I am working on my artifact weapons on my toons and since my luck is miserable in the game, RNG has dropped me yet the same HAMSTER weapon for my GWF this time.
Now Cryptic/PWE has made this artifact thing to keep big wallet players bound to the game, ok.
But we the casual, small wallet or even F2P players are suffering much.
I haven't estimated (can't be actually, since prices change on daily basis) the price for each new try, but this across my toons and even on one toon cost a tremendous amount of AD and after this i have only a green weapon.
Now i have spent a ton of AD and still don't have the desired weapon and now imagining it to make it even epic or legendary, Jesus insane thing.
I would advise the company to either minimize the tries or give that **** weapon of the players desire on the first time, cause without the sufficient solution to RP points, this makes the task of obtaining and upgrading the weapon an unbelievable hard task for a legit player.
Sure i could sit in front of the tv screen and use a bot, but i like to stay on the light side and play the legit way, cause i am an old fool.

I got my desired weapon after doing the quest 3 times and salvaging all the weps i got, because 3 of 5 is useless for any SANE build of my class.
But look at it in an other directon:
U do it 3 times, spend 375k AD and u get the desired weapon.
It could be done the way so u have to do it 6 times for dragonforged steel or X times for random weapon which you can't salvage and may never get it this way.
So even if it looks unfair, it is still better than some other option.
Stay positive, think of it as it could take 3 times more RP but its only 4m to make it orange.
On the other hand I do not spend AD in the AH, and I sell the not bound RP stones I get from tiamat and quests.
And I farm foundry all day with hoard, fey blessing and tymora utility enchants, I get way more drop there even if I have to wait 3 min between each drop, than any other place.
Makind them purple is a temporary solution, because there is no big difference between orange and purple stats, so after that you can stack up RP and wait for 2x weekend.
just in case it's unclear, each one you make gives you a shard, and then you salvage it like you would any purple piece of gear, and it gives a shard. do this 3 times, and you have the weapon you want from the vendor in the well of dragons.
However, if you hate it so much, and you are just a casual player, just use the dread legion weapons or the fallen dragon weapons if you can craft the fallen dragon thing through weaponsmithing. As a casual, you will never have a legendary weapon anyway, so why bother even trying for it if you can do well at pve content with things you can get pretty easily just by playing?
that would be my advice. dread leagion weapon set is better or equal to artifact stuff until artifact stuff is purple for most classes.

Artifacts and Artifact weapons are not just there for "big wallet" players as you say. They are basically the end-game for people who don't play PVP. I am very happy that they exist and it's the reason I am still playing.
Artifacts and Artifact weapons are not just there for "big wallet" players as you say. They are basically the end-game for people who don't play PVP. I am very happy that they exist and it's the reason I am still playing.
This game caters to the casual crowd more than it's healthy.
I agree that the gap between BiS and casual is out of control as well, but you can already skip ALL content and participate in Tiamat, which is so easy that it doesn't even warrant any sort of Artifact equip.
Yeah I don't think so. At lvl 15 or so the stats on the artifact weapons surpass that of DL weapons. The cloaks and belts are lvl 5 or so.
Well for example on my sw, when I switched out of dread legion weapons for artifact stuff, i lost 400 power and gained crit and lifesteal (along with a pretty minor bonus to damage on one at will). I feel that's an even swap. The blue damage numbers on the artifact weapon are better, but not by much, and the 400 lost power probably makes it even. I'm not noticing ANY significant difference when I use one set or the other in terms of damage. My crit and lifesteal were already good, so there isn't much difference there either.
I was topping paingiver during valindra and getting top 5 in tiamat (on wins) with one set, can paingiver valindra and get top 5 in tiamat with the new set. And no, I don't have the MC armor. And actually, for doing Shores of Tuern, I found myself getting over 3.5 mil damage on normal more often with the dread legion set than when I got my artifact stuff to blue. But shores is all over the place for what damage you do, so it's hard to tell. Anything over 2.5mil is really good on normal, though, and I do that consistently with either set. And no, I'm not bragging. I'm just explaining with actual evidence of successes with both.
I had very similar experiences with my GWF. The numbers don't change much no matter what you use.
So, if you want advice that is not based on staring at numbers or looking at the little yellow star with 'recommended' over one piece of equipment over another, then that's what I'll give you. If you want to look only at numbers and what the game is often misguidedly selling, that's fine. But don't complain when you spend hours farming rp or actual money upgrading to only get a possible minor boost in effectiveness. Even at purple, the actual effectiveness will be minimal for a pve player compared to just using the dread legion set. Remember, people were amazing at pve content before artifact gear even existed.
Point is, for a casual player who hates the rp system, you can do great without artifact gear.

This may be repeating myself but...
You can cheap enough (for free, no RL money) upgrade an artifact weapon with GREEN lvl 60 loot, and even buy the Greater Scroll of Identification on the AH. Price per stack of 99 varies 9k-11K. It's cheaper than buying identified blue lvl 60 items, or gems. Equip a LESSER dragon horde or fey blessing enchant, you get enough droped gems. Loot skill nodes for gems/ marks. T1 & T2 dugeons can drop purple/blue marks you need too. Watch the Auction House for bargains, or slightly cheaper items.
WARNING - For Mark of Potency of any kind always check the Wonderous Bazaar price before buying from the Auction House.
I got two blue grade weapons now, and one is almost purple. I think it may upgrade today. I got them at start of Tiamat, and been slowly refining them.
" I tried to figure out the enigma that was you, and then I realized mastering Wild Magic was easier." - Old Wizard in Waterdeep
"Why is it dragons only use ketchup? I'd like a little wasabi please. Us silvers like a variety of condiments."
"Don't call them foolish mortals. One, they don't learn from it. Two, It just ticks them off." - An Ancient Red Dragon

Getting them to purple is not the unreasonable part....it's the purple to orange that is the painful part.
It is really simple. You mostly get them through the auction house. You do not get BIS drops in dungeons. You get green drops which you have to spend millions of diamonds to refine.

Grind = Hardcore
Actual Content, is somewhere sub casual.
However, grinding at this level is boring. Boring is the bad part, hence why people are upset about the grind.
Grind should be somewhere above the level of , lets just give it to them, but below the level of , lets take a year to do it legitimately.
Both of those levels are bad. In fact every time they do something (like bind cwards or refinement points, all they ever do is hurt the legitimate players, the "others" already got their legendaries at 1/1000 the cost level.
Sadly there is actual no way to play the game and achieve legendaries artifact equipment without "ahem" making un-legitimate choices (ya some dude claimed to have grind-ed one out.. good for him, there are 4 slots, and probably more coming)
Most of us get something to the purple level, realize how utterly boring it is to grind and go look at other games. WE try to point that out to cryptic, but it has fallen on deaf ears.
Getting a Artifact or a piece of artifact equipment to Orange takes Planning and persistence. Pay attention to Patch notes and use that knowledge to play the market. Too many so called casual players got caught with their pants down on the x2 refine weekends. there are lots of changes that you can manipulate for profit if you just take the time to read and think ahead.
Yes, because we all come here to play the AH, not the game itself, silly me. In all my foolishness I thought I want to play this game because of it being 'Neverwinter' and having nice combat system but you have enlightened me. /sarcasm
If I wanted to play the market, I'd go to the Wall Street.

Yes, I have a few, I agree.
Unfortunately it still takes too long (even on 2x weeekneds) on an extremely boring refinement system. I don't want to spend anymore hours of my life with that system, it's horrible for me.
This game caters to the casual crowd more than it's healthy.

It's easier to get gear and all content is doable without much effort into getting gear, so in that case it's casual friendly. But it's also unfriendly in many reasons.
The gap between high and low gs is more insane than it ever was, horrible pvp experience
Low gs is highly unwanted and may lead to feeling insignificant if you're only trying to gear up a natural way from elitists. Easier to get kicked purely for low gs.
It's bad for anyone wanting realistic goals who might as well give up on the legendary goal. This can include casuals who want to pace themselves instead of burning themselves out.
It's bad for high gsers who have no content to use it unless they solo content.
If you want to play from time to time it doesn't matter, but for everyone else who is more into gaming then it's bad unless you're a pvp pay2winner, self botter or bought them when they were cheap.
Yes, because we all come here to play the AH, not the game itself, silly me. In all my foolishness I thought I want to play this game because of it being 'Neverwinter' and having nice combat system but you have enlightened me. /sarcasm

And spend ages identifying everything and drag-&-dropping them?
Anti-fun, not to mention the damage it does to your wrist.

I find it hilarious whenever someone tries to suggest individually identifying and picking up thousands and thousands of items as refinement. That is a recipe for carpal tunnel syndrome.
This, but be careful. If you have too much fun with the market they take away your toys.
Sadly NO, they don't take away those "tools", if they have done it, this game would be more fun and a more enjoyable place to play. Economy is in the hands of a bad company economic strategy and 99% exploiters.
A legit player is sadly a looser in any sense, but this applies especially to PVP.
And yes game shouldn't be Wall Street, i for my self i am here to play, and not spend all day in fornt of Gateway with a clock to play the AH and use gray zone methods to make AD.

this, all of this.
This is the brutal truth, brutal cause instead of catering to our fun, their way of doing business is destroying it and that can only mean destruction of the business itself. If they keep on doing things this way then for sure this way brings them more than enough profit.

Not exatly, Devs have let an easy way to get artifacts to legendary, they'r called DRAGON HOARD ENCHANTMENT, you can make one for 20k, i've 5 at then, and about a week on the 2x weekend i got, 1 cloack/belt/offhand to legendary, also my gwf artifact at lv 99, others 2 artifacts to 89 and 85, weapon was already at legendary, just needed a few hours/day to get over 15m rp, i thing everyone can do that.
There people saying you dont need legendaries to play this game. Then why are they even in the game? I dont understand why they would put gear in the game that nobody needs?
They are even adding overload slots anything that will make our damage higher by not even trying. I would rather they focus on giving us something to use that gear in

Oh and BTW about HALF the cost is getting your item from ~lvl 50 - lvl 60. Where it costs ~300k RP per level on some of those latter levels.
Even getting it to like lvl 40 is a piece of cake with blues/greens. Its the later levels that are absurd cost.
