Compared to the awesome which is the illustration in Book of the Destroyer.
Not posting the image for worry of violating the copyright warnings listed at the start of the book, but if you have the book go look and see how much better it is.
No disrespect intended, but honestly, to me the two renditions look very similar. Not identical, but I wouldn't call the differences a major detriment to either iteration.
I'm looking at the Black Talon illo from Book Of The Destroyer p. 111, and again, to me that and the above look very similar. The BOTD rendition is a little sleeker, and the weapon modules are somewhat different. But I consider them minor variations on the same concept. If I saw them both in-game I'd probably assume they're two different models. The BOTD write-up for the BT notes that Dr. Destroyer does create various modified designs.
"If you were to add", except they did not add panels.
Therefore it has open cockpit and Cryptic version has enclosed cockpit.
What might be isn't an argument. Plain and simple.
The version you prefer looks pretty because the artist put more polish on it.
Otherwise it has very short, stubby arms with definitely not believable joints. It also has very restricted joints in ankles and looks terribly top-heavy. On top of that, Cryptic's version has functional hand, which is also a plus on a humanoid platform.
Nope, it does not look better.
It's only drawn by better artist, but ingame it would look very poorly and there would be also difficulties with animations (too stubby limbs, can't use the same animations as other humanods).
Cryptic did better.
About the only gripe with Cryptic's design is their insistence on these skeletal robotic limbs.
I did like the 5th edition Art...i kinda wonder if we'll see some Destroyer soldiers ever though. and the 6th/CO Version of the Talon does look a lot cooler.
5th ed looks like Buck Rogers. 6th ed/CO looks like an '80s after-school cartoon. De gustibus non est disputandum.
See, now if I were working on CO2/7th ed, I'd probably go more cyberpunk, and draw on designs like the androids in Elysium or the mechs in the Keloid short for influence. That style is pretty much the opposite pole from that 5th ed drawing, and it seems like the sort of intimidating brutalism that Dr. Destroyer would go for.
Choose your enemies carefully, because they will define you / Make them interesting, because in some ways they will mind you
They're not there in the beginning, but when your story ends / Gonna last with you longer than your friends

While the version in Champions Online has more visible armor at the back and top of the pilot, it looks like it has a big open space in the upper front, leaving the pilot more vulnerable to attacks from that angle than the Fifth Edition version, which has only the pilot's head above the top of the Black Talon... if neither of these vehicles had any kind of armored crystal covering their openings. Since that wouldn't make much sense -- and since such a transparent covering wouldn't be visible in either illustration -- it would be reasonable to assume they both have them.

Not really.
If you look at this illustration from Champions Villains, male Black Talon is supposed to have a glass-like panel covering the pilot's face. The reflection on ints surface is quite visible on the pilot's face.
Ingame version has no glass panel. Which looks quite ******** and more like an oversight or a bug - the costume part used for Black Talon's dome is the same as used for deep sea diver Buzz giving quests in Lemuria, and he has transparent covering in his helmet...
Female Black Talon model uses transparent dome over its head.
Looks like male Black Talon costume is bugged (would not be very surprising...).
As for drawing glass... It isn't very hard to draw visible reflections on it even if you have only black and grayscales.
I'd like to point out both "crooks conquerers and killers" and book of destroyer mentioned that Dr. Destroyer often revisits the black talon armor for modification and retooling. Most likely the in-game model is the result of the good doctor asking himself "How do I fit this into the character creation tool".
While I can see more detail in the newer one, I have to agree the weird skeleton joints are silly and as retro as it is, the older version felt more like a full on tank then a suit of power armor, which to me was always a big plus.

Because that's the main thing that makes CO Black Talon looking kinda fragile.

But that's just IMHO.
However, in Champions Online, the armor suit is clearly stated to be Black Talon Mk II.
And who is anyone to question the great and powerful Destroyer?
While they both look good, I do prefer the CO version.

Champions Villains: Master Villains has drawing of our ingame version as the Black Talon suit.
Also... This 5th ed version looks like it had open cockpit. Bad idea.
Cryptic verion looks like an improvement. More detailed as well.

Also, 6th ed Champions Villains pic:
5th ed one is just outdated. *shrugs*
