Insights... what level do I need to research?

So I have been crafting quite a bit in the last couple of days and I have sort of hit an annoying wall (not unpassable, just annoying).

I have around 240 skill and everything I am making requires certain components. These components are not extremely common, and not extremely uncommon... so I can farm for them if I wanted to spend hours flying around gathering them. The really cool thing is that there are conversions I can get to make them from some of the more common components I have.

Unfortunately in order to purchase these components I have to use an "Insight". I have never once gotten an "insight" from researching. I am not longer getting 5/5 difficulty from researching anything. I have even tried putting 4 items in the research list at once and still do not get 5/5. None of the items I get from quests at my level are providing me with difficulty to get an "Insight".

So basically at this point I cannot make the items that are for my level because I don't have enough of the components, and I cannot make the components because the items I can research do not provide the Insights I need to buy the conversions for the stuff I am making.

This chain of crafting worked just fine through minor and slight insights. I was able to get what I needed to create the items for my earlier levels and even some stuff above my early levels. But now I am sorta stuck. I would need to farm for a very long time to make just one item.

Does anyone have any clue as to what I can do to get an "insight"? I have been researching many items of my level and above but none of them provide me with enough difficulty to get me an Insight. So what do I need to research in order to get an insight?

Thoughts? Help?

I very often get an Insight when researching at 5/5. Just add more items to your research. I have less than 200 points and I'm swimming in Insights, must have gotten 3-5 Mild ones, and a bunch of Slight ones.

You can research stuff you built yourself too, not just drops you find. I often develop a few copies of my highest level (by the number of skill I had to get to be able to buy the plan) stuff just so I can research on it afterwards. You get a bit less raw materials out of it than you put in, but you get skill points, and I often get Insights by doing that. If it doesn't total up to 5/5 I just build more stuff, low level if I don't have enough materials for higher level ones, and add them up until it gets to 5/5 (it often takes more stuff to get from 4/5 to 5/5 than from 0/5 to 3/5... as long as the yellow bar continues filling up, adding more stuff has an effect on the quality of your research).

You get Insights from high quality experiments. To get a higher experiment quality, you need to put in better items and/or more items. If you're using white/yellow items, it can take quite a lot of them to reach 5/5.

Hey! Thanks for the response, but I don't think you understood my post. Maybe I need to clear somethings up.

    1. I have gotten Mild and Slight Insights. (many of them. Cool! :))

    2. I have been crafting for a few days now, so I understand how it works.... I think :p

So with this info here are my problems...

    1. I don't have enough components to make the higher level stuff.
    2. The drops and rewards from quests are too easy for me to research (meaning I get 1/5 or even 0/5).
    3. Even If I put four items in the research I still get 2/5 at most.
    4. Because I cannot research 5/5 I am not getting the higher level "Insight" (this is an insight just like the mild and slight ones... but they are just the next level up. The name of them has no descriptor they are just "Insights")
    5. Because I cannot research 5/5 and get Insights I cannot purchase the conversions neccessary to convert the tons of common components into the components I need at this level.
    6. Because I cannot make things at my level I am going to end up getting to the next cap before I have the components necessary to make the stuff 50 points below the next cap.

I am in a limbo zone. Unable to make the stuff at my level (and still gaining skills) and unable to get the conversions necessary to help me make the stuff at my level.

So as a result of this problem the only thing I can do to progress is to go out and hunt for components... I understand this is what I am supposed to do... IN PART. I should also be able to convert. Yes, I can spend many hours hunting and gathering stuff (I don't pass up a single opportunity to get components when I am questing now LOL) but I would rather the game worked as it was intended. I would rather that I am able to use the conversions for my level, when I am at that level.

At this rate I will be a much higher level when I can finally make these items. Meaning I won't be able to use them anymore because I will already have better stuff.

Hope I am missing something though.

Ok i get this... any suggestions where I can find "higher quality" items to experiment on?

It seems to me that the quests I am doing are only giving me items that are white/yellow.

The conversions are a nice thing that some crafters can choose to spend their Insights on, they aren't necessarily something all crafters will end up taking.

I need more conversions. I'm always running low on various ingredients and having a surplus in others. I need recipes for converting one of the two common ingrediants into the other of the two 1:1 (Dreamstuff for Fairy Onyx, for example), or for converting one of the rarer ingredients into several of the more common ones. It sucks to be sitting on 10-20 of the more rare ingredients in a given tier and yet being unable to make anything because the recipe calls for only one of those, but like 20 of the "common" ingredients that you only have 9 of. I'm constantyl running out of Aether and Dreamstuff well before anything else.

Shouldn't it be possible to just get that stuff from the nodes though?
Granted, live is a different experience by the sounds of it than CB and OB were, but the general components were relatively easy to come by.

Some of the blue stuff wasn't, which could be a pain when you needed 4 of them to make your item. :(

And yeah, granted, that is resource farming though.

I'm constantly on the lookout for nodes and harvest them as often as possible, averaging maybe 12-16 per hour of gameplay, but I still fall far behind on basic ingredients. I mean, one 105 skill item takes 16 Aethers (among other things), which would mean harvesting at least 16 nodes, and chances are that half or more of those nodes would give something else instead. And that's just to make ONE item, which you;d then break down for only 1-2 skill points and have to repeat several times to get to 201.

I'm just telling you, from my experience I'm finding that I have a ton more of the "rare" ingrediants than I have need for relative to the number of "common" ones the recipes call for. I might have ten times as more common ingredients than rare ones, but if the recipes call for 20 times more of them then I run out of them twice as quickly as the other.

One of the things that made beta work better was that the system was bugged and would DUMP common ingredients like crazy. Now that this is a more rare experience, it makes getting the necessary ingredients very difficult.

That would be nice. I also have found that I usually have far more of the 'rare' crafting item then I need at any one time but tend to run short of one or the other of the 'common' crafting items that I need in much higher quantities.
