I was reading about
Jack Parsons today and it struck me how much he was a model of Mr. Fantastic with his rocket engineering, Tony Stark with his look and project management and Dr. Strange with his occult ritualism and he was actually born with the first name Marvel.
This guy is something else.
Long story short, he was a rocket scientist who got involved with 20th century occultist Aleister Crowley and then founded the
Jet Propulsion Laboratory and then got involved with trying to summon a "moonchild" from another dimeonsion with L. Ron Hubbard who then fleeced him for every dollar he had. Then he was blacklisted from working in rocket science by the House Committee on Un-American Activities for espionage. Then he blew himself up, or was blown up by someone in his laboratory, maybe becoming The Shadow, or The Hulk or the just dead.
Here's an excerpt from
Strange Magazine about him.
Ridley Scott is making a mini-series about him.
I really have to wonder if Stan Lee or Jack Kirby ran across this guy or stories about him and pulled some inspiration from it. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but Sub Mariner was Reed Richard's nemesis trying to get in Sue's blue suit and L. Ron Hubbard escaped to the sea with Jack's money, yachts and woman. Sounds fishy to me.
I thought you'd like to hear about this real world sci-fi sorcery kind of guy who had his own evil nemesis that created a dangerous cult. It's like something out of an comic book or RP bio, but its real.

Everyone else in that day and age had, after all....
Did someone make that mock-up with a bunch of old leftover Colorforms?
