I like the April Foxbat event

So I feel we don't do this enough over here on the CO forums: give some positive feedback. So here's a thread devoted to what I like about the lasted event.

I like the costume parts, I like the devices, and I like the new 28 slot bag. I like that the foxbat IOU finally has a purpose. I'm slightly less thrilled about more lockboxes but if this is a business model that's working for them I'll happily accept that if we also get items that we can unlock though playing. Thumbs up for this event thus far, if we also get some of the other events that were over on the PTS I'll be even happier.

Only thing making me sad is, Foxbag is Unique so we can get only one for each toon. o3o

Well perhaps we might see more unique bags in the future? I know there's a Clarance bag, it's worse then the ones you can buy but it looks kind of cool, and then there's the veteran reward bag. The Foxbat bag is bigger then all of them. I would love to see more of these unique bags.

I grew tired huntin Foxbats after #65.
And did the daily once per most of my character.
So now i have about 120 Foxbat Credits per alt.
Good thing i have spare Bank Slots to store the creds in.
For to use them in the future.

The Con is cool, the Stuff is great. Just the lack of interacting on the Event makes it 'Meh'.

Well I've unlocked all the costumes and am now working on getting the foxbat bag for all my toons. While I do agree it can be repetitive I'd just like to point out this is Champions Online, every time you make a new toon you need to do the same missions till you hit level 10. Content getting repetitive is a given.

I happen to like the scavenger hunt though. I managed to find all the foxbats in the west side and I've started working on the city center.

Those foxbat credits might be bound per character though, not sure, but regardless I like how the rewards are set up. There doesn't appear to be a chaser item in the swag bags (like the permanent snowball in the stockings) but everything rare can be bought. Seems foxbat credit has a value so you can sell any left over after the event closes. I hope future events are set up this way.

I like the idea of the convention, but not that much to do. I've gone to VB for random slaughtering of NPCs. I'm sure my guild is happy with all the random costume bits I've dumped in the bank from it.

The biggest disappointment is that Cred isn't account bound and trouts aren't for HWs.

I'll try to keep this as balanced as possible but the chips fall where the chips fall.

    Pros:
-People asked for the return of the April Fools Day Event. CN not only did this...they expanded upon it.
-Cryptic has been notorious for being unable to comprehend the concept of 'Useless Fluff Devices." Cryptic North has been shown more to "get it."
-The Skyfox is one of the very few vehicles in CO which looks like a vehicle that belongs in CO.
-The new perk is amusing in it's cheesiness.
-CN gave the IOU, which has been ingame since beta, a purpose.
-Foxbat doesn't use the stage to sing.
-Zone population is up and I am seeing people I have not seen(for better or worse) in ages.
    -There's a new bag.
-This event is long enough to be able to accomplish a large amount of the goals(maybe not all of them, but that depends on how much time you wish to sink into it).
-When the devs were made aware that the old April Fools' Day Foxbat AF was unobtainable they put it on the vendor at the last minute. That's just nice, IMO, even though I already had it.
-Finally, I hope, there's an April Fools Day event which, I also hope, fixes the MC map when it's over. Perhaps this will put an end to the newbie a day asking what the random faces are all over the map because 1) there is a recent event to explain it and 2) hopefully it will all go away properly when it's over until next year.
-The rush of people buying keys and selling lockbox items has lead to an increase to ingame commerce. It's a feeding frenzy on the AH and in Zone.

    Cons:
-Cryptic owns the IP For Champions yet what many who are familiar with the PnP would consider the 'obvious choices" for Foxbats didn't make it into the event.
-Creds are not account bound and rewards come in bizarre number combinations.
-The Foam Finger Aura is a costume unlock we already had on the wrong hand that isn't an aura. What's worse is that the NPCs actually mock this point instead of someone taking the time to repair the issue.
-The Skyfox should have come in brown/yellow with a variant available in the current black scheme.
-For some odd reason not all of the old perks work this time around.
-The new bag has more slots than the Vet Bag. IMO, the Vet Bag should have it's slots increased to 30(since there is enough open space on the box to do so).
-I do wish the vendor items were all BoE on the second copy then people who wanted to could farm additional items for friends who miss the event or to sell. IMO, some people will go the extra distance for the potential cash and some people aren't that interested in doing so the 1st time but have globals sitting around.

Off the top of my head, this is how I see the event. Over the course of the last year I've been playing CO, NW, and STO just to have enough content between the 3 games to occupy my free time. STO has been getting alot of stuff, as usual, and NW has been copying a decent portion of that from STO. It's nice to be be in STO/NW and tell friends there that you're heading over to CO because there's something new to do. There's an event running in CO. Despite playing the other two games CO is my main MMO. If given the chance this is where I want to spend the lionshare of my time playing. That and, for purely humorous reasons, I've made "Foxbat Inspired" costumes for over a dozen toons already...and others are doing so as well. I see the RPers in the Ren Center RPing. I see the PvPer/Duelists over near the kiosk having fun. There are newbies crowding around Witchcraft and asking questions about how to play. The PvEers are out hunting Foxbat Cosplayers. There are more CCs in the Theatre than usual. Overall, love it or hate it...this event is making things happen.

I like it, but why, WHY did they make Costume Collector worth two perk points instead of five or even zero? It's driving me nuts in my perks window knowing I can't get the number to end in 5 or 0 again. Nope, now it's an ugly two or seven.

Edit: Seems my frustration was preemptively misplaced, since the Real Foxbat mission gives 8 points. Whew.

I had been holding onto this knowing it would come in useful one day. Thanks a bunch to the Devs for the extra 100 Foxbat cred.

This is awesome! I love the AFs and am very thankful to have the chance to add this one to my list.

I had said thank you to the CO team on another thread, but they deserve to have it said again. Thank you.

They should have made the Foxbat Fool AF auto unlock when you found all the Foxbats. Something to work towards.

Oh well. At least I got all the perks on one of my toons from the first time the event was up.

I'm glad that this event is bringing in the players that all those other previous events should have. But that's because this event is making us do things in ZONE. Not just any zone. Every open zone in the game!

Technically, the low-level repetitiveness is because this is not Champions Online, it's CO: Gone Down The Alert Train. Low levels used to be tons better before it was all "you must do the tutorial on every dan character and then bore yourself to death in Westside"...

That aside, i agree the repetitiveness is the one big downer about the FoxbatCon event. Doing the same hunt over and over again is repetitive in a tediously boring way, because it's simply covering distance for the sake of covering distance. Compared to this, the Forum Malvanum ring race was brilliantly entertaining because at least it was interesting to see how fast you can go with different powers/vehicles.

I think it would've been more interesting to have Biselle say "we spotted what could be Foxbat", randomly mark 10 Foxbat locations on the map, and thus turn it into more of a "sightseeing" mission (because people would travel routes they would not normally use (the silly Forum Malvanum ring race had me find out a fun detail or two by doing pretty much that).

That aside, FoxbatCon is a very good event. It's absolutely novel to not have to suspend disbelief about the city getting half wiped off the map one day only to be perfectly fine the next (cf. Lemurian Invasion, Blöod Moon, etc.). We could use more of those. Well that, or events that actually permanetly change stuff.

I absolutely love this little event. I know it's not a big deal, but it changes the atmosphere of CO. And it's not just because it's a seasonal limited-time event. It's because it brings the city to life. I'll just recount my most memorable experiences:

Julie Morgan Interviewing Kinetik - she wants her story about FoxbatCon so she can pack up and go home, Kinetik wants air time to tell his thing. If you ever were interviewed, this is so true. Just keep telling your message and keep smiling.

The Merchandise Booth - That booth just makes whatever they offered so attractive to me.

Swag Bags - In their little plastic bags, it's like real loot. It doesn't matter what it is, it's swag! I love this idea of how if you beat up someone, you can take their swag, 'cos it's swag! If real life conventions were like this, I'd go.

The Comic/DVD/Fish & Chips Shop - we finally can shop! And the item's descs were funny!

Foxbat At Home - He just wants to read his comics and watch his cartoons. I can so relate.

Foxbat Hunt - I just did a RP of this with a friend who's been off CO a long time. She's a feral character and I RP'd like I could detect roughly where they were, but needed her to really find them, that was a spot of fun.

Any game can make limited time seasonal events, but this one was about -this- world. The convention is just the tip of the iceberg, hinting at the subtext with the 60s show, the 90s film, possible future films. It enriched that world.

And my secret? I don't even like Foxbat. But I liked the fans and the subculture and life.

That account-bound issue is still there, but Trouts -are- now available to Heavy Weapons.

They just fixed it. I showed it to Brou and he was like, "This makes me happy." Too right.

These things really made the world come alive for me as well, especially the Julie Morgan bit. One of the massive problems for me is the lack of reuse of NPCs, Julie was well introduced early in the game but until this even I can't recall ever seeing her again. It seems like such a waste of development as NPCs for the most part only exist to give missions and don't seem to live outside of that limited role. It was great seeing them talking and interacting outside of the limited role they're usually relegated to.

Another thing I liked was the mission for Defender. So very very simple and basic, but it gave me a smile, and for the first time ever . . . I kind of felt a bit of interest in Defender. Suddenly he seemed a tiny bit human.
