Soldier based ranged/crit build, asking for reviews and opinions

I'm back again. This time I went with the tech tree (mostly). Basically started with the Soldier AT and then started to ply around a little ( OK, a lot).

As I said in the title this is a ranged critical based build, so I included both Ego and Dexterity in the Super Stats. Added Constitution as the other Secondary SS for the survivability factor. I also emphasized Endurance to get the added energy.

The base stats after Talents are:
  • Ego: 25
  • Dex: 23
  • Con: 25
  • End: 25
  • Other: 5
  • Critical chance: +4% plus (Dex & Con?)
  • Critical severity: +29% plus (Ego?)

The Non-Munitions Powers that I chose are:
  • Conviction (self heal)
  • Force Shield (block that lingers and converts some damage into energy)
  • Masterful Dodge (Active Defense increases Dodge & Avoidance)
  • Rebirth (Self Resurrection)

The Specializations I chose were for Critical chance & severity, or:
  • Force of Will (increases Defense)
  • Insight (reduces cost of ranged powers)
  • Aggressive Stance & The Best Defense (increases both Offense & Defense)
  • Fortified Gear (increases Defense)
  • Ego Mastery (increases both Dex & Con by 20 points)

Travel:
  • Flight (vertical movement)
  • Super Speed (better in combat speed)

So without further ado, I present the "Chosen Survivor".

Ranking up most toggles is usually a waste, since they max at 8 stacks, and its rel easy to stack them under the right conditions. Ya can move those points in Concentration over to something else.

Rest of the build is fine, if a bit standard for Muni. I don't find Smoke Grenade to be great for aggro control, though. If ya want a threat wipe, I'd stick w/ Evasive Maneuvers w/ SoM or Palliate w/ Absolve. Ego Surge w/ NM would also add more dps than Lock N Load, though I can understand using LnL for the concept- and its okay as is.

    Thanks again flowcyto!

I made a couple of changes based on your advice.

A special thanks for the nudge regarding Palliate (Absolve). Absolve was the effect I was looking for.

I should mention that it has only two single target attacks, but one is your go to (Assault Rifle) and the other is your energy builder (Steady Shot).
It also has three Area of Effect attacks, two of which are 100' range!

So here is the current version (1.1):

Don't know how you plan to gear at 40, but I recommend 400 ego. With Concentration + Killer Instinct, you should be getting around 110 energy every 4 seconds. That's what I did with my soldier and I can stay at 100ft, never running out of energy. That kind of range gives you a huge advantage. Enemy AI is dumb.

Something else to consider is using the gear that gives offense instead of chance / severity and then taking all of the specs that increase offense from gear. The down side is that you'll have less severity, but you should be able to make up for the loss on gear in the spec trees. Aggression instead of Force of Will and Moded gear instead of focus strike. If you can still keep around 100% severity, I would drop Ruthless for Locus with Gat Gun spam.

    Thank you sterga.

This is the build after taking your suggestions to heart.

Question: Are critical chance items common, rare, extremely rare, or non-existant?

Finally, I made the choice of dropping Find the Mark to add Locus.

PS: I had forgot that Locus is based on per strike, not per shot. Makes the 30 stacks go from once every 30 or 40 seconds down to every 10 or 15 seconds.

The base stats after Talents are:
    • Ego: 25
    • Dex: 23
    • Con: 25
    • End: 25
    • Other: 5

The Non-Munitions Powers that I chose are: Edit: this section is out of date
    • Palliate (heal and removes treat)
    • Ego Surge (active offense that boosts your critical chance)
    • Force Shield (block that lingers and converts some damage into energy)
    • Masterful Dodge (active defense increases Dodge & Avoidance)
    • Rebirth (self resurrection)

The Specializations I chose were for Critical chance & severity, or:
    • Force of Will (increases Defense) Edit: Changed for Aggression (increase offense from items)
    • Insight (reduces cost of ranged powers)
    • Aggressive Stance & The Best Defense (increases both Offense & Defense)
    • Dropped Focused strikes for Modified Gear (increases offense from items)
    • Fortified Gear (increases Defense)
    • Ego Mastery (increases both Dex & Con by 20 points)

    Travel:
    • Flight (vertical movement)
    • Super Speed (better in combat speed)

I prob would keep Force of Will over Aggression. 20% Offense rating only from items isn't much compared to the offense and defense ya get from the Guardicator 'loop', and Force of Will means better defense for you anyways. I don't consider the 10%/pt 'offense on items' spec choices to be that compelling in general- unless ur using the full-set Justice offense bonus, which I think those specs account for.

Locus I'm less sure of; it depends how often ur using Gatling and Rocket over AR. Full AR channels would be ur best boss killer in terms of dps, and it won't be stacking Locus at all. Find the Mark works on all ur powers, though, and is easier to build up w/ maintains.

Aggression depends on the gear. If you have offense based gear instead of crit chance / severity, then it's surprisingly not-crappy with 'ardicator. Hanging out at 100ft means you can skimp on defense since AI is dumb. Locus is for gat gun spam. If you don't plan on gat gun spam or will loose too much severity, then no, don't take it. That's why I prefaced that paragraph with "consider". I don't want anyone to blindly follow my suggestions, I want them to know their options so they can decide for themselves.
