I'm thinking that this event can be better served with two separate alerts:

"Qualifying Rounds" -- standard 5-man level 30 alert

"Championship Event" -- level 40 alert with Firewing as final boss

I'm just guessing here, but I'm willing to bet that they make more money off of newer accounts with lower level players than they do with us established folks. If they could shift that towards the later levels, by offering C Store items targeted to higher level players, perhaps they could start focusing on the later levels of the game.

Until they figure out a way to get more money out of high-level players than they can get from the churnies, we're likely to see this same trend.

Of course, this is all just guessy-guess work.

Oh I am sure they know what they can do to have higher level people buy something, but they dont have the man power to make it, or they are just to lazy.

Several people have found hundreds of costume pieces that Cryptic could sell in packs. Could even call them the lost costum packs or something. They could sell new travel powers or even power set 9again they would need poeple make it.) I even here more and more people say they would actually pay for an expansion now. (Unlike Vibora which was just too early to charge for based on what we got at launch.)

Personally I would love for them to put out expansion packs that would be important locations in champions, like Hudson City and Destroyer's island.
Each could come with one or two power sets and costume unlocks. For $25(ish), more or less depending on how big they are. Each could have there own areas for different levels, I would make Hudson city 25-35, and Destroyer's island 40 myself. It could be a true endgame map with mobs 40-42 and up.

Hate to say it Jon but thems the breaks.

Jon as usual speaks the real truth

I want to remind the "forumites" you are hardly the majority of the playerbase.
    Casuals are far more important.

Making the event widely accessible was the smart move Cryptic!

    Kudos.

Normally I don't particularly care either way about the level 30 alert thing but... it's Firewing, one of the most powerful characters in the lore, making him level 30 just seems kinda well, disrespectful I guess, to the lore.
Then again we can technically beat on Shadow Destroyer and the Avatars of the Kings of Edom at level 11 in Resistance and Aftershock so...eh whatcha gonna do?

And I'd like to remind you that many of the "forumites", myself included, are super-casual. So no need to vilify any group of people here.

I am in the exact opposite position. By making it level 30 I am likely to never see it. I leveled my characters to 40 as per the design of a level based game.

Wait. You don't have a single level 40? That is very telling.

I can see where your confusion comes from. Gamehobo wasn't commenting on what he quoted; he was continuing it. He WAS talking about Menton - who is level 26, and can be soloed by a single character that isn't even powerful enough to warrant having a Nemesis.

No, I keep coming up with new ideas, and playing with those instead. Happifun Security System X-4 and Spider-Bat have been languishing at 37 as I've played Detroit Iron, and Blackwing, and had my far-too-short time as Gold with Dr. Destiny and Star Knight, and most recently been running around with Hero and 404, and there were a bunch of others too, some of whom no longer exist because I needed the slot...

No, that mask is already live and free for everyone.

That mask is finally how the Partial Masks should be done. You can use it on every face Detail. No longer the same featureless pudgy face.
Kudos who ever made it, now update the face Pattern with some cool Partial Masks.

Jonsills, I am actually very surprised that you have not gotten any of your toons to cap yet given that you have been playing for so long. Get off your butt and finish the damn thing LOL you are missing quite a few nice missions in VB if you are always playing the low level stuff. Yes playing with concepts and costumes is nice but wouldn't you want to at least finish one round of the stuff in CO?

Hocoasian, as Biff pointed out, what is your definition of a "casual" player? Is it one who does not come to the forum? Is it a silver player? Is it in terms of the numbers of days he/she has clocked? I doubt there are any serious competitive, pro players in COs per say after all this is not WoW or LoL. Do you have a level 40 toon?

I wonder how many "casual" players, by your definition, in game now, do not have a level 40 toon. If they do not have one, chances are there are still plenty of non-end game stuff they can play. The event will stay at least for a few weeks I guess which is more than enough time for even new silver players to level at least one of their toons to 40 if they choose to even by the normal missions route.

I can understand why PWE will want the new players since the old players have pretty much bought all the stuff there is to buy and while they do not come up with new stuff which we want then it is not surprising we are not spending. I have only 800 days and my stipends are piling so I can imagine the feelings of people like Snake who have been with the game since beta. Hence they have to develop something which both new and old players will want to spend on.

It is ironic in the sense because they are using the power creep to earn but yet the missions are then capped down to 30. It is a contradiction.

Does a female version exist, btw?

If you want to keep it, make that costume NOW on the character. It won't 'vanish' if they fix it. I have a toon with the Nighthawk hood and the 90's plated mask still.

I made a few characters with that hood too, but those characters were FIXED for me. The hood just disappeared.

It will fix itself if you enter the tailor. If you leave the costume alone it will not revert.

No. This doesn't mean too much since many textures are shared across the genders, but it's not hooked up for females.
