There's now a timer on post edits?

OK, who on the back end thought that was a smart idea? The various bug threads in the bug report forums that I and several other prominent posters require that we be able to edit to remove or update the posts as new bugs are found or old bugs are removed. And that's a for instance. Why was a limited timer put on post editing?

That's a bad idea for lots of reasons. Sometimes you're trying to keep a current list of bugs, like the Shewolf up there, and need to update because a bug has been fixed (or a new one found, or even more often both). Sometimes you're writing fanfic (there's an active community of writers on the STO forums) and want to go in and edit a story. (Hawku ran into this issue when he realized he'd left out a couple of paragraphs from his latest crackfic, and was unable to edit it.) Sometimes there's just some typo or grammatical error that you didn't notice at first, but then you see it and it starts to really bug you, only if the timer's expired now you can't fix it.

First the new post length limitations, now this. Are y'all trying to drive people to alternative forums?

Edit: And now you've even screwed up the old BBcode. Good job.

I don't see what the problem is. I can still edit posts.

:p Just kidding, I think it's a pretty bad idea. I'm sure someone had a reason for it, but I'd like to hear what that is.

In the meantime, you could bug the moderators to make changes to your various posts.

Yea. I tend to edit a post over a period of time as I think of things to add to said post, constantly re-read and realize some grammatical error needs to be fixed, or I decide something I said was a bit too harsh (even if the people I was stating it about deserve harsher).

Needless to say, I don't like this, not one bit.

I am still trying to imagine what this change was for. Not to mention my custom title is gone, I can't use my tampermonkey script anymore (even updated it) and the backend has even less on it than before. I don't get this anymore.

Not to mention pinging mods to edit my posts I bet will get old fast.

because the forums have been 'fixed'
for those who haven't yet. go to the Forum rules thread at the top, by PWlaughingtrendy and read through all the things you are not allowed to do.
That will give you an idea.

Because they've decided to go with Simple HTML instead. Which, other than being a surprise, is probably an upgrade from bbcode (this is not always a feature, of course).

so now the forum enhancer has to be swapped to html, so that the line of buttons for text adjusting works.

For a while, we'd gotten the text limit raised to 24k characters, which sounds like a lot until you start reading the latest chapter of, say, the Masterverse saga on the STO forums. Now it's 8k - even the really short stories start to run up against the limit.

The total signature size must be no larger than 650x250 pixels if it contains an image. The text in the signature may be customized in use on the forums.

Maybe you and chaelk could both comply with the above rule.

Remember, everyone - Cryptic had absolutely nothing to do with this. This is all PWE's fault.

It's very very clear they don't have the slightest idea how to properly run a forum (heck - they CLONED the forums with this latest 'upgrade' due to their incompetence) and their constant changing of things on a moment's notice while the forums WERE RUNNING (like going from BBCode to SimpleHTML with a flip of a switch, but ONLY for your sig - everything else is still BBCode) continues to show this.

You know a forum is bad when you have to go get a Greasemonkey script to give back some of the features we used to have and to make the place a tad more readable and usable.

Mhm. I was using another person's sigpic as an example to figure out why I merited the individual callout. You toss a rule my way to add to the dogpile. How about we share "never directly addressing each other again."

The person who originally commented on your sigpic said why. It was because your sigpic was "..at least twice as big as it should be and the width is breaking the forum at the screen scale..". The person's sigpic that you called out wasn't. But you have changed yours now so that's great.

I'll address who I like, Mr. Mod ;)

But to get back to the original topic, this needs to change. The no time limit edit function was only ever a good thing for these forums. For example to cleanly keep track of bug lists, unlockable costume parts lists, lists of builds, and for those who hate to see spelling mistakes in something they typed over an hour ago.

On my computer your sig looked fine. On my iPad, it was gigantic, breaking through the right margin of the forum. It was pretty obnoxious, and my guess is that you're probably using a browser that doesn't show you the obnoxious version (as I am) and others might be using a browser that does show the gigantic one.

I didn't look too far into it to try and figure out what the problem was, but I appreciate you switching the image.

What in the world...I have seen some anal stuff in my life but this is up there...its just up there.

Its story time kiddos lets read some PWE Forum TOS rules.

I guess I might have broke this one myself by quoting you >_>"

Report violations, do not quote them or reply to them. Responding to a violation in an inflammatory manner is a violation in itself and will result in appropriate action. It is also important to not abuse the Ticket system by excessively reporting posts, sending false alarms, or nonsensical messages. Abuse of the Ticket system can result in an infraction for spamming.

This ones my fave though :D

    Impersonating a PWE Employee
You may not create posts and/or private messages that allude to and/or contain language, comments, references, links, symbols, terms and/or imagery that, in any manner whether directly or indirectly, attempt to impersonate a PWE employee.

Next thing to fix: some threads use bbcode, some threads use simple html (probably based on thread creation time). Simple Html seems more featured and an upgrade, but it would be nice to do some conversion so all threads use the same markup rules.
