I think I'll wait a year or so, eventually they'll have some kind of low priced deal on steam. By then the modding community will have hopefully fixed most of the bugs and CTD issues Bethesda left in.
Great game but its like Bethesda went HEY lets take Skyrim and re-skin it with Fallout's clothes and HEY lets put Borderlands style loot in here as well and HEY lets put a Final Fantasy VII style airship in there and HEY these kids like Minecraft/Ark lets put some survival crafting and HEY State of Decay is good lets put some community building and defense in there also and HEY lets have the option to chat up Linda Carter cause reasons.
The bugs I keep hearing about makes me glad I am waiting 6 months min for the mod community to fix Bethesda ineptitude. And don't get me started on the low texture quality.

Spar the texture quality is fooking amazing the game looks great seriously its Skyrim on chems and so much green...seriosuly grass, plants trees everywhere. The stills and You Tube vids dont do it justice. The plots also decent enough ( which is great for a Beth made game :P ) It makes a great change from the Obsidian fan fiction nightmare that was New Vegas ._."
The main bug seems to be minor as it stops you over writing old save files now and then, easily dealt with by saving a new file then deleting the old one if your on PC or Ps4 .... Xbox One users having a harder time of it :I But yeah Bethesda QA still sucks .
As someone who sell games for a living I will give you all my honest advice: PC owners get it now as theres already mods that fix stuff. Ps4 owners wait a couple of weeks till another patch comes out. Xbox one owners... just fire up your 360 and play Fallout 3 cause that sh*ts busted :I
6 months time though all the modding tools will be out.

I'm playing on the XBox and have had no technical difficulties so far. Game looks great, plays great, logged 20 hours and not a single issue with game saves.
Honestly the only thing I find broken so far are my stupid farmers who can't seem to grow the crops I assign them to. Hardly anywhere near a showstopper.

Sounds like a bug. I went to Sanctuary and unloaded several point blank shotgun clips into Preston. He asked me what I was shooting at.... Plus, I'm pretty sure one of the Minutemen died in that battle due to my bottlecap mines or my indiscriminate missile launcher spam and no one cared.

It finally happened to me. But it seemed to happen on a duplicate save, so I didn't actually lose any progress, which was cool.
It only started happening when I set my xbox to actually shut down instead of going into low-power mode. Before, it would never actually quit the game. I'd save it one night, shut down the xbox, turn it on the next day, and all I had to do was unpause and I'd be back in the game. So somewhere between saving, shutting down, starting up, and loading is where the save gets corrupt.
Easy fix: Save twice. So far only one save game got corrupted at a time.
I did have another issue, though I'm not sure how much of this is a bug and how much isn't.
Back in Sanctuary, I have my power armor suit sitting in the armor workstation thing. I found like 5 more power suits, and parked them near my main one. A couple days later (real time) I notice that all the power suits are just frames. No armor on them (except for my main one; it stayed completely put). I'm like "what the hell, did I get robbed?" So I go back a few saves to one where my suits had armor pieces on them. I go up to collect the armor so it doesn't happen again, and they're empty, even though they LOOK like they have armor on them. As soon as I stick in the fusion core, the graphics for the armor disappear. All of the suits except my main one.
That was lame, I had to go back like two days worth of playing, but I'm caught up now, and decided to store my stuff in a heavily guarded location, with all armor pieces put away in a container.

I figured it out though! I found the unique baseball bat and did what seemed to be a crit to Preston that sent him flying. He became hostile, gun drawn and everything, so I kept hitting him until he went unconscious. He wasn't hostile to me anymore after.

Unfortunately the game's plot pretty much ensures that even if someone ever makes a playable ghoul or synth race it won't work story-wise...
And why is Cap Ironsides not a recruitable follower? He's boss.
Oh, well, at least there are Nick and Curie.
What a refreshing game after this drivel of an overhyped fantasy dating simulator that was DA:I.
You can just ignore the story of the game. All of the dialog is still skippable and a mod making the protag silent is already out. Cats are pretty common for something that's supposed to be extinct. There are some other things that don't make sense as well. But, the story seems mostly OK so far. Not that I've gotten very far with it doing all that re-rolling. And exploring. There are a lot of deathclaws. Plus, no-clipping my fences together takes time. Can't wait for someone to make a mod for easy fencing without the giant gaps.
Ew. Followers. Their AI is still irritating. But hey, lots of romance choices because everyone is conveniently bisexual! Who can say 'no' to someone in a vault suit?
Don't worry, there will be mods making every remotely cool NPC into a follower. And probably half of the follower mods from New Vegas and Fallout 3 will get ported forward.
Ew. Followers. Their AI is still irritating. But hey, lots of romance choices because everyone is conveniently bisexual!
We live in the Age of Outrage. If homosexuality isn't represented, there will be outrage.
(I'm not saying it's limited to homosexuality; people complain about anything when whatever they are or are into isn't represented. You have to be all-inclusive these days.)
It's more like Bethesda not bothering themselves with coding something like gender as a dialog flag in romances. It's not like their marriage was super detailed in Skyrim. I bet that "romance' is there because playerbase these days expects something like that, so Bethesda were like *shrug* "okay, let's put some inside and call it a day".
Did not bother myself with romances in Bioware games, sure as hell I'm not gonna bother this time. Curie can keep her flying ping-pong ball body. It's not like I need her otherwise.
Already found some neat mods to use with the game:
- Lowered Weapon animation to prevent your character constantly holding their gun up when they're not in combat - Louder rain sounds and better rain effects - Darker nights - Instant PC hacking (I don't care for the crappy word guessing "mini game" if I already meet the skill requirement)
My thoughts on the game: It's Skyrim with a Fallout skin and that's not entirely a bad thing. One change I really like to VATS is that it's no longer an easy Freeze Time, OHKO thing any longer like it was in FO3. It made things especially boring and easy-cake in that game. Weapon and armor modding are things I really like, as is settlement customization.
I know there's a mixed response as to what they did to power armor though I feel it makes sense that it actually requires power now to function. I like how for once power armor's usage is limited and it is no longer the top-tier must have armor like in the first three games (never played BoS or NV). I can now rely on other armor types both practically and aesthetically.
I was kinda hoping Bethesda would expand on the four lover's perks from New Vegas. I know they were mostly rubbish for story, but some of the dialog was fun. There were also some options to use them for finishing quests just like any other perks or knowledge. Making all of the characters bisexual is just lazy. I don't even know why they bothered. Could have left it for modders to do.
Power armor is awesome now. I like that it is an exoskeleton you step into instead of equipping as normal armor. And it's way more protecting than normal armor which makes sense. Some of the power armor from the previous two games was barely better than medium / heavy regular armor.
I haven't even finished the game and I'm already modding up my game. Mostly texture optimizations and some recolors... And the teddy bear nukes. It's fun to come across a teddy bear sitting on a desk and discovering it's actually a mini nuke.
The biggest thing I don't like about settlements is how irritating it is to make fences that don't have gaping holes in them. And how npcs are really picky about the stairs they will even try to walk up. Sturges decided to warp onto a random roof instead of walking up the stairs to a guard post on top of a tower.
Does anyone else think the baby looks weird and creepy? I'm pretty sure it's actually a robot demon baby.
I like that they made the Power Armor a sort of limited resource. It adds an extra dimension to the game, and I only use it when I really need to beat the crap out of something. It's cool. I wish I could use it forever, but where's the fun in that, where I can just destroy anything with one or two hits and not take a shot myself? No gripes here, it adds a great dynamic to the game.
Ew. Followers. Their AI is still irritating. But hey, lots of romance choices because everyone is conveniently bisexual!

Furries are not represented in FO4 like they are in TES! This has triggered me, I am now going to post idiotic b**lshit on Tumblr and Twitter right after I gain 7 stone and dye my hair blue. I have also decided that the Ren Cen circle is a furry only healing space and no cishumans are allowed!

I was about to say SHUTUP NEPHT but then you said dog, and now you have a valid point.
Fallout has always been about the vault dweller though, so I don't think all those races will ever happen.
It was easier to do with the Courier in FNV. The protagonist had no past, so redoing player character as a ghoul/mutant/robot worked just fine. Both classic Fallouts and F3/F4 are tailored to vault survivors, can't work otherwise.
Playable races would work if the Elder Scrolls template that started with Morrowind was used; player is a prisoner. I was thinking of the idea that the player from outside the vault gets in via some hidden underground crevice other and the paranoid Overseer locks him/her up in some prison cell. When some catastrophe happens in the vault (don't they always?) the player gets an opportunity to break out and start the adventure. That way the main character doesn't have to be a vault dweller.
Just an idea, though the whole prisoner angle with every new TES game is getting kind of repetitive.
Both classic Fallouts and F3/F4 are tailored to vault survivors, can't work otherwise.
What? You just wait for a playable races and alternate starts mods and you're good to go. I had the Shojo race dressed up in Halo armor carrying Star Wars weapons and glow sticks playing, good times. The alternate start would stick you in a random location with some default starting gear, you just make up whatever story goes with that and avoid the main plot for a few levels to get into that survivor feel. I even played as Batman for a while, he's kind of like a vault dweller.

F3 and F4 plots are tied to your progeny. Strictly. Your family are humans. An alternate race will pass only if you handwave the main plot. F2 plot can work with any character as long as it comes from a tribal village with an elder knowing about GECK and FNV has no player backstory at all aside of working as a courier.
Just wanted to point out that the player character in Fallout 2 was not a vault dweller but a tribal descendant of a legendary one from the first game. Sure they got to wear the tights but they still didn't come from a vault. Though only humans were playable that's not to say that the same tribal concept couldn't be applied just with inhabitants from different races.
Super mutants are humans that were dumped in FEV. The Master used to be a human. The Master's army was created by kidnapping humans and dumping them in FEV. Harold / Bob was a human exposed to FEV. The fire ants in Greyditch were created from exposure to FEV. The Nightkin? Used to be human. The super mutants of vault 87 kidnapped humans because exposing them to FEV was the only way to make more super mutants. Ghouls are humans that were exposed to **** loads of radiation. Vaults generally are all about crazy experiments, so it wouldn't be hard to make a vault dweller a super mutant or a ghoul before or after leaving the vault.
Making new races is as simple as adding FEV or radiation. Or both.
Maybe not necessarily just a different vault, but a different settlement altogether that's relevant to the race. A Non-feral ghoul player could start in Necropolis. A super mutant one in some abandoned military establishment. An intelligent Deathclaw in maybe an abandoned vault. Maybe even a BoS knight in one of their bases.
The kind of content involved would bigger than what's expected in a typical Fallout game since I'd expect that each race would have their own different relevant storyline with how they interact with the world; something I'd see in a Fallout MMO.
Necropolis was destroyed by The Master's army in Fallout cannon. Although, I guess in the years since it happened it could have been rebuilt. I think The Chosen One killed all of the intelligent Deathclaws. Not sure if the Enclave is up to making more considering they keep having runs of bad luck with vault dwellers.
After seeing what happened to The Old Republic and Elder Scrolls, I'm less interested in a Fallout MMO. But, modders have made Roleplayer starts in New Vegas that let you be various other factions. Modders. People who are not professionals. Doing a better job than the people who made the game. Although, I haven't seen a super mutant race.
I think I'll wait a year or so, eventually they'll have some kind of low priced deal on steam. By then the modding community will have hopefully fixed most of the bugs and CTD issues Bethesda left in.
You're wasting your time. I'm 100 hours in and the bugs are little to none. I haven't crashed at all, and in those 100 hours only twice did I have to reload a save due to something getting hung up.
You could be playing the game right now and have a grand ol' time. I understand waiting for a sale though, gotta love those deals!
Did this thread already discuss how Bethesda is "literally killing and murdering the entire LGBT+ community" by "forcing players into a cisexual heterosexual binary marriage"?

"Better job" is a bit harsh to say. It's perfectly within developers' rights to not even consider some things. Doesn't matter if people wanna play a ghoul or a robot or a guy from the Legion or whatever; if it's irrelevant to the story the developers want to tell, they shouldn't feel obliged to even consider wasting time and resources on it.
Developers aren't in any kind of competition with modders. Modders serve their purpose by adding neat stuff to the game for free (though I think they should still be able to sell mods) whether it fits with what the developers wanted to do or not, and it comes off as totally optional for the people who think the mods would be a waste of space.
Modders. People who are not professionals. Doing a better job than the people who made the game.
"Better job" is a far-fetched thing to say considering that mods and especially "unofficial fixes" that modders release tend to be bug ridden as well and there's no assurance that certain bugs can get fixed, just like the ones introduced into the game by the official developers.
If by "better job" you mean unofficial third-party content that seeks to enrich the gameplay in some manner, that's subject to personal preference.
The only problem I have with Fallout 4 is the female Sole Survivor is oddly cheerful. The female version is the worst for not giving a %$#* about all the horrible events that just occurred in their life. (Insert important person here) just got shot and (insert other important person here) is now a beardy Darth Vader but none of that matters because she has a dog. Seriously with my male play through I went full hero, but with my current female one I'm just blowing everyone up and being sarcastic about afterwards :P
I ended up just deciding to roll with it as Bethesda games tend to be stupid in a good way.
I knew beforehand that the premise of the plot has to do with looking for other important person. It didn't say anything about how that person was going to turn out. Just avoid the spoilers okay?
