@asterelle it seems to work fine as is on standalone hubs but in embedded page it is all sorts of messed up atm - I think i have a work around for that but need to do some tinkering.

    It's me again. onion-18.gif

I'm using the STO Federation theme atm and sometimes quotes (and nested quotes) are formatted differently. Is this because I use the enhancement and someone who doesn't use it inserts quotes a different way?

    Examples:
    - http://forum.arcgames.com/forsakenworld/discussion/comment/12701286/#Comment_12701286 (this seems to look right)

Also notice the 'XXX wrote:' instead of 'XXX said:'
I've checked the other themes and as far as I can tell there is at least a slight visual difference there except in the PRO themes they look the same.

Probably the difference is the text format that the posts were created in. Before the hubs almost all the posts were in BBCode but afterwards a lot of people were switched over to using HTML input and I think some are still stuck in Text input. These all have different quote styles and produce different results. Enhance uses BBcode which I think is what people are most comfortable using.

I think it's really bad to have all these different input formats out there at once. Too many problems.

The strategy I'm using atm to deal with URLs is to get the base URL from the $('.HomeCrumb a').attr('href'). It's the "Home" link at the top of the page. The one for here it points to http://forum.arcgames.com/arc/

it's more to do with the embedded forums being in an iframe - as such they do not natively 'know' where they are on the parent document so scrolling is messed up and autopaging.

from some investigating currently the iframe on embedded forums cannot communicate with the parent document via javascript/jquery due to cross domain security - both are ultimately in the same domain however both are different sub domains. I have a clunky resolution which involves those using the embedded forums adding a seperate add-in which forces anything on *.arcgames.com/* ro use arcgames.com as it's base domain - doing this allows javascript conversation between iframe and parent page.

Locally I have this working on the game panel add in - so if it detects it is embedded and the cross domain fix has been applied it creates the side panel within the parent page rather than the forums. This allows position:fixed to work with no issues and the game panel moves down as the page scrolls.

I am working through the issues on discussion manager as I have time - the above fix works to add the toTop and toEnd buttons to the parent page, however still need to tweak code so that it toggles visiblity when near top or bottom of parent. Additionally autopaging when reaching the bottom doesnt work due to the same issue but should be resolvable.

I have another solution to look into which would also need a seperate add-in running on arcgames parent/wrapper to allow communication but currently my brain isnt firing on enough cylinders to figure that one out ;D

    damn the inability to edit.

Ohh if you need to inject into the arcgames page it means I can't just include the JS, blah.
It would be nice if we could totally ditch the embedded version and maybe include the Arc navigation as an embedded iframe at the top of the page, not sure if we need the footer too. At the moment though we need the embedded version for the login information though since you can't login natively.

Just had a quick check and it appears they use slightly different class names for the quotes (I assume, as asterelle pointed out, it's due to different input types generating slightly different quote formats, because PWE). I'll take a look at the theme files tomorrow though and see if I can add in for the alternate classnames so they look the same or at least more similar. :)

    No problem. :)

I've pushed out a change to all three Fed themes today to cover the alternate class names for quotes. It may not show up straight away for the variant you're already using but it'll kick in at some point once it picks up the new file from GitHub. Sadly I can't add in a 'link' like most quotes have which take you to the original post the quote came from, but at least they look more like the other quotes now.

I discovered an undocumented API that's perfect for comment preview!

    http://forum.arcgames.com/arc/discussion/getquote/Comment_12700993?format=BBCode
    http://forum.arcgames.com/arc/discussion/getquote/Discussion_1195098?format=BBCode

It's what is used for converting formats when quoting a post. The best part is that it's native and doesn't mark a post as read. This means I don't need to use the yahoo proxy any more so comment previews are now much more responsive and reliable!

Had a small issue with last comment preview that is now fixed. I forgot that I can't actually get the last comment id from the discussion page for some stupid reason and had to make a secondary API call but it's all good now. I will need to extend this fix to the auto page loading stuff soon.

Ohh I also need to do this for the recent discussions page... blah. I hope this works out.

@asterelle I have a request, though I'm not sure how easy it would be to implement it.

Could you add a "Sign In" button to the forum nav bar in the non embedded version, preferably only having it display when the a person is not already logged in, which could link back to the non embedded version so we can actually sign in?

I ask simply because it's getting annoying having to track down the embedded versions every time I accidentally delete the sites cookies and have to log in again. I only keep bookmarks for the non embedded versions of the sites. Plus, some sites are harder to find. I couldn't find any direct links to this forum via the Arc page, I had to go to another game I remembered was still hosted here and then back out from that to the main forum.

Just a thought for a possible feature. :)

I had that idea earlier and tried embedding the arc top nav bar on the top in that case which looked nice but then when you clicked the sign in link it wouldn't break out of the iframe.

Just having a single sign in link in that case is doable though!

Out of curiosity, how often does the extension check for updates to Eiledon's PWE_games.json? I added two new STO devs to the Admin Posts search last night and he merged the changes about 13 hours ago now, yet the search is still not getting the new names.

Edit: Around 5 hours after making this post the new devs showed up. So maybe somewhere around 24 hours between checking for the file being updated?

Ok, that's fine. I could have actually checked that myself really, but didn't think about it until after the event haha. Good to know for future reference.

whatever they did makes it really easy to get stuck in an sto ecosystem. once there, 'discussions' and 'bookmarked' pages show only threads within the sto node and completely ignore all threads that originate from elsewhere. its hardly ideal...

(and nested quotes appear to be broken)

Yeah it's the annoying side effect of being moved off to separate hubs again. Eiledon's game menu is very handy for getting around between the hubs.
And yeah, nested quotes have been broken on this hub for some reason since the change over. Be grateful you missed the couple of weeks where we couldn't even edit our posts haha.

Nested quotes owrk fine, but only when the editor is in BBCode mode. If it's in HTML it doesn't work.

Also, what the hell is up with this new TextEx format I'm seeing? It's worse than html.

You made that post with BBCode, and it's broken.
I always stick to BBCode also, and all the nested quotes I've posted are broken on this site.

Not sure why some people are getting TextEx, but I've noticed a lot of people over on the STO site are apparently forced into that and it's quite annoying. They can only post plain text and if they quote anybody it just shows up as "null" at the top of their posts. I still can't fathom why the admins don't seem to be too concerned about the fact that so many people seem to have so many different default settings for their posts.

See now that's really strange. It works just fine with nested quotes on the PWI forum when it uses BBCode.

Yeah, it does on the STO boards too. It's specific to this forum. They may have disabled nested quotes in their settings over here for some reason. I've tried reporting it a few times now, but I'm not sure who actually runs this forum so not sure if I'm messaging the right people haha.

Yep, just came to post about it. I was half way through a thread, went to the next page and was like "What the..."

Sadly, I have a lot on just now so not sure when I'll be able to fix them. The theme menu is now even hidden behind things. :(

Fixing the menus is high priority. I will try to get it done today.
The editor menus seem pretty good but might need to change the colors around.

Let's just hope this is the theme they are keeping, and we don't all go changing things only to find they've changed the base theme again in a day or two haha.
