Help with Alita: Battle Angel homage build

benoitseanbenoitsean Posts: 322 Arc User
I want to create a character like Alita from Battle Angel (If you haven't seen the movie then I suggest you do, it's awesome). Anyone who knows, Alita is an indestructible, sword wielding, martial arts fighting cyborg badass. Her abilities are Agility, Danger Sense, Heat Generation, Invulnerability, Longevity, Stamina, Super Speed, Super Strength, Swordsmanship, and Unarmed Combat. I did a rough draft in the HeroCreator of my idea of what I would like her to be.

The special adv on Laser Deflection is good for defense and knock resist, but will lower your melee dps while the block is slotted. The build looks pretty functional for Laser Sword, but I'm unsure what you're planned rotation is.

Ideally, LS builds put up Disintegrate and 5x PBurn, then spam Lumi Slash as much as possible, and using something like Lightwave Slash to refresh debuffs (Lightwave can also be used for the pbAoE)- though this takes high energy generation (and just spamming Lumi Slash is an easier fit w/ FotTiger + Dex). You can go for rotations that are easier on energy (like just alternating between the combo and Lume Slash, esp w/ Brawler's Setup), though they'll likely be lower base dps, and here your rotation would have to be a bit diff naturally since you're using MSA as the EU (PBurn + Particle Smash can put up Disintegrate instead of the combo, though it'll also consume PBurn). You could also replace one of the powers w/ R3 Conviction if you want another self-heal on a short cd.

Brawler spec can also be good here, though Wardicator is still pretty strong overall if you want more of a mix of dps and defense. Juggernaut in Str PSS is fine too, but also more of a defensive choice vs. Overpower. There also aren't any Unarmed attacks in here, yet keeping it all in LS does make it more cohesive and easier to build around.

Thanks for the quick response. What would your build look like for a sword wielding cyborg/android? Something that would be good at end game content plus easy to level up.

Edit: I replaced INT with END and replaced MSA with Unified Theory to utilize the change. I also changed a few of the Talents to go with the change. Here is what I have now.

Well, if using Particle Accelerator, then you need to SS and focus on Int, cause that's what it scales with. MSA can still work as the EU, since it also scales w/ Int, but it'll depend on your rotation as to how often it procs..
So again, it comes down to what your planned rotation is here. You can make a sturdy dps build that can work in most content just fine, though keep in mind for end-game stuff that hybrid-dps are not optimal for a dps slot, esp if also taking something like Data Conversion on top.

If you want a hybrid-dps LS build that has an easier rotation on energy, then you could try this:

Level 6: Healthy Mind (Con: 5, Int: 5)
Level 9: Boundless Reserves (Con: 5, End: 5)
    Level 12: Investigator (Int: 5, End: 5)
    Level 15: Acrobat (Dex: 5, Con: 5)
    Level 18: Coordinated (Dex: 5, Int: 5)
    Level 21: Accurate (Dex: 5, End: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Power Bolts
Level 1: Lightspeed Strike (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 6: Particle Accelerator

Level 35: Laser Deflection (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 38: Thundering Return
    Adv. Points: 34/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6:
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Intelligence: Preparation (2/2)
    Intelligence: Enlightened (3/3)
    Intelligence: Detect Vulnerability (3/3)
    Intelligence: Expertise (2/2)
    Warden: Fortified Gear (2/3)
    Warden: Slaughter (3/3)
    Warden: Ruthless (2/2)
    Warden: The Best Defense (3/3)
Brawler: The Glory of Battle (1/3)
    Brawler: Penetrating Strikes (2/2)
    Brawler: Ruthless (2/2)
    Brawler: Setup (2/2)
    Brawler: Flanking (3/3)
    Mastery: Warden Mastery (1/1)

Alternates between Lightspeed Strike and Lume Slash, and uses PSmash to apply Disintegrate (once you get at least one stack of PBurn up). AoE can be done by just lunging in and using Lightwave Slash's pbAoE, and/or using Particle Wave to group up enemies for follow-ups w/ Lightwave Slash or Lightspeed Strike's cleave (and PSmash's AoE). Gears mostly for Int, w/ some Con and End. Energy should be okay w/ high-level gear, but you can always try MSA with INT/Dex/Con (or DEX/Int/Con, still w/ an Int focus) and rotate in cds if you find it works better.

To be more useful at end game you could drop the self rez and take an offensive passive. You'd need to free up adv points though.

Mainly by switching gear to focus more on Con, using the Tank role, and getting some Challenge advs- at the least. You may want to go further and add more defensive specs and/or another AD. Although you could still use R3 Invuln, you may want to switch the passive to R1 Defiance for full tank build, since the extra energy can be quite helpful for a set like LS (more stats in Con means less in Int or End anyways). For example:

    https://aesica.net/co/herocreator.htm?v=32&n=&d=13480oMQUPTa0000009100A10bA700JA00AA00A30bK503A504AF03ON05ER00AD0iA9031L002sib3SWh21u630000000000&e=

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Constitution (Primary)
    Level 10: Intelligence (Secondary)
    Level 15: Endurance (Secondary)

    Talents
Level 1: The Cybernetic Warrior (Con: 10, Int: 10, Rec: 8, End: 10)
Level 6: Healthy Mind (Con: 5, Int: 5)
Level 9: Boundless Reserves (Con: 5, End: 5)
    Level 12: Investigator (Int: 5, End: 5)
Level 15: Quick Recovery (Con: 5, Rec: 5)
    Level 18: Negotiator (Int: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 21: Amazing Stamina (Rec: 5, End: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Power Bolts
Level 1: Lightspeed Strike (Rank 2, Particle Acceleration, Challenge!)
    Level 6: Particle Accelerator
    Level 8: Defiance
    Level 11: Unified Theory
Level 14: Lightwave Slash (Rank 2, Light Mend, Challenge!)
    Level 17: Conviction (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 20: Lightspeed Dash (Download)
Level 23: Luminescent Slash (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 26: Resurgence (Rank 2, Evanescent Emergence)
    Level 29: Masterful Dodge
Level 32: Particle Wave (Illuminate, Bad Footing, Challenge!)
Level 35: Laser Deflection (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 38: Thundering Return
    Adv. Points: 33/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6:
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Constitution: Unyielding (1/2)
    Constitution: Fuel My Fire (3/3)
    Constitution: Resilient (2/2)
    Constitution: Adrenaline Rush (2/2)
    Constitution: Armored (2/2)
    Warden: Fortified Gear (3/3)
    Warden: Slaughter (2/3)
    Warden: Ruthless (2/2)
    Warden: The Best Defense (3/3)
    Protector: Fortified Gear (3/3)
    Protector: Unrelenting (1/2)
    Protector: Bulwark (2/2)
    Protector: Defensive Expertise (3/3)
    Protector: Resolute (1/3)
    Mastery: Constitution Mastery (1/1)

You could still use Brawler + Warden specs if you want more of a dps focus, but its less defense and maxHP that way. Or you could go w/ a more in-between option w/ Wardicator or Warden + Guardian. Protector or Warden Mastery can also work well here, depending on what you want.
