So I didn't put this in bug reports because it's...well, honestly I'm not really sure what it is, but I'm curious if anyone else has the same issue.
Every several seconds when I'm moving in the game, my character will suddenly stop moving forward. At this point my mouse still works, I can still click on things, I can move side to side, I can move backwards, however I will not be able to move forward at all until I release the key and press it again. Then it'll start working, until several seconds later when it again stops.
It's definitely not a keyboard issue as I've tried alternative peripherals and have exactly the same issue with those. The weird thing is that it ONLY happens on the Cryptic games. The exact same thing happens in STO and Champions Online, and yet on this same computer this issue does not happen in any other game I play. I play a lot of games, and this occurs exclusively on Cryptic titles, and in all three to boot. It's rather odd. Just curious if anyone had any thoughts.

Do you happen to have a gamepad attached? If so, unplug the controller. Cryptic games don't have full controller support at this time. Having a gamepad with even the slightest calibration imbalance of the joysticks, can mess with WSAD movement if it is plugged in while using the keyboard and mouse.

Nope. Keyboard/mouse, or alternatively Razer Nostromo/mouse. I've tried it both ways, exact same thing happens.

It even happens on the Nostromo when only that is plugged in?
Do you keep the Nostromo plugged in while the Keyboard is also plugged in?
Well technically yes, as I'm playing on a laptop. That said, it's hit or miss whether or not I use the Nostromo, or whether or not I've had it plugged in. This same issue has been happening for over a year, this is just the first time I've posted about it, and I've tried every combination of peripherals I have plugged in or not many many many times.

Hmm, try disabling your touchpad on the laptop maybe?
Also I'd peel off that W key from your laptop keyboard (very carefully, look up a youtube video for a how to if you're new to cleaning laptop keys but most come off relatively easily and go back on just as easily). Clean out anything that may be stuck under there. Don't use water, use a q-tip with a very small amount of rubbing alcohol on the q-tip (so little that you couldn't squeeze it and have any drip out), and wait for it to evaporate before putting the key(s) back on.
There might be something in the Cryptic code that it's sensitive to detecting the W key being pressed by two different peripherals, and may stop pressing also when you're only using that due to anything stuck under it.
If none of this helps and no one else has any additional advice, I'd definitely file a Technical Support Ticket, choosing any of Cryptic's Three Games for the game to file it under.

Touchpad both on and off, same issue happens. That said, I will say again that this issue happens EXCLUSIVELY with the Cryptic games. I play a wide variety of WASD-based titles and every last one of them works perfectly fine except for these three, so it's not a problem with the key. For that matter I opened Notepad at one point and just held the key down for three minutes straight and it never stopped responding, whereas the movement in the game typically disrupts no more than every fifteen seconds or so. Usually less. That's what is so confusing here as it's clearly some kind of issue related to the Cryptic games (not inherent to them, obviously, but related to them in some manner) but heck if I have any idea what.

I had edited the following in while you wrote this, sorry!
There might be something in the Cryptic code that it's sensitive to detecting the W key being pressed by two different peripherals, and may stop pressing also when you're only using that due to anything stuck under it. (your notepad testings suggest this latter is not the case though)
If none of that above helps and no one else has any additional advice, I'd definitely file a Technical Support Ticket, choosing any of Cryptic's Three Games for the game to file it under.

No worries! I did just pop the key off because far be it from me to not follow all the steps and just presume you know, cleaned it and the socket, put it back, and tested it. No change. I'll put the ticket in but I was just curious if anyone had heard of/seen anything like this before.

For sure, we'll leave this open for you as long as this remains an issue. If you find out from Support, please let us know (but don't paste their reply, due to our privacy policy - but you can relay such in your own words). Good luck!

I have this issue too. Both DC and GWF. Need to press "W" again to start moving forward. But in my case it's a very rare issue, it happens from time to time but not bothering me too much (wireless Logitech kit)
Must be some sort of multiple pressings, 3-4 keys at once... not sure, don't know how to reproduce this issue "manually"

I had a passing though after reading your post sobac:
Do you both manually edit your keybinds with the /bind_save and /bind_load commands?
I wonder if you have multiple keys bound or even the W key bound to multiple or the same key by mistake. Does this happen on every character, even a newly created one that has all the default keybinds?

I have one character with keybinds in STO, the rest don't have any. I use no keybinds in Champions, and I use no keybinds in Neverwinter. In fact I haven't changed so much as a single default hotkey in Neverwinter.
I also very rarely have a similar issue, but all I need to do is lift my finger for a second to fix it
What annoys me more is when the game thinks 'W' means left mouse click and instead of creeping up on the mobs I start attacking them with my at-will (not fun as a CW trying to avoid aggro in eLoL) and have to dodge for no reason just to gain the use of my key. Probably just a multiple pressing thing just as someone suggested

Ah, I had the same issue just like you and i though it was my keyboard.
I've had this problem, more or less, since Alpha testing in Champions, through STO & NW. Something in Cryptic's code just doesn't like letting people move fluidly. Sometimes it's being unable to move forward, sometimes it's being unable to strafe side to side until I stop moving first. Pretty much just seems like at random points the game becomes unable to acknowledge if a new movement command has been entered too soon after the last one, or while another is being maintained. Doesn't matter if it's WASD or rebound to UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT. It's always been really disappointing, since they had movement working really smooth in City of Heroes, back before they split off and rebuilt.
(FWIW: I use an XBOX S-Pad, with the left stick reassigned to the arrow keys)
Interesting. I can 100% confirm that it is NOT related to too many simultaneous inputs though, nor related to too many sequential inputs, as I have tested it by doing nothing more than simply holding W and running in a straight line and it still does the same thing.

Thanks for answering, zeb. The only key I've changed is "3", I've changed it for middle/wheel mouse press for faster pot use (did this from Configs)
So I got the followup from the support ticket. They said they already know about this issue.
I'll also take this opportunity to reiterate that this has been happening for well over a year. Put those two facts together, and draw your own conclusions.
