I'm back! And so is my Re-Demon-ed

The concept is a Demon trying for redemption (Inferno with some heals/defense). Heavy ranged AoE with concentration on critical hit/damage.

Any thoughts or just plain help as always is appreciated.

Problems first: No long range, all of the attacks are 50 feet or less. No melee/point blank attack. Only a few attacks, including the energy builder and Snake there are only five attacks. Mix of Elemental (8), Tech (3), and Magic (3) makes this one confused build.

On the plus side: Lots of self buffs; offense (3), defense (2), and even two heals (1 self heal) (one area heal/self resurrection).

The problems next: Divine Renewal just does not fit this build very well, but what to put in if I take that out? Fits the theme, sort of, but... Also the damage is one directional, there is only fire. No crushing or energy or terror... Hey, that might fix both problems. (I Looked and could not find anything I really liked.)

Talents were taken to boost the Super stats and Intelligence.

Specializations were taken to work in sync with each other. Each either adds to critical chance, critical damage, or boosts your range damage somehow.

Last minute thoughts: Maybe use the Talents to boost Con (instead of Int)? Or go for more Dex?

    I'm a bit confused what types of powers ur going for here. I mean, at the core its just a Fire build, and its mostly fine there too. Did you want melee attacks? Did ya want Tech or Sorcery attacks? Did ya want to be able to heal or res allies? Did ya want to tank more, or stay focused on heavy dps?

    The only long-range Fire attack is Firestrike, and its not very good. I'd also rank up Firesnake here; if ya want to free some adv points ya can always trade Unbreakable for R1 Masterful Dodge for ur AD, or take ranks form the block or Immolation.

    I'd also trade Dex SS for Con SS, so ur not as low-health. Can also trade Immolation for Ego Surge w/ NM then too.

    The powers concept is fire ranged AoE attack, with some self heal, and a lot better defense than Inferno (none).

    The note I made about lack of melee should be more of "lack of point blank". Had thought about Pyre or force eruption (knock back) to keep the mobs off me.

    The note regarding long range attack was just that the ranged builds I've used before have all had one long range attack that could be used to "taunt" the enemies.

    As for healing I definitely want a self heal. The concept for using the Circle of Radiant Glory was for the Demon (magic) side of the theme. Might go for something else, just like with Divine Renewal.

    Super stats I wanted Dex for the critical chance bonus on this build. Con is getting to be overly used (it is on nearly 4 out 5 non-tank builds), especially for what is a ranged build.
    But I do agree that some sort of Con boost is needed, so I will be swapping the Talents around to do just that (base line 25 Con from Talents only).

    And I'm back.

    Swapped the Talents to focus on Dexterity, with a side of (almost) everything else. Made Constitution a Super Stat (just like I told myself I wouldn't...).

    Changed some of the powers, to better fit the theme. Still only one damage type (not counting the possible damage from Force Eruption). Went for the Force powers mostly for the knock back from FE. I know about the attack limits with Unstoppable (now), and that was the main reason for the change. Also giving some hard thought to your suggestion of Masterful Dodge, but not to certain about the dodge/avoid mechanics.

    Edit: Had to remove this before I embarrassed myself further. See my next post for the proper build.​​

    Newbie question of the day: Immolation and Fiery Form. Both increase my damage and both count as forms. Now since you can only have one form active at a time, does that mean that I am trading one bonus for another? And is the difference that much that it matters? Or do these two stack?

    Next Newbie QoD: Ego Surge. Does it boost Elemental damage? Or with this build would it be just for the critical chance boost?

    And even more QoD: Dex and critical chance. How far does Critical chance go before it hits the diminishing returns? And what critical chance is that? (percentage wise) And how does Dex figure into that mechanic?

    'Forms' usually refers to a specific type of power- in this case a toggle power that usually gives ya a stacking buff, and they are usually called 'toggles' around here. There's only a few of these and most of them operate similarly: Concentration, FotTempest, Enrage, Manipulator, IDF, etc. For any of these, ya can only be affected by one form's buff at a time (though ya can have one stack of another toggle's buff in tandem- ex. 8 stacks of Focus w/ 1 stack of Enrage- if ya go above one stack of the 2nd buff, it'll cancel that extra buff entirely).

    Active Offenses like Immolation are not 'forms', so they can stack w/ those bonuses; same w/ Slotted Passives like Fiery Form, as they are in a class of their own (similarly, ya can only have one Passive slotted at a time). "Form" in the name of Fiery From is just part of its name and doesn't mean its a toggle.

    Do note that passive damage bonuses from things like toggles, passives, and AOs diminish pretty harshly as ya stack more. Ex: For a geared lvl 40 dps FF, a +50% passive dmg bonus can only result in only a ~8-10% final dmg increase. Most dmg bonuses are in the passive/earliest layer, though a few aren't: like normal power ranks (20% dmg_heal per rank), role bonuses (ex. Brawler's 25% boost to melee attacks), Offense, and crit severity.

    Ego Surge gives a general passive dmg boost, a boost to ur Ego stat, and w/ Nimble Mind gives flat crit% boost that scales w/ Con as a stat. The last interaction is the most important, as the NM + Con scaling is very good, and the flat crit% is powerful as its not diminished by anything; its how high-Con builds can get a high crit rate at least temporarily. NM makes Ego Surge the best AO for dps by far, at least when combined w/ Con gearing. Other decent AO's for dps (distant 2nd place) are Imbue, Ice Sheath, and Lock N Load. Aggressor is alright for Enrage-using builds to get a burst of Enraged stacks, and Ascension is good not for its dmg boost but for the healing and temp flight (unique among AOs).

    The DR on critR/Dex is a normal decay function, iirc, so it effectively diminishes immediately, and gradually. From Jimshua's testing, the curve is like this:

    Crit % = 52/(1 + (0.005*[Crit rating + DEX value])^(-0.851))

    As for the latest build:
    I wouldn't take Field Surge on builds not using Personal Force Field (PFF) as the passive; the shield ya get from FS is rather weak. Any of the other ADs would be better here- namely Masterful Dodge (keep it at rank1), or Unbreakable (which is better at R2-3), though Resurgence is okay for dps builds using Con SS.

    R1 Force Eruption is kinda a 'meh' power here. If ya want a close-range knock away, ya can try Expulse, Energy Wave, or Pillar of Poz, and see if they fit better. Pyre can also be close-range and CCs w/ its special adv, and fits better w/ a Fire build like this (full charges leave a Flashfire patch that can work w/ Thermal Reverb).

    Otherwise the build is mostly alright.

    Forms: Was tricked by the guides and descriptions I have found regarding Fiery form, Immolation, and Ego Surge. They all (more or less) stated "Slotted Offensive Passive - Energy Form" or "Active Offense - Energy Form". It was the "Energy Form" in the title of all three that had me confused. But if FF can sync with them than really like this idea.

    I added the Ego Surge & Nimble Mind active offense. With this change I also made Con a super stat, to boost the critical chance.

    Replaced all of the all of Force powers. Active Defense I went with Masterful Dodge (thanks for the dodge mechanics), and for close crowd control I went for Pyre & Backdraft.

    "Energy Form" is a specific flag on some powers. That's because there are a couple of powers that can cancel an "Energy Form". One example I can think of is Scarn's Bane.​​

    yea, Force Cascade use is another EF-cancelling power, using Energy Forms to cut its energy cost in half in return (and it puts a debuff on ya that prevents ya from gaining any energy forms for a short while- unfortunately that debuff seems to be bugged to be refreshed by other actions on combat).

    The build is looking better- though its more or less a fully-fledged Fire build now. I'd prob move R3 of Immolation to R2 of Pyre, and maybe trade R3 of Firesnake for Trail Blazer if ur staying at range (though either option is fine).

    kallethen: Wish there was a better wiki for this game. The only wiki's I have found are from back in 2011 & 2012. CO has so much inside, from character, build, interactions... But no central reference that is either complete or up to date. How about the dev's make their "bible" available to some of the forum/game players to convert into an up to date wiki.

    flowcyto: I had the same thought about the "fully fire" build. Thus this is going into the circle file for the time being.
