Reworking Builds (Blades!, So much Blades!)

Hello All

So I've been meaning to Repair/Rework some of my builds that were under-performing, but I never got around to doing it as I wasn't doing so well and I felt quite a bit unmotivated as of late, but never fear!, my mind is in a better place and here I am!.

All the builds here are Melee focused but do have some minor mix and twists here and there for the build itself (and theme wise ofc). Most of the builds here are older builds, that are getting minor touches and there will be some new ones. (In case you do notice that)

The Builds: NOTE: All current builds are level 40 and are in the PH, as of right now. I do not leave the PH, until all builds are complete.

The First Build is a small change of my "Omi Engi" build I did a while back, I removed two powers that I wasn't useing much, while keeping the core of the build the same, with the removal of Crimson Bloom and Lighting Ball, I have gone with the Warden Mastery, as I am always useing the Combo power (and Dragon's Wrath) for the best DPS. (9% DR isn't much, but I'm sure this scales with SS).

For that last two powers, I am thinking to get something that improves my survivability a tat, such as another Heal, but I'm not too sure yet.

The second build is a complete rework of the "Opit-Mentalist" build, quite frankly the build didn't work out and felt strange to use, while I already have a pure Psion build and enjoy the PSI-Blades a lot more then I do with the TK powers themselves. (Sue me). So the build has completely changed to a Melee Focus, with atleast two ranged based power, for Debuffing and Healing.

Now while I can go for Mental Storm/adv for the Stress, like I said before, I find myself always useing the "Combo" power alot more, then most. (Other powers are just Utility or Healing).

Last two powers share the same fate my other build, not too sure what to use for them, besides extra healing or protection, suggestions for them are welcome. (Mind Control? ;) )

Main Focus is Blade and High DPS, Specs/SS/Tals and Gear are all sorted (if I made a mistake, let me know).

The last build (alteast for now) is another complete rework of my old Anomaly Dominion build that is now a Melee Build with some focus on Technology as it's Unity Powers.

I copied the SS/Secs/Tels and such from the other Psi-Blade build, that should be ok with this build, I think this is all I am going to get out of a mix like this.

As usual, you post too much to review at once :p But your builds have improved overall, so at least that means there's less to go over.

Anyways, for the 1st build: I'd skip the Crescendo adv on Blade Tempest and just get R3. You can also prob skip the Rampant adv on the lunge. The rest of the build is okay, I guess, though you may want to add Eye of the Storm (if you also want a good defensive option w/ its dmg shield) or Sword Cyclone (w/ its AoE pull-in adv). The other open power slot can be w/e ya want- like maybe a self-res or a threat wipe. Lastly, although Vorpal Blade is good, you may also want to consider trading it for DB's Whirling Dragon Strike (if you have it), since you also have Vorpal Blade on the SB build.

    -

For the 2nd build: I may change to a DEX/Rec/Con SS setup here (still w/ a Dex focus), but I suppose the one you have can work out okay. I would prob skip the Head Shot adv on the lunge, since it's just a Disorient for 2 adv points on the low-dps gap closer. I wouldn't have ranking up Mental Leech as a high priority, since that only affects its kinda low dmg, and you're taking it more for Dependency and the interaction w/ Mind Drain's adv. You also prob want a wider AoE in there (like EB Frenzy). Mental Impact is a fine Ult (since it also applies Overpower), but it's technically the ranged TK one. Since you have EB Pandemonium in the last build, I guess having Mental Impact on this one makes it a bit more distinct, which is fine. I would also prob max out The Best Defense in Warden (instead of Fortified Gear).
Last two powers share the same fate my other build, not too sure what to use for them, besides extra healing or protection, suggestions for them are welcome. (Mind Control? ;) )
Yes, Mind Control- in every power slot. Confuse everyone, then steal their lunch money. A very good build idea :+1:

    -

For the 3rd build: Again, skip the special adv on the lunge (Cut Down). The build has some kinda odd healing/support power choices for a dps SB build. I'd prob drop at least one of those powers (Illum, MR, Sprites, or MLeech; also, skip Illum's special adv, if keeping it). To replace one of those powers, I'd prob add Scything Blade in (w/ Swallowtail adv), as a nice pbAoE option.
(also, no weird name for this build? I'm disappointed, man)

    -

For the last build: Once again, nix the lunge's adv, and you could consider a DEX/Rec/Con SS setup here too, as well as getting EBFrenzy (or another wide TK AoE). Ego Weaponry also lacks the Stress adv this time (unless you want to add something like MStorm w/ adv for that). Not much else to say about it, since there's a good deal of overlap w/ the other builds here (though you could also consider Conviction instead of ERush as a heal).

    -
You could also take Brawler spec for any of these builds (w/ Setup, Ruthless, Penetrating Strikes, and prob Flanking), but Wardicator is fine to keep too if you want a more all-rounder approach for a melee dps. Dex_Ego_Str Mastery could also be taken instead of Warden Mastery, though I suppose Warden Mastery is okay for all of them.

(Also, sometimes you aren't selecting the proper role in the HeroCreator, so just to make sure: you want to use the Melee DPS role for all four of these builds.)

Thanks, I've been trying to improve as much as I can and yes, there was a lot to overview here, but I wanted to sort them all at one go, rather then separating them in each post. As for the roles, yes, I keep forgetting that in the HC itself, but the roles in game are already set to it.

Also regarding Eye of the Storm/Crimson Bloom powers, while they are great powers to use, I tend to find myself not useing them unless I'm in a big spot where I need to use the shield to block swam of mobs that are attacking me. So, that's why I've ditched them in favor for more of a high-DPS view, but taking Warden Mas, to alteast get more protection while spamming combo.

Now I was thinking to use the Block/w it's adv, but I do not know if the 10% damage drop is that high enough to really matter. (As I never go high end content). Why I go for more powers that can keep my HP up.

    Anyway, onto the builds:

First Build: As for my first build I've made the appropriate changes as suggested and I've also shifted the Talents and SS a bit to give more Con and Strg. With a tat bit less Rec. (Gear should cover any loss of Rec). Edit: I can go back to DEX/Rec/Con SS setup if the one I use won't work.

Now I was thinking on adding Energy Wave/w HPM & Reverse Polarity, But it's quite costly to cast in terms of Engrey and Adv Points. so I may not go for that, I was thinking something like perhaps Protection Field for the extra help. But I think just a general good heal will be better.

Speaking of healing, is it still best to go for Endorphin Rush over Fair Game?, as the issue with Fair game, I have to make the kill.

As for the Second build: I've gone for the suggested SS and Talents (Not sure why I keep picking Ego :/ ), now like my first build, I can go for a Strg/Dex/Con build here, but the current set up is fine, I just don't know whats "Stronger".

As pointed out, I have also got a TK/AoE for mobs all around me (I ended up picking TK Maelstrom for that, as I'll be up close at mobs anyhow and the stun will be super useful. I was thinking Telekinetic Eruption, for the Aegis Adv, but the knock back is not ideal for melee.

Last power I'll likely go for a threat remover

    For the New Build:

I've toned down the amount of healing choices and gone for a pbAoE option. (Tornado Slash) for the Stun as well, as that may be more useful. However I can always go for Scything Blade. I dropped the Adv on lunge as well and replaces the shield and Lunge to be a bit more mixed.

I've kept Mental Leech, For my heal (although not sure if its any useful to rank it above that, as the damage ins't good, as you said). And I also kept MR as well, for the extra shield.

    Last power not sure yet.

(also, no weird name for this build? I'm disappointed, man)

Well, funny enough I was gonna make a name for this build and it was going to be based of "Teshin" from Warframe, with the recent new Trailer for the new War. Dual O-Katanas with a mix of Lighting and Fire, but the issue was that, we don't have any means of adding them to our Melee, so I ended up going for something else.

The dmg shield from things like Crimson Bloom and EotS can be very good, but it ultimately depends on the content you run and on the rest of the build if you'll get any mileage from it. I also prob wouldn't normally take Energy Shield's Laser Knight adv for a melee dps build- the adv's defenses can be nice, but the constant dmg penalty, 3-pt cost, and short uptime make it less appealing overall.
Eh, I'd prob take STR/Dex/Con (still w/ a Dex focus) instead of DEX/Str/Con for the two MA builds, though DEX/Rec/Con is also fine. I guess any of the three of them could work out, as long as your energy management is good and Dex is still the main stat.
Now I was thinking on adding Energy Wave/w HPM & Reverse Polarity, But it's quite costly to cast in terms of Engrey and Adv Points. so I may not go for that, I was thinking something like perhaps Protection Field for the extra help. But I think just a general good heal will be better.
Yea, Protection Field is not gonna be that great on a non-Support. EWave w/ Rev Polarity is pretty good, even for a melee build, but you may want some cost discount gear to help w/ it. Sword Cyclone's pull-in adv can do a similar thing here, though, and may be more fitting for a DB build, but it's up to you.
Speaking of healing, is it still best to go for Endorphin Rush over Fair Game?, as the issue with Fair game, I have to make the kill.
Fair Game can be fine when solo, but in general I would prob recommend ERush of the two, and mostly cause it doesn't have the added stipulation.
As for the Second build: I've gone for the suggested SS and Talents (Not sure why I keep picking Ego :/ ), now like my first build, I can go for a Strg/Dex/Con build here, but the current set up is fine, I just don't know whats "Stronger".
I'd prob only go for Str PSS in a TK Blade build if you either wanted to use 3/3 Juggernaut + Con PSS (for a tankier build) and/or wanted the extra knock resist. Otherwise, I'd prob just stick w/ DEX/Rec/Con for general content, since it gives you a nice mix of dps, health, and energy.
Yea, TK Maelstrom is good. It can't really replace a non-cd AoE like EB Frenzy, but I guess you can make do w/ it + Ego Weaponry's cleave. And yea, I prob would pass on TK Eruption (unless you just wanted to tap it for the Aegis and HoT advs, but then it's being used for defense and not for dmg). TK Wave w/ it's pull-in adv is another decent option you could consider, though it's also a cd power.

I wouldn't expect MR to be that good here either, though I guess it at least has a potential heal effect at the end (unlike w/ Protection Field).

Tornado Slash is a fine cd-based power. Just like w/ TK Maelstrom in the other build, it doesn't really replace a non-cd AoE, but again you could AoE more w/ the basic combo, if you don't mind the smaller coverage compared to a pbAoE.
Auras, weapon skins, and even re-coloring powers could prob help convey that a bit, if desired. You don't necessarily have to rely on the build itself to convey a theme, but it's up to you on how you may want to customize it.

Alrighty then, here are the builds:

As suggested I've gone for the STR/Dex/Con (still w/ a Dex focus) instead of DEX/Str/Con for the two MA builds and this does feel better I'd admit. I've also gone for Energy Wave /w both Advs. I'll work around some cost reductions, but tapping the power seems to do the same effect as well.

Stuck with Endorphin Rush as well.

For the 2nd MA build, I've removed MR and kept in Tornado Slash, I did test out both and I do enjoy Tornado Slash more, due to the Stun. (Although you'll have to remind me what is a pbAoE?).

I've also gone for Particle Smash[ to help with the theme a bit, that I was going for and I ended up picking Laughing Zep, for my oh-shi- key.

Roughly the same as my other MA build, I still have Advs to spend on, but not sure where they will go.

Yes, I know this now, even tho I still have the habit of trying to get the build itself, I've got a few Auras in mind that have already set what I need. (sadly we don't have weapon auras, that apply over the weapon). but no worries, I can still use such to mimic it as best as I can. [Weapon Display: Heavy Weapon Shoulder] does wonders btw for the O Blade.

For the TK Build: Gone for Str PSS in a TK Blade build, same as my MA build but bit more focus on Con and Dex, this time aorund. TK Maelstrom as kept and thrown in Laughing Zep, as I feel all melee builds need some kind of quick getaway (and stops me from getting Mind Control)

Last 2 Advs, same story, no idea where to put em.

    2 ADV points.

    1) Block rank 3 can't hurt.
    2) Second travel power rank 3 ( for concept/taste).
    3) Head shot or NttG adv for lunge.
    4) Leech Strike on EB if you use EB.

For the 1st build: I would pass on the Hardened Matrix adv w/ EWave- it's not that strong and it takes 3 adv points. Also, the knock-in from EWave's Rev Polarity won't really kick in until it's charged at least halfway (if tapped, it'll be a weak reverse repel), but as you get better gear it should be easier to afford that. Anyways, the 1st build looks mostly fine atm.
(Although you'll have to remind me what is a pbAoE?).
pbAoE = point-blank AoE, an AoE centered around you.

The 2nd build looks pretty good as well.
Edit: Oh, but you also prob want to change R3 in Reaper's Caress for Cleaving Strikes, so it puts up Shredded. You could also take the stun/knock adv on Particle Smash (instead of R2), if you want.

I'd prob put the extra 2 adv points into R3 of the block, R3 of the 2nd travel power, or NttG on the lunge (for the 2nd build, and for the 3rd build).
TK Maelstrom as kept and thrown in Laughing Zep, as I feel all melee builds need some kind of quick getaway (...)
Well, a reverse lunge isn't really that important in of itself, since you can just use your travel power to get out, but it does also function as a threat wipe here, which could be nice sometimes.

Str PSS is a bit odd for TK Blades, but if you value the extra knock resist and Juggernaut's extra defense then it can work fine (it's not going to be as optimal for dps as other setups, but it can still be pretty solid there). I'd prob change the one Con+End talent to Dex+Rec, though.

Ah alright then, in that case I'll grab something else then, as that was I was planning to use the Adv for that, but no worry, I''ll find something to fit in there. Thanks for the help on this.

And thanks for the info, forgot about that.

Yeah that's what I was thinking and yes, my bad I forgot to correct that in the HeroCreator, gone with the Rank 2 /w Adv. As for the left over Advs, I'll likely go for the Block.

I can change to Dex/Con/Rec if that will be more ideal for DPS, I not knew that the Str PSS, might not be so ideal for a TK Blades, extra tanking I can pass up tho.

So here are all the finished builds:

    First Build:

I might end up just going for Support Drones in this matter, as I can't see another alt power to fit and it does give me the Extra Healing as well in the background, via teammates and myself. But I'll toy with this on my own time, but the build is considered done.

You could trade the Talents w/ +5 Int to ones w/ +5 Ego instead, for a small base dmg boost, or towards +5 End for slightly higher max energy, but it's not a big deal, either way. You could also trade 3/3 in Fortified Gear for maxing The Best Defense and getting 2/3 in Upper Hand for the TK Blade build, if you want to trade a bit of defense for more dmg. Slaughter could also be taken in Warden for the 1st build (prob instead of Fortified Gear), for a similar trade (assuming you use the combo enough). You can also pick between Juggernaut or Overpower in the builds w/ Str PSS (or split the points), depending on if you want a bit more melee crit or a bit more defense for the build(s).

Those 3 builds look pretty good now overall, for the concepts. I'm kinda iffy on the Support Drones, but they can be fine in easier content where they don't constantly die or cause AI issues, so it's just up to you there.

Yup, Support drones are still up in the air, not sure what I go for yet, I -might- even considering Psion-Nightmares to match the "Holographic" theme.

I;ll switch to Ego, for sure, but the dmg boost, but I can go with a tiny bit of both. And yes I'll can add 3/3 in Best Def, over Fort Gear and yes, I think may end up going for Slaughter, I didn't see that was combo based.

    Thanks for the help flow!
