  • You could have tried playing the game instead of waiting. Or just stopped playing and come back when the things you wanted were in. You're not paying a subscription, the devs don't need to march to the beat of your drum. f2p games are not games that you have to live in 24/7. This is both a disadvantage and an advantage.…
  • Part of the problem is this: nowadays, people expect to be able to solo lots of MMORPG content quickly and powerfully. So every class has to be viable for solo content - in a trope, everyone has to be a Tankmage. This means that the idea of classes depending on each other in group play, and some classes being strong…
  • Champions Online wasn't the first time Cryptic have tried a classless system either, City of Heroes was originally designed as classless, they switched to Archetypes after it was found in Beta that the classless system had those kinds of problems. I think they did a pretty good job in Champions, but the trouble is,…
  • I agree with the argument that the kind of build customization possible in D&D would be too difficult to balance for an MMO, and they've made the right decision here. I do think that there could be a hell of a lot more visual customization though. There's not enough visual stuff to spend Zen on.
  • I agree, I agree, but the trouble is, the variability is there, everywhere except at the top end of players. For most players of this game, probably, most of the abilities (other than those outright bugged) do have uses. The trouble is, the high end of players always seem to "break" a system, however varied it might have…
  • Don't know about dual spec in the sense of changing paragon paths or feats, but certainly it would be great to be able to switch different loadouts with a single click (say to numpad buttons) instead of faffing about changing powers one by one. As a CW, there are often different loadouts I need for single target and AoE…
  • There are players who play together for rp/theme and not for min-maxing clearing the dungeon, so if that's what you want to do, there are players out there who will welcome that. But if you run with the average type of players who want to do the dungeon as quickly as possible so they can move onto the next one, it's only…
  • It's almost always limitations in dungeon design that lead to the tiresome "damage is king" meta in almost all MMOs these days. Dev teams usually start out with good intentions, as shown by the variety and intrinsic interest of the class design in this game, for instance (i.e. on paper). But dev teams all seem to run out…
  • When has fairness ever had anything to do with PvP in videogames?
  • Every now and then, this is a major annoyance. It's no problem while there's no fighting going on, but when you have a stack of them covering the screen while there's combat, it's very irritating. I don't mind having the info, but it doesn't need to be that huge.
  • Race re-rolls are a step too far IMHO. A single stat re-roll in case of newb mistakes, ok, but race re-rolls is too integral a part of the roleplaying element. To put it simply, if they introduced race re-rolls, it would cheapen the idea of "choices have consequences" too much, and it's already on a thin enough thread in…
  • Are you in a guild? Being in a guild multiplies the fun in an MMO a lot. There's only so much juice you can squeeze out of an MMO as a solo player, the most fun to be had is playing with other people and chatting as you play. A not inconsiderable part of that kind of fun is, once you yourself are geared up and know the…
  • That's nonsense, there's no such thing as "instructions" in a PUG ferchrissakes. From more experienced Guildies, yes, one might take "instructions", but so far as a PUG is concerned, there is no boss of a PUG, and no one has a right to "instruct" anyone else how to play - UNLESS it's going badly. But according to the OP…
  • Eh? Not sure how that's supposed to be a response to my post which you quoted.
  • CWs are just absurd atm, and I say that as someone with a lvl 60 CW. I mean, it is a lot of fun, in a way, being OP, but it also makes me feel slightly queasy inside. Far too much damage (although actually (oddly enough) not enough control). I think the GF's aggro powers should all be waaaay upped in magnitude. The Tank…
  • I've found L ALT is a good button for the various dodges - thumb quickly curls in, very easy to do while still steering normally. Little finger movement affects the other fingers more than thumb curling in does. (I'm a pianist, FWIW.)
  • Yeah it does take some getting used to to be able to use HW and the Divine heal, but as others have said, you don't really need them that much as constant Astral Seal firing (keep it up on all mobs all the time if you can), Sunburst and Forgemasters Flame (a huge heal in Divine mode) are the main healy things for most of…
  • I don't know if that's what his point was, really. It's more that this game was designed as a PvE game, with added PvP content, but the devs created such an intrinsically fun combat system that PvP-ers enjoy playing it. However, the supporting "strategic" structure around PvP just isn't there yet - the devs were caught on…
  • Yeah but I think what Inthefade is saying is one of the suspicions I've had that I'm afraid of. From what I understand, it is incredibly hard to do real-time FPS-style shooting in an MMO. It's different from a multiplayer version of an FPS, too many people in one persistent world, too much stuff to keep track of. So in…
  • Bumping for great justice. It would be nice to have some answer from the devs ... any answer, yea or nay, why or wherefore, to this.
  • Obviously it depends on playstyle and obviously one can work with it. The request is for a change that won't affect you if you're happy as is.
  • Yeah, that's a kind of workaround. If you have a line of mobs incoming spread out in front of you like 1234, you can be sure of targeting 4 if you swing your mouse far to the right of 4. Same with targeting above. After all the point of sticky targeting is to have a "halo" area around the mob where if you click while the…
  • What on earth are you talking about? How would that help the situation? I am using the mouse. I don't think you understand what the problem is. The system is designed around console controllers, and it decides where your cursor is nearest, and when you fire off an ability - the camera shifts automatically and you hit what…
  • I don't want to lock targets, I want to use my MOUSE to precisely target something and hit it, then quickly target something else and hit it. Sticky targeting is basically for console controllers, because console controllers (whatever other virtues they have) don't give you very fine control of a cursor over the 2-d plane…
  • It's odd you know, for me, visually it's charming, and I actually love the way it's set up so that while you're in PE doing other stuff, you can incidentally get a few tokens while you're running around. But then I guess I'm not aiming for a particular goal in the event; I'm using it only as part of play in which I'm fixed…
  • Exactly, happens like that in every MMO - a new class is FOTM for a while, then it settles down after a few weeks. People usually know by about level 20 whether a class "fits" for them.
  • I thought the Devoted Cleric was a "thing" in D&D 4e (known as the "laser cleric") ? I expect we'll see melee clerics down the road, because the basic 4e Cleric (Templar) is a melee build. I think Cryptic just went with DC for first cleric because it was optimal for balance at the start of the game (considering other…
  • Yes, and as I've just suggested, a videogame needs visual assets to play with; it's a necessity, because it's a videogame. Otherwise we might as well be playing a MUD. Of course you can roleplay without them, nobody's doubting that. You can roleplay in a any videogame just as you can roleplay without a videogame, since so…
  • A visual asset is not a "visual crutch" in a visual game, it is part of the game. Nobody is denying that you can get on with roleplaying under most circumstances. You don't even need a videogame to role-play. You don't even need to roleplay at all. But this just happens to be a videogame. In which people roleplay. So…
  • Indeed. Taking it to an even broader level, I've often seen in MMOs that developers start off with good intentions for CC. After all, in PvE, who doesn't like CC? It gives you a feeling of power, is often hilarious, and contributes to team survival. And mobs, being AIs, don't complain. But in games that have either or both…
