Armor slot

I just got a loot drop with three slots in the costume, one of which is labelled "armor" and into which I can't seem to slot any mods. Is this purely cosmetic?

- Armoring slots only take Armoring type mods, they're the ones that look like a robotic donut

Note that once you have played a bit and have begun to stock pile mods you'll learn that mods of levels 1-3 for armor and enhancements are pretty pointless. You need to fuse 5 level 1s to get a level 2, 25 level 1s to get a 3, 125 level 1s to get a 4, 625 for a 5, and so on. By the time you have even a handful or two of level 1-3 mods you really don't have any use for them in the gear you have. Core mods are a bit more useful. I still keep those of level 3+ (and some of them only can be acquired at level 3), You'll eventually discover the joy of Fusion Week where you can spend much of an afternoon fusing all your low level mods in order to get something useful for end game.
