Technical issue or sign of hacking?

My brother was having repeated problems with signing in, seemingly following launcher updates, having his password not be accepted and having to regularly reset his password in order to sign in. He was concerned he was being hacked. Then when sending a reply to the initial ticket response he used a swear word in an expression of his frustration at finding this occurred with NW as well as CO and has been banned for that. However after being banned and far away from home in another state for days (visiting me), a password reset email was sent to him, reading it upon getting home we thought this might mean the ban was a temp-ban and was now over yet after following through with this he was still banned. The crucial point is that he didn't request this password change!

So was this password reset email from some sort of technical problem with his account or sign that the problem all along was from being hacked?

certainly seems a bit suspicious that he's constantly had to update his password and then to see a random password reset email. I would certainly be wary and would be running a full virus/male ware scan on the computer(s) he uses just encase.

Also banned for a swear word seems a bit extreme and certainly not all that great customer service if they cant recognise that it was a used in frustration at reoccurring potentially worrying technical issue.

    ok

    1. change password because that may have been a phishing letter too.
    2. if possible change his email attached to that account, or check the security on his emails.
    3. make damn sure account guard is on and only HIS computer is listed as allowed to log on.
    4. run the full scan. check all security settings.
