freeform slot won't help with that. It gives you a character slot that is freeform and can be used without a subscription, but you can't transfer an existing character into the new slot.
  
  Or do you mean you've already purchased several freeform slots, and you'd like to get some more? In that case, I'd advise you that a freeform slot is about $50 and a lifetime subscription is about $300. If you're thinking you might buy 6 or more freeform slots in the future, just go with the lifetime subscription instead. Granted, freeform slots go on sale occasionally, but lifetime subscriptions do too.

  Its pretty rare but they do go on sale a few times a year, its just a matter of catching them at the right time.

  Thanks for that! Means those free-form slots won't do me much good; I was mainly wanting to convert a couple of main's over, not re-do them from scratch. Better to learn that now than to blow money on a free-form slot when they're on sale and then learn I can't convert my existing mains over.

  LTS seem to go on sale around July 4 IIRC. I think they may go on sale at some other point during the year as well. When they are on sale they are $200.

  they are new characters, just like other character slots you buy, they just happen to be FF.​​
