The Police, are they more epic in the Rpg than game?

Alright, maybe you guys would have answer for this. Is the police force given better gear by Unity. And are they more heroic in the comics than right now. Just asking hoping they would get an upgrade next like Viper.

They're more likely to upgrade bad guys that you'll be seeing throughout as you level, not questgivers.

But who has such a level range? I suppose there's Argent, who you see anywhere from MC to MI. But they're boring, and I hope they don't focus on them too much ;)

Yes that wouldn't be a group that I would like to see upgraded. The reason why the police is they are the wimpiest group in Champions. I mean, come on! A world of super heroes and yet the police are the weakest, lowly respected, group in the game? I want to see them upgrade, given a main hero, and have a great deal of respect in Champions for what they are doing. :D

And yet, police officer armed with only a riotshield and a nightstick can beat up group of attacking qulaars....

Giving police the "Viper" upgrade, i bet 1st thing theyd do, is clean out city of all the annoying, destructive superheroes...

And there is upgraded policeforce, it's called UNTIL.

I think the main reason they don't need to be super upgraded is because they don't face super threats, that's our job ;)

Funny, I seem to walk past cops in Power Armor all around the Ren Center....granted I don't see that power armor in play much else...but I assume that has to do with the fact that the city as a whole is completely overrun with heavily armed street gangs and demons, and nerdish fanboys..

Yeah, if I was a cop I think I'd let the heroes handle the big stuff. I'd be okay with guarding the armory and the jet :)

As far as upgrades go...I'd really like to see Cryptic do some work with the streetgangs. Of those in play only the Red Banner and Purple Gangs have any sort of depth. Giving the Maniacs, Black Aces, and Cobra Lords their own respective story archs would be a ncie way to widen the leveling path and expand the CO universe.

One question that strikes me personally, is are the Cobra Lords tied into VIPER at all? I sort of see them as a Dreadnoks style offshoot. One thing I will say is that motore cycle gang could use some actual motorcycles...

Black Aces...Yeah, I want some Clockwork Orange misisons :)

Maniacs could use some more depth too...for the Malkavians of the CO universe they seem surprisingly shallow on content.

Oh and universily, all mobs need some higher level missions. I want to knock some irradiate tale at level 40 :)

You know those bottom rung viper agents? The ones that get knocked out by the dozen with a roomsweeper? They were cobra lords before they got a job with Viper ;-)

In the CU, most major metropolitan police forces have what's known as a MARS -- Metahuman Activities Response Squad -- unit specifically trained and equipped to deal with supercriminals and such. IIRC there are some mentions of MARS gear in CO, though I won't swear to it.

Cool, so seeing your answering questions. Is there some sort of hot shot super cop in the CU that could appear in CO?

The closest we've come on that is Mayte Sanchez, who's already in the game (and of course is a PRIMUS agent rather than a true cop). Our book Everyman, which details ordinary folks who interact with the Superhuman World in some way, features several cops and other law enforcement types (including Javier Sanchez, Mayte's husband), but none of them are "super cops." However I imagine just about any NPC in Everyman is fair game for CO if they want to use 'em. ;)

The fun part is that many of the characters in the book, along with several others who've already made it into the MMO as mission-givers and such, have the names of actual fans. They bought their way in through our "donate to our charity, get your name in a book" program. ;)

They're there, Steve, in the tutorial, along with a "where are my additional MARS units" line.

There's also MARS consummables in MC, and a few MARS mission rewards. And of course there's Kodiak, it's kinda fun to let some Purple Gang thug chase you near Kodiak and then watch him make short work of them. :D

I'd love to see more missions with cops NPCs. Not escort missions though, I'm thinking more like Operation Stranglehold. The blues actually look like fairly competent guys and gals in that one. Of course when your job description includes keeping an eye on a prison compound choke-full of supervillains, you better be competent!

Excepted Stronghold's guards and Kodiak, most cops in CO look kinda weak. Which is understandable given the general tongue-in-cheek tone of the game and the need not to have NPCs that might overshadow PCs.

He's like a North Dakotadian.. Pretty scary Chief.. if you're like an evil person.. So He'd be at home in the Fargo Movie for sure ja by golly. ok.. Now who wants hot-dish,,
FBI Special Agent Kodiak is a neat fellow , I liked his Bio.
Silver's a special Primus lady for sure.. Like the intro to the invasion says on the fly over.. Primus troops o n the front line .. City Po po overwhelmed.. by Bio Tech from those qularr. So the Posse Comitatus Laws out the door.. Its really gonna bite rollin up i nur Ford Po hooptie with ur lit pew pew and seeing a Invasion LEaders PA.

Ya Night Phantom.. More missions like "Friends o n the Force" Working w Kevin McClintock .. I mean the DT
has a fine Police Station across the Blvd from the Battle of Detroit Museum.. and they are all tied down by the D-Bots normally.

If you work something in to repair that chronic burning Building near the construction site DT... with Public Safety to start in that range of early 20's..

IT could go like escort the relief crew inside to advance the Hightower concept from the WEst Side up from Sheaars[sp] bar.

The tech that goes into making something like Defender's Power Armor, which is what you need to be on par with 'superheroes' if you don't have any super powers yourself, is far beyond the ability of any police force to mass produce to equip their members with. They have some power armor suits, and you can see them on guard in various places, and the MARS guys get special training and gear.

Besides, if the good NPCs were as powerful as us, we'd be out of a job!

That would negate the need for Superheroes themselves. I bet the Police forces budget has been cut to ribbons due to the hundreds of Supers flying around doing the work for them. :)

There's also a downtown MC mission where you have to save one of MC's MARS teams under cover from a destroid attack. It's the one with the "Get to the choppa!" lines and the smoke grenade you have to deploy while fighitng off a ton of destroids.

Actually, I don't think CO takes place in the future, but an alternate present. I do know that, in CU lore, magic, and therefore all super heroes and impossible technologies, disappears in 2017-2020.

I always assumed that the main reason for the general ineffectiveness of the MCPD is the expense in fighting super powered criminals. It's one thing to give a cop some riot gear and a better gun, but it's another thing entirely to start issuing out power armor or more permanent treatments like genetic modification. And if Bureau 17 is any indication, robots aren't a good answer either, since they can be reprogrammed by enemy forces.

In fact, I'd wager that MC's government actually depends upon freelance superheroes as a key part of their peacekeeping strategy. The MCPD probably actively seeks superheroes to "deputize" for law enforcement purposes...

An update where they remove all super powers for 1,000 years? Something tells me that would not go over well with most..,

I mean like a adventure pack where only few people have powers. Like Jury's time machine 2

This is superhero land - people get reprogramed by enemy forces as often as robots do!!

Not good powering up the police and then having some mind-control mastermind run off with the whole force (again).

How about this? A new super hero focusing on power armor becomes the new head of the police. That way there someone we can look up to. Other than faildefender.

You also get rescued from Foxbat (heehee) by a trio of police officers when he sets you up. At the same time, two officers with guns can get killed by two escaped criminals with lead pipes, so...

They probably figure since there's dozens of superheros wandering around, their budget should go towards repairing all the stuff we throw around and destroy rather than train up cops. :D

    Alternatively...

"Why don't you guys get better equipment?"
"They figure we'll just respawn anyways."
    "Wait, what?"
    "What?"
    "You said..."
    "Don't be silly, I didn't say anything."

And when the police get theyr own designated superhero, maybe wearing blue uniform, helmet and shield looking like policebadge, he ends up beating Kevin Poe to near death and only Poe's brain survives and becames new Superior Super Villain... wait... didn't that happen all ready in ...elsewhere??...

I recently read the Champions "Cops, Crews and Cabals" sourcebook (description here) - it's a recent book, 2008 or so. It has a chapter devoted to the MCPD's elite anti-Supervillain team, Special Unit Omega.

Special Unit Omega is supposed to be not just a MARS unit, but the best of the MARS units. And they do get unique gear, which is described in the book...energy rifles, extra-durable restraints, that sorta thing. That's it. Better guns and better handcuff-substitutes.

Not forcefields, power armor, or anything like that. Which is kinda the point - the cops are the brave underdogs. In one of the NPC writeups, a team member is described as being so hardcore he punched Ogre (a brick supervillain) in the face. And subsequently got sent through a wall and spent weeks in traction. And he said it was worth it. The point seems to be that the cops are outgunned by supervillains...but they fight them anyway. That's the point.

Ding! Got it in one. ;)

I've played in some fun campaigns based around that sort of premise, too. Sometimes it's fun to be incredibly powerful... sometimes it's fun to be the underdog.
