I thought there was DPS and then there was taking damage that determined your success in heroics, did that change?
I have a GF that has been using knights valor, iron warrior and standing in dragon breath, seriiosly standing in it taking full force ... in fact that breath its so hard that when i'm blocking with guarded assault and using fighters recovery i'm getting heald for 7500HP a tic from the breath ... not to mention the claw hits I take and god knows how much damage from other party members ... so why on earth am I NOT getting GREAT SUCCESS?
In IWD wasn't the damage taken given a nice buff so that GF could more readily get into that reward tier?
Please don't tell me there is no difference in great success and non great success ... first of there is ... the coin reward is lower ... and the chance for getting other stuff is clearly higher because on my CW who can get GREAT SUCCESS on all 5 heralds pretty consitantly (depending on the number of dragon slayers running around doing the same) he will often get two sometimes three epic rewards out of 5 dragons ... granted there are times when none come from it too. But i've also seen somthing like 15 coffers drop from a reward too that came from a great success.
So yeah it would be nice to see some contribution that rewards something other than raw DPS.
Anyway every GF will become a paladin and GF will be abandoned for good.
Its a shame I actually got to liking my GF and was getting pretty good at being an actual tank in groups and learning how to solo effectively with mine. I was just starting to enjoy my GF despite his near total protector build.
I did buy 2 new character slots so yeah I have one left to leave open for the Paladin just to have one and another oppurtunity to farm blacklake for AD lol
I'm not sure what I am doing that you're not, but my GF seems to get Great Success around half of the time. It does seem to be based on how much damage you take, so I usually switch to Timeless to be less tanky and have a little bit less defense than total tanky-kit would give me. Each time I get pushed back I head back in with lunging strike and swing away until the next attacks that throws me back.

I dunno other than the fact my GF is actually full protector build wearing Grand Regent armor.
I literally stand in dragon breath, if there is a dot on the ground I stand in it, I take as much damage as possible, albeit with my shield up.
So maybe its not so much damage dealt to me as it is the actual amount of damage I take? Because I mitigate a LOT of damage it seems. I also heal a TON with fighters recovery so I haven't a clue why I never get it on my GF and you seem to be getting it some of the time.
I even use guarded assualt to do a little extra reflecting damage. Not sure what else to do other than just let the dragon kill me and hope other players will actually res me.

Running a Conqueror in Timeless, and I did notice a difference when my mitigation dropped below 50%. Maybe that's it, or it is some other random factor that neither of us knows about or thought of.

Don't worry man,in the next patch GF will be the main Dps and the CW will be the Tank..NW has no rules about it!XD
My CW is already a tank. I can't tell you how many times I tank a dragon on my CW and do it better than MOST of the melee and even GF classes I see fighting dragons. There are soooo few GF's that do what they should be doing, most just run in circles like mindless morons who just got blinded and think swinging the sword in as wide an arc as possible will help. I've sat there on my CW and SW taking claw and bit hits to the face holding my ground and dealing damage ... only having to dodge to get out of dragon breath as that will actually kill my CW as opposed to my GF.
ITs pretty funny to watch my CW tanking and actually holding threat from a dragon even with there is some dude with a shield running around the dragons feet swinging his sword like he is doing something productive when in actuality he's just running in circles pretty much being worthless and useless.
Can't say that I can tank all mobs, but single target dragon I can seemingly easily. CW tank for the win!

Dying counts towards Great Success, but you can also get Great Success by not dying and inflicting an equal amount of damage to your hp. Now, if the Devs would just give 10,000 pts for resurrecting another character (about what you could do in the time it takes to resurrect another character) that would help towards Great Success and be seen as bringing D&D back to the cooperative effort it began with.
Use Knights Challenge vs the Dragon, not Valor. You do extra dps(and self heal, and damage done to you), and reduce damage done to allies. You don't need Iron Warrior, use Tide of Iron to recharge your shield. Block only when the attacks are incoming, you don't really need to stabby stabby all that much because Knights Challenge makes the Dragon very angry. Pick your best other two damage encounters to fill up the rest.
Don't worry about it - you don't need Great Success to get an epic drop. However, regardless I think the drop rates for GF's are far less so maybe dps is factored into the rng.
100+ Villitrhax = no draconic greaves. my CW got her boots on the first go and numerous pairs thereafter.
50+ Tiamat sucesses t2 or above = no offhand or draconic templer gear. My CW has draconic templer gear coming out of (well just about everywhere).
Dragon Heralds - must have done about 500 dragons now = 1 belt of (cannot)selldarine. Again numerous on my CW.
I get Great Success more times than not, and have finished top in Tiamat several times (not that position matters). Just bad RNG? I don't think so. Draconic sets are good for GF and cannot get either without buying them, and I am not buying gear that will prob be useless in mod 6.
