Whenever I try to launch the game, a little window appears named Cryptic Launcher Autoupdate. I t displays this message:
Trying to update launcher.
Please be patient
Tried connecting 1..2...3...
When i get to 3, another window appears:
Patcher error
The connection was idle for too long
It's so annoying because I can't run the game, which was working perfectly until now. I've already uninstalled an re-installed CO, and when I re-installed it, it worked perfectly again, but after closing it, the problem has come back when I try to run the game...
Are there any general updates or am I the only one with this problem?

Getting the similar error on Vista 64. Was running fine earlier this week but I've not logged on since last sheduled maintenance. Internet connection seems generally fine and have checks no other apps connecting after a re-boot and using netstat -o.

I'm having the same problem. I was logged in earlier in the day, but I've been unable to log in since I got home tonight because of this problem with the Launcher. Also, I've tried loading the Game Client directly from Explorer to bypass the Launcher, but logging in there gets me stuck at "Connecting to the Account Server..."
same, i was playing normally this evening, and turned off the computer for a while, when turned back on and tried to enter again now im getting this same error
Guess I'm not the only one having this issue. Mine's pretty much the same as others. Was able to play earlier today. Came home tonight and now I'm getting the same issue with the launcher. When I try loading the game client and skipping the launcher it idles out while trying to connect. Not sure what the issue is.
Same issue here. No luck logging in as yet. This is really cutting into already-limited playtime... a dev response somewhere in the forums would be nice
Backup your Champion Online...
Rename your Cryptic Studios folder with something else...
Install the game again to the same path with your Champion Online folder...
Ex: \Games\Cryptic Studios A that renamed before, then install to \Games\Cryptic Studios...
So the launcher path will be the same as your Champion Online before...
After installation, copy the newest launcher to the old one...
Delete the newest installed Champion Online, then run the old one, don't uninstall, just delete...
If it work, it will be run just like mine again...

I've poked around the Champions Online installation directory and found the error log. Every time I attempt to connect via the launcher (version 2011.8.31.1950), 3 additional entries appear:
2 [1] ESC : The patchclientlib is internally recording error code : 33\nThe patchclient got a message while it was in a state with no response function. - No response for some command in autoupdate state
4 [1] ESC : The patchclientlib is returning error code : 33\nThe patchclient got a message while it was in a state with no response function.
5 [1]: Launcher PCL Error The patchclient got a message while it was in a state with no response function.
Anyway, I figure it's something the Devs will understand and would help them figure out what's going on (if they're not aware of it already).

UPDATE: Following Khily's suggestion, a friend of mine downloaded the game again and installed. It worked so following a hunch, I asked him to eMail me the launcher (Champions Online.exe). Once I got the file, I replaced my old launcher file with the new launcher (version 2011.9.14.2025) and everything worked as normal.
Strange that the launcher didn't update itself during the last patch but this seemed to work. Just wanted to share this to those who still have problems loading the game.

2. You can Cancel when it starts Patching;
3. Copy the "Champions Online.exe" file from the install directory and replace your faulty launcher;
Of course, things would be much easier if they'd just let us download the launcher but this is a quick fix if you need to fix two or more machines quickly.
seriously??? install the game again, jeez...that's a pain... oh I hope cryptic tries to solve this issue or better yet, think of best solutions for this without having us, downloading - installing and patching again!

AGREED! Actually, we don't want to go through the downloading, installing and patching the game again. It's really a pain - so pleaseeee!
Reinstalling it can be a pain, but it can be even worse if that doesn't fix it. So please, need dev feedback to know what to do. They want us to reinstall? fine, but want some proper autority to say so, not "a friend of my friend...".
Ok, replacing the new launcher with an older launcher does work. Just do what TophX and Khilly has written and it should go on fine. Thanks for the help.

I think simply lending launchers will not solve the problem, because the launchers remembers where you installed the client. I installed a new copy of the game on a different folder and then copied the launcher and deleted the rest. When I ran the launcher, it ran a patch of 4 GB because it can't find the directory where I installed the game.
You must follow the troubleshooting steps they have provided to the letter. Simply sharing the launcher will not work. Anyway, I'll still link it here just in case.
Yeah same, not willing to wait and waste bandwidth while this patches up again. If no proper solution is forthcoming, I guess my experience with champions will be another short one.....
If you guys intend to share launcher files, ask from someone who installed their game in a directory similar to yours. For example, if you installed your game in C:\Program Files\, then ask a copy of the launcher from a person who installed their client on the same directory.
As of now I'm able to connect and the game is running normally. Simply copying the launcher that is installed from a different directory result into being required to patch the entire game.
Renamed original install directory, Re installed client, copied all files from original install over to new install EXCEPT champions online.exe. Works now.
But seriously , If I didn't have the client on disc, I would not have re downloaded this. Devs need to fix this asap. or at least acknowledge the problem.....

Just a question...why am I patching all over again? The only thing I have replaced here is the launcher and nothing else.
Making matters worse is that the patch is a 4GB. :mad:

Someone shared a working launcher, I downloaded it and it worked. I guess we just need a working launcher.
I just installed it again into another drives ( Previously E, now D).
Then you copy all the extra stuffs from old folder from E to D ( be careful on checking.). Then use new laucher from D but got all the old patches.
And you'll be ok =D.
PS: Look like LordXar faster than me lol.
This worked for me. No huge update or 4GB patching occured. Only 320 MB, maybe because of the recent update.
Its the same for me. Can't believe the Devs haven't responded.....
