So, Dr. Destroyer has sent his Destroids to Millenium City!
*Yawn*
Yep, Dr. Destroyer's evil plan is to send his robotic army to the city where they will commit the terrifying and diabolical crime of... loitering.
Come on guys, how about a little imagination? A little creativity? I've been seeing this kind of "content" for YEARS now, and I always have the same reaction to it. Here's an opportunity to create an event worthy of the name, and THIS is all we get?
City of Heroes had the Rikti beaming in to Paragon City, but they had no PURPOSE. They were beaming in for the sole purpose of being beaten up. At least they did THAT much, they were at least a threat for a few minutes. These Destroids are a joke. They stand around and do NOTHING.
You need to give these kinds of things a little thought. Give the enemies some kind of goal, something the players will WANT to stop them doing. Make it so there is some kind of consequence for failing to stop them. Have a larger plan in mind, as if Dr. Destroyer is actually sending the Destroids to the city as part of some larger scheme, which would be realized in subsequent weeks or months. Make the enemy's goals a little cryptic, so we can try to figure out what is going on, what to do next, and so forth.
I tire of these bland "events" that go nowhere and do nothing and inevitably conclude with a lame battle against a foe that has eleventy billion health and routinely hits heroes for 60 million damage.
Just once, can we use a little imagination and come up with something GOOD?
Once, I was simply called Mojo. Now, I'm forced into a new name, but don't be fooled, I'm the original STO Mojo!
Environmental changes to zone based on events? That's absurd! If they made events back in the first couple years for that very reason we would have it now. But adding stuff like that now years into a game's development is just crazy.
There's nothing but sense when wanting to make a game whose assets already exist keep the interest of all its players by making regular changes that cycle based on events.
It's a perfect scheme to keep heroes busy, while Doc himself continues working behind the scene and preparing something even more diabolical.
Or does it seem there's something a bit off in his 'Speech of Destruction'?
Once in a while the voice resembles Foxbats crazy squeaky voice.
What was the real reason for Foxbat being in Destroyer's Factory? Did he found a new spawnpoint there?
Why does his custardshot tastes like vanilla?
Why there is a lonely scientist walking around in Ren Center, near the Power House Cog?
Why Drifter was replaced by a cyborg?
How many pizzaplaces Darren actually owns?
How excatly Tinfoil Hat stops braincontrol rays?
Why there isn't any females in Monster Islands Manimal village?
Why?

this whole event sucks... "DESTROID INVASION IS NOW LIVE" everyone expecting the mega destroids right away, instead we get this crap of "so these small robots will just loiter for a month and then we finally get the mega destroids when it's supposedly been fixed already"
why not just skip the month and go right to the destroids?
"hey guys, to celebrate the 4th anniversary, let's have all this stuff.. and then finish it off a month later with a large gap of nothing inbetween to bore you while waiting."
It's a perfect scheme to keep heroes busy, while Doc himself continues working behind the scene and preparing something even more diabolical.
"I will begin my invasion and the next step will be my ultimate plan!"
One year has passed.
"Oh um...send more destroids to invade Millennium City. I'm sure they won't remember my boasting about the ultimate plan," he says as he hides a certain Federation badge.
The small robots provide a 2000Q per character reward that isn't grinding Kevin Poe.
Its something for the very lazy 40s to do between smash alerts.
I like how the Destroid voice only annoys people who loiter in Ren Cen of course as funny as that is, its actually ruining the game experience for players even more than the horrendous background music.

Would you rather hear Sapphire's concert...? Yeah at least it had filling. Would be nice if they had mobs in the air to attack vehicles with. So much air space and nothing in it.
I think the start of the invasion goes on for far to long lets just get the Big D'ds out I wanna farm them ._.
I like farming big Ds myself - but what does that have to do with playing CO?

Or does it seem there's something a bit off in his 'Speech of Destruction'? He is either tired or it is foxbat.
Once in a while the voice resembles Foxbats crazy squeaky voice. Cause it is Faoxbat duuuuh.
What was the real reason for Foxbat being in Destroyer's Factory? Did he found a new spawnpoint there? So he could take over the factory so he can make action figures of himself. He couldn't get into the Finkle Foundry.
Why does his custardshot tastes like vanilla? Because he sucks at making custard.
Why there is a lonely scientist walking around in Ren Center, near the Power House Cog?
Why Drifter was replaced by a cyborg? because he got tired of standing around, so he built himself a robot lacky so he could go home and catch up on show TV.
How many pizzaplaces Darren actually owns? 2, the others are franchised.
How excatly Tinfoil Hat stops braincontrol rays? Magic.
Why there isn't any females in Monster Islands Manimal village? Because they were all created in a lab, and no females were made so they can't mate. So eventually they will all die off, then we can reclaim Monster Island!
Why? Why ask why?
So, Dr. Destroyer has sent his Destroids to Millenium City!

This. They're named things like "Invasion Destroid", but they're hardly invading. In fact they're just standing about peacefully, minding their own business. Sure, they're frightening the passersby. But it's our unprovoked assaults on them that are the actual crime, and I feel a little guilty about it.
But seriously, I was expecting an invasion. Didn't the first couple of anniversaries involve hostile mega-destroids spawning in RC itself? I wanted something along the lines of dire alerts and the expectation that low level characters without slotted passives would do well to stay out of RC during an alert. Minions behaving themselves until you cross their aggro radius isn't event-worthy.
(Even something as silly as a mega-d spawning who tries to steal the cake and heckle Sapphire, forcing the players to decide whether to defend Sapphire or help the mega-d, would have been an improvement. Especially if doing the latter would have spared us listening to her insipid "songs".)
I'd call it "feast or famine" except there's no feast. Every event is either a periodic giant monster brawl that excludes everyone below level 15 and grants the only real rewards to level 40 DPS builds, or open grinds like this where everyone below level 11 is excluded (despite the fact that the destroids spawn all over Westside, including next to and on top of mission entrances, forcing low level characters to fight them even though they can't get the Drifter mission) and level 40 DPS builds who aren't actually doing the Drifter mission grief the heck out of lower level characters for kicks.
"Peacefully"? Try walking past one, and see how "peaceful" they are...
"Science teaches us to expect -- demand -- more than just eerie mysteries. What use is a puzzle that can't be solved? Patience is fine, but I'm not going to stop asking the universe to make sense!"
This isn't really an invasion. The robots around Ren Center should be doing more then just standing around in their little circle. Have them actually attacking places around the city. Make us care that they are there.
That is the one thing I liked about the zone events from CoX, the invasions were much more active. Had the servers been better optimized those events would have been almost perfect. Everyone could participate and everyone got something out of it at the end.
I absolutely HATED how CoH did their events. Specifically when you make a new character and the mission requirement is replaced with event mobs. So much for completing the first mission out of the tutorial and leveling up. Should have done it before the free weekend before the event started, which was impossible because that was when free weekend was happening.
After I first left the game it became the worst at keeping new players from playing it. The whole mob replacement during the event was a gross oversight, but its appalling when you try to send a service report on a game breaking issue to find out only subscribed players are allowed to make tickets.
Perhaps it IS part of a cunning plan... Imagine this... Dr. Destroyer, being a genius, KNOWS his destroids are no threat to the heroes of Millenium, so he sends them there expecting them to be destroyed.
At the same time, he kidnaps the Drifter, and puts a robot replica there to collect the data chips from the destroyed Destroids. On those chips are detailed analyses of the powers and skills of the heroes that fought them.
Once he has all that data, he reprograms his newest batch of Destroids with mechanisms, weapons and programs specifically designed to be impervious to the heroes he's now analyzed.
Thus, when the next wave starts, it will be Destroids that become impervious to our attacks when we assault them. NOW what will the heroes do?
(I actually used this as a scheme in an old PnP Champions game I used to run)

This is actually very clever. Well played. It is now part of my headcanon.

Yes, how terrible that you had to wait 10-20 minutes until the event moved to other zones for hours.
I spent about an hour the first day on a few of my (many) alts, beating up on the Destroid "invaders". Then I realized that I was insanely bored.
At the very least the Destroids should spawn throughout the city and move towards RenCen. That, at least, would be more of an invasion. Have them shoot at buildings and attack civilians. Stage firefights between them and the MCP. Show them flying around on hoverdisks or something.
Anything other than having them just stand there waiting to get beat up on.
Once again, any content we get is half-assed and/or broken.
The Devs here seem to have this obsession about breaking their stuff up into several parts. I assume to make it seem bigger, but when some of those parts are weak or lame, it actually makes it look worse.
Everything this "Event" is missing, exist in Resistance.
Destroibots marching, tanks rolling, Mega Destroids strolling in the streets.
Instead 2 weeks of listening Doc's "Speech of Destruction" every minute and waking up snoozing bots around Ren Center as a 2000Q daily.
Would have been better to make it last for a week, including the Megas. And switch another in rotation.

I don't understand why buildings are not characters and thus have different costumes
for different states of damage which destroids should be doing.
Oh we have to walk on them. well. then.

I was in-game just now, after having read this. It looks like it's exactly every 5 minutes.
I basically looked at the game clock every time it starts, "CItizens of Detroit, for YEARS..."
It's like at X:59, Y:04, Z:09, etc.
