The Phoenix - A Fiery Jack of All Trades

The Phoenix is assosciated with fire, immortality and healing. The 'Holy Trinity' of MMORPG group composition is The DPSer, The Tank and The Healer. This build combines the powerful AoE DPS of Fire with the formidable defense of Aura of Radiant Protection and the healing of Telepathy, to create a hero that can assume any of the three roles in the Holy Trinity.

It is a Jack of All Trades build, and such things are often derided in online games as being a 'Master of None.' But in truth, a Jack of All Trades is a Master of Adaptability. It has weaknesses, such as relatively low health and vulnerability to CC, but the ability to handle almost any sitation and adapt on the fly to plug any gaps in a team's composition proves valuable over and over again in Champions Online.

Build
You start with the DPS role for fast and easy levelling, with the healing coming in as the build matures and content gets more difficult, then finally the tanking abilities. It's very important that you do not put Challenging Strikes on Fireball until near the end of your levelling.

For DPSing and soloing, use Ranged role and Fiery Form. Never use Hybrid Fiery Form in a team, because of Bulwark. Due to the CS on Fireball and the very high DPS of Fire, do not use the DPS role in teams unless there is a properly dedicated Tank on the team or you WILL pull aggro. Get in close, target the toughest enemy in the pack, use Flashfire to generate energy with Thermal Reverberation, tap Fireball to apply the UA debuff, Conflagrate everything to death. If the enemies are only Henchmen, skip the Fireball. If facing a Master Villain or higher, hit Fire Snake before the Fireball. Boss rotation:
FF > FS > FB > Conflag x2 >FF > FB > Conflag x2

Not much to say about healing. Use AoRP and Support role, or just heal from Hybrid if your heals aren't needed too badly. Use MR + EH on squishies, and just EH on tougher toons. Always use MR on self before ressing. Oddly enough you can use your Support role to DPS in fights where aggro management is more important than maximising DPS.

When tanking, use AoRP in Hybrid role. Bulwark in Protector spec makes this possible, along with your relatively high DPS and your heals. Devour Essence taunts the enemy, does high DPS, heals you and applies threat with every tick so as far as single target aggro is concerned, you're pretty well covered. Group threat takes more work though due to the small radius of Fireball. Be sure to let the team know to allow you a few seconds at the start of a pull so you can FB everything and gather them up for a Conflag. If necessary, you can use Fire Snake to pull enemies from extreme range outside the 50ft of your normal attacks. And while you do have a few ways of healing yourself, you will likely still need a healer behind you for harder fights, because you need to spend a lot of time blocking to stay alive or attacking to hold threat. This role can also be used to DPS and solo if survivability is an issue; you will likely pull aggro but you're tough enough to handle it.

Gear Suggestions
Cost reduction PUtil with Cost reduction mod, an Avoidance PDef with Dodge mod, Crit POff with Healing mod. Either purple secondaries with the right stats and cost reduction/dodge/healing, or the 3 Armadillo secondaries. Find room for an Ego mod and, if you can afford it, a Pre mod. Should be able to hit roughly 40% crit, 100% severity, 40% dodge, 60% avoid, about 8k health in Hybrid.
