What is the benefit to unlocking the 10,000 Guardian Token Villain device?

I've been working on collecting Guardian Tokens for a while now and am getting close to the 10,000 amount required to unlock the purchasable Transform Device.
But after browsing the vendor store, I started to wonder if I should use those accrued points to purchase something else of value from the vendor, like the item that boosts melee damage for example.

Since my goal is just to get enough Villain tokens (also 10,000) to unlock the Lance Rain power and then stop doing the Onslaught Missions, I was wondering if there was any reason to continue with my original plan and purchase the unlock for the transform.

What benefits does the unlocked version grant?
Can it be used more often then the mission granted version?
Like more then once every 20 hours?

The unlocked version can be used (with no timer) by buying uses for 1,000 tokens each; the tokens also drop in TA. Note that this doesn't reset the daily mission, it just lets you play a villain again, so if you're reliably completing the daily it's not terribly important.

The devices can also usually be bought for about 300g I think on auction. Seems much easier to come by than 10,000 guardian tokens.
