Freeform Slot Concerns

I've already sent a support ticket about this and they kindly answered that they forwarded my concerns with the developers, but the gist of it is that recently I came back to the game after over 4 years of inactivity, and obviously, my characters are locked since I was a subber. Found out that I couldn't sub anymore and I wasn't going to fork 300 dollars on LTS this far ahead of the game, which only left me with one choice: Buy a Freeform Slot Token. They can now be applied to existing characters which is what pretty much everyone wanted from the beginning so I decided to make my previously Gold main Freeform again with that, but to my surprise my character was forcefully respecced even though she's going from Freeform to Freeform.
This was awful because I did not remember the specifics of my build so I had to employ the help of friends and around 5 hours of testing to get back something similar to what I had before. They shouldn't even be respecced in the first place since it's exactly the same.
Anyone else that had to deal with this? Is there a way to check the or skills a Gold character has before going through with the process of turning them into a permanent Freeform with the Token? I barely remembered my main's build, I'm NOT going to remember all the things my Alts had.

The forced respec is possibly independent of the slot conversion. If you've been gone a long time there's a chance that you were using a build that became invalid due to a power framework rebalance.

Don't worry, it's likely that every single one of your characters will have a forced retcon and will need to be rebuilt due to the sheer number of changes the game has gone through since you last played. The good news is, all the powers are cooler and betterer now, so in the end you win. Also free retcon yaaaay! \o/​​

If you forgot the build you probably forgot why you built it that way

100% this is the case. Your absence of 4 years caused you to miss a lot of power rework. So far most power sets were touched up on quite a bit. Only ones to my knowledge that haven't been is Archery, Wind, Force, Celestial, and the Might sets, possibly shadow hasn't been touched along with the mental powers. The rest have basically been changed.

If your toon even had ONE power from the reworked power, sometimes, you were forced into a full reset. A few rare times saw only one power/spec removed and allowed you to respec only that power/spec.
