How many characters slots does lifetime subcribers get?

it's infinite up to the engine's hard limit, because you unlock a new one every time you get a character to 40 - and the hard limit is apparently very large, because some people have well over a hundred alts and still haven't hit the cap​​

Lifers start with 16 character slots.

you start out with 16 for LTS, 8 for gold.
Everytime you hit 40, you get another one.

Eight is for normal subscribers. One of the benefits to having lifetime is an extra eight slots on top of the 8 from being a subscriber. And yes for both gold and lifetime, another character slot for reaching level 40, every time.

how can it max out at 100 if people in the altitis challenge have more than that?

I currently have 120 level 40 slots and something like 38 leveling slots.

You may be thinking of the limit to buying character slots. Once you've gone above 50 or so characters, you're unable to purchase more (you don't even get the free one they gave out for Christmas), but you can still earn more slots by reaching level 40.

You may be thinking of the limit to buying character slots. Once you've gone above 50 or so characters, you're unable to purchase more (you don't even get the free one they gave out for Christmas), but you can still earn more slots by reaching level 40.
