Ok so most of the time an AF is a cute novelty. But they can kinda break up the more serious world immersion.
But there can be AFs that fit into a character and the roleplaying experience. Getting the Brain Bot figure for Dr Cerebellum and the Gadroon Observer has been that for me and for a long while i've been thinking of what could be added through the game mechanic for cosmetic but more serious additions to characters.
Bats, Cats, Rats etc... good for wizards witches vampires and more.
Giant Ant... because hey, Science = Giant Ants everyone knows that
Camera-Drone.. for those heroes who like to document everything or who have to report to a boss that keeps them on a short leash.
What else would people like to see for AFs that would be less humourous novelty and more cosmetic enhancement for their character?

Although I know that it would result in a 'Cosmetic AF Lockbox'...
Deliciously nutritious!
IIRC when they debuted the Wizard/Witch concept art, they mentioned adding cats as familiars and power emanation points for staffs (or would that be staves?), wands, and rings.
*sigh*
Maybe next year.
