Are we ready for PVP as an end game game in mod 6 ?

masterofmiragemasterofmirage Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 522 Arc User
After re-reading the WMA redit with the grand poobah for NW, hes said that PVE is ment to be easy and the real endgame is PvP.
In fact he said that baised on PvP is huge hit in other place's on the big blue ball than just USA.

So i got to thinking about that alot and in away hes right. In the end after you done all there is 100x, where do you go?
PvP!
It is the 'Real End Game' .. Its where all the GODZ go.. rest too easy.

So i thought to ask how others feel about it.
Are we ready yet? :)

It depends on how you phrase the words End Game :)

People playing this game are not really interested in "end game". If they were they would quit in mod5 because of tiamat was the only endgame, and that you could do by instantly by just getting to lvl 60 (you just needed 10k gearscore)

So endgame in mod5 was tiamat, over and over agian. The developers are most certainly not aiming for us to have an endgame in Neverwinter and the players seem perfectly happy with that.

PvP is for the hardcore crowd that have legendaries and rank 10s and etc

Players equipment gets stronger, mobs dont. So that new wep you get just makes PVE easier, that new wep someone else got just made it harder for you in PVP. PVE will never and can never be as difficult as PVP. If you make monsters so hard to beat that you need to top gear to beat them, you will never initially beat them to get the gear without using exploits (Difficult mob A drops equipment that makes mob A easy to beat and allows you to try and beat mob B etc).

While PVE can never be truely as difficult as PVP, that doesnt mean they cannot tune end game stuff to be more difficult. Instead of those mobs dropping new higher items etc, they could drop very high refinement items that could be used for alts etc without ever making that fight any less difficult. This would give top end players a challenge and something to work for while never making the content obsolete. I am honestly not sure why more games do not follow this pattern. The few I have played were always the most fun.

I find "end game" to be a misnomer in a game that has no defined "end". An MMORPG is constantly evolving and adding new content.

The term "high level content" sounds more logical. When placed in that context, PVP is not the only high level content in the game. Some prefer dungeon delves, some run Tiamat ad nauseam.

So PVP is a form of high level content, it just should not be inferred to be the only form of high level content. That's a matter of player choice and preference, and the bar of success in those endeavors is equally a matter of such choice.

NW's original team clearly earmarked foundry for endgame content. PvP wasn't developed by the original programmers. PvP is a clumsily implemented add-on.

Two dev teams into NWs life, TPTB may want PvP for endgame, but they're spitting into the wind. Endgame PvP is certainly less time intensive on programmers and easy to monetize, but most people play NW because it's D&D. D&D is intrinsically PvE. Parties of adventurers against the world. This is Neverwinter's strength. PvP is not Neverwinter.

When I PvP, I choose games specializing in PvP.

Actually, he never said that PvP was "the" end game of Neverwinter. He even said that there were no major updates on PvP for the next module, which he was referring to Module 6, but did say there were things for both PvE and PvP. As well, when he mentioned end game, he was referring to Well of Dragons and the Tiamat Encounter in that context. So to say he was referring to PvP is taking it out of context.

The end game of neverwinter consists not just of PvP. It consists of PvE replayability, Foundry, and PvP. Not one in any particular preference over the other.

Furthermore, the "other places" he was referring to was stated as being the Russian Server, where he also mentioned that the PvP population on the International Server (Dragon) is small, while it is large on the Russian Server (Drider). So he was referring to the Russian Server as being what is driving PvP content into the game, which will such development will come into the International Server based on it's desire over in Russia.

Your original post is leaving out so many details of what he actually said, which to me, makes it look like you're trying to be purposely misleading.

Here's the actual AMA if anyone would like to read what he actually said.

End Game - When I log off for the day.

There's always so much to do there's never really an "end". Every "end" is merely a beginning to something else.
