AC/DC Split Personality Build

edited October 2015 in Builds and Roles
My concept for this build is a split personality, where one side is more aggressive and the other is passive.

The power frameworks are mostly Electric and Force.

Aggressive would use Ranged DPS/Electric Form/Concentration.
Passive would use Hybrid/Personal Force Field/Inertial Dampening Field.

First question is whether to switch the Guardian & Vindicator trees (G then V or V then G)?

Second Question is regarding powers: there are only 5 actual attacks, 3 of which are AOE attacks, and 3 of which are 100 Foot long range attacks.

Electric Bolt....Energy Builder
Lightning Arc Single Target Maintain/Negative Ion/100 Foot
Spark Storm.......PBAOE/Knock Back/Negative Ion
Thunder Strike...Ranged Sphere AOE Charged/Negative Ion/100 Foot
Gigabolt........Cylinder AOE Charged/Negative Ion/100 Foot

You can see (hopefully) see the pattern here. Each attack brings with it something different, and each sticks to the theme, Electric.
However, the "all Electric" may be an Achilles Heel that I would like to get around...

Third Question brings me to my Stats, which is where I probably should have started.

Ego Ranged damage boost (and the Specialty Tree)
Constitution Hit Points
Endurance Energy
Dexterity Increases Critical Chance (not a SS, but is boosted by Talents)

Do I go with Con/End or End/Con (or something totally different)?

Fourth Question is Travel Powers. I really like the idea of Athletics/Acrobatics but with this build(s) being centered around long range attacks maybe some form of flight might be better, especially in the early to mid leveling?

Anyway, here is the Build itself:

I'm back with some changes of my own concoction for this build.

I changed the Defensive side of the split personality to center on self healing.
    • Aggressive = Ranged DPS Role/Electric Form Passive/Concentration Toggle
    • Defensive = Hybrid Role/Regeneration Passive/Concentration Toggle

Also added Smoke Bomb for the threat cleanse.
Also switched many of the powers around (along with changes to the advantages).
Swapped the order of the Specialty Trees (Ego, Vindicator then Guardian).
Changed the Travel Powers around, but still not certain if I like the outcome.
Dropped Spark Storm for Lightning Storm w/Stolen Thunder (Knock Down) (and more powerful).

    New List of Attacks
    • Electric Bolt: Energy Builder
    • Lightning Arc: Single Target/Maintain/Negative Ion/100 Foot
    • Thunder Strike: Ranged Sphere AOE/Charged/Negative Ion/100 Foot
    • Lightning Storm: Ranged Sphere AOE/Maintain/Negative Ion/Knock Down/50 Foot
    • Gigabolt: Cylinder AOE/Charged/Negative Ion/100 Foot
    • Smoke Bomb: Huge PBAOE/Threat Wipe/150 Foot

Still thinking about switching the order of the Super Stats (and thus changing the First Spec Tree). See the next post for that build's details.

And here it is, the only shortly awaited "Dexterity Primary Stat" version of the Split Personality Build.

Again, I changed the Super Stats (dropped Con for Dex), Talents, First Spec Tree & Mastery.

This version is much more invested in Critical Hits and Dodging. Also replaced Rebirth with Masterful Dodge. I'll just have to carry some sort of go juice...

Palliate/absolve would prob be more reliable as a threat wipe than Smoke Bomb. I also prob wouldn't bother w/ IDF- its scaling is pretty poor, and Concentration gives ya much dmg and extra energy to work with.

One issue for the builds is that ya have CripC on ur main single target attack (LArc). That's great when ur tanking w Regen, but not so much when trying to dps w/ Elec Form. If ya don't want to be a formal group tank, then ya can just drop CripC for R3.

I'd prob go w/ either EGO/Con/End, INT/Con/End, or CON/Int/End for SS setups (Con PSS more for tanking and knock resist; other two for dps).

Order of the specs doesn't really matter- unless ur leveling, and even then its not really a big deal either way.

I'd prob keep 2 adv points leftover for ranking ur main travel power. I usually have one fast ground TP for indoors, and the other for flight.

flowcyto: Thanks for the suggestions. I feel like such a fool about the Crippling Challenge on my only Single Target attack. Especially after making the big deal (TWICE!) about how each of my attacks offered something special...

I must have looked at the wrong/out of date articles regarding Smoke Bomb. When I went back and looked further guess what I found? Duh... Palliate here I come.

I also did go back to the faster ground Travel power, like I originally (way back yesterday) planned on doing. Wish you did not have to wait so long for your second Travel power to kick in.

Following are the three Builds, revamped with your suggestions. Note that all now either have Dex as a minor or Primary, allowing for better Critical and Dodge.

The following three Builds all involve several common concepts.

    Dual personality; Aggressive & Defensive.
    • Aggressive = Ranged DPS Role + Electric Form Passive + Concentration Toggle
    • Defensive = Hybrid Role + Regeneration Passive + Concentration Toggle

New(er) List of Attacks (and Specials):
(Each of these brings something different from the others)
    • Electric Bolt: Energy Builder/Negative Ion/50 Foot
    • Lightning Arc: Single Target/Maintain/Negative Ion/100 Foot
    • Thunder Strike: Ranged Sphere AOE/Charged/Negative Ion/100 Foot
    • Lightning Storm: Ranged Sphere AOE/Maintain/Knock Down/50 Foot
    • Gigabolt: Cylinder AOE/Charged/Negative Ion/100 Foot
    • Palliate: Ranged Heal/Threat Wipe/100 Foot

And now for the Builds themselves:

And those are my three versions of AC/DC

First (Ego Primary) is heavy on the ranged damage (from the high Ego), and also carries a big Critical Rating.

Second (End Primary) is a real powerhouse, with all the energy you might need.

Third (Dex Primary) really brings the Critical and Dodge into the game.

Now to decide... Decisions, decisions, decisions...

Well, the main reason to get Dex PSS is for Deadly Aim, Expose Weakness, and possibly Dex Mastery (latter means ya dun need to gear for crit severity). The problem w/ the dodge/avoid options in Dex PSS is that ur giving up the best dps options in the main tree for them, and then there's better trees for overall survival than Dex PSS.

End PSS is good for getting much more energy regen, but it also may be excessive here. If ya dun need the extra energy gains, then most of the other PSS trees would overall fare better. Ego PSS does have Insight to help reduce energy costs, and Int PSS means ur innately reducing energy costs w/ stacking Int. Con PSS (for group tanks- meaning you want to hold aggro- which may not apply to any build here) has Fuel My Fire as well.

So I'd still say that EGO/Con/End or INT/Con/End would be best here for a mix of dps, energy, and survival. End PSS taken only if ur really struggling w/ energy using those other options, and DEX/Int_Ego/End only if ya wanna make a pure glass cannon build that focuses on dps (taking Expose Weakness and Deadly Aim- not dodge/avoid).

The main reason I'd go with Ego primary is the defense bonus. Regen itself does not add much resistance, and without a significant resistance regeneration will not be able to keep you alive all that well.

I would probably go with EGO/CON/REC.

On the specs, I would recommend 3 points in Follow Through, and only 2 in Sixth Sense. Follow Through scales much faster than Sixth Sense, and you'll be stacking a decent bit of EGO to fuel Concentration.

I would prioritize Focused Strikes over Mass Destruction or Offensive Expertise, since a minor damage boost tends to become most important when you're battling a single health-stacked boss.

I'd probably opt for a couple points in Find The Mark instead of Locus and/or Fortified Gear, but that could be considered personal preference.

I tend to prefer Lightning Storm's Rank 3 damage over Stolen Thunder; but that could also be chalked up to personal preference.

Even with Regeneration as a fallback, I find it helpful to have a reliable self-heal to patch up minor damage-over-time. I would shoehorn Conviction into the build, probably replacing Electric Sheath (unless the Sheath is important thematically).

I tend to prefer Ball Lightning (with Triplicity) over Thunderstrike. Thunderstrike has a weird bug where, if used on an enemy that already has Negative Ions, it will sometimes refresh-then-consume the status (instead of the other way around).
