People here keep asking to add content, which is great but.. Is there any of you that can tell the storyline?
I'd like to read a quick (not too much tough) summary of the storyline.
I'm at the 4th char and still after some point I get lost. @_@

    The story of the mmo.

A quest giver tells me to kill things for him, I do. He gives me a nice reward. The peasants rejoice.

In all honesty there is a small story line about valindra, but imo it's pretty weak, and not really worth paying attention to. The new content has nothing to do with the story but everything to do with new fights.

Basically, you are working to strengthen Neverwinter - but more subtly, you are working to strengthen Lord Neverember's hold over the city. Sgt. Knox is a good, loyal soldier, but even he expresses concern over Neverember's motives from time to time.

I'd really like to see some story that revolves around us working against some of Neverember's less charitable undertakings - maybe the Nashers have some truth to their claims about Neverember being an unrightful ruler...

Basically each zone is its own story-line. The big picture, however, is that Valindra is "shaking the tree" and indirectly causing all this stuff - up to the Dread Ring zone.

The only "direct" Valindra stories are basically the tutorial, Neverdeath Graveyard, and Dread Ring zone. The rest are all pretty specific to their zone.

The one and only 'true' story (if you can call it that) is the Linkletter story: He is the first character you meet in the tutorial after Pvt Wilfred. Then he has four quests in a row that are dedicated to his story (Linkletter, his wife Dorothea, and Rhazaad <sp?>) - which basically ends until the small conclusion in Chasm. During these quests I had real hope there would be an awesome story along the leveling process. Needless to say I am disappointed.

I suspect, however, that they ran out of time working on that and had to punch-out the game quickly to meet deadlines. If you research the history of the game development and everything that went on with it you'd understand why it is what it is (it wasn't going to be an "action MMO" to begin with, it was going to be a lot closer to the traditional pen-and-paper style, but I digress.)

It is an excellent action MMO, even with all its faults considering what the developers had to go through to bring it live.

STORIES: This is where the Foundry really shines - IF you can find the quality quests. And this is the problem with the Foundry: finding the good stuff.

I'm with you. I loved the storyline until that point.
That's basically what I mean. We are in a MMO, so yeah, the "group playable part" is a real important part in the game.
But we are not playing "LOL" or "DOTA".. It's an action fantasy MMO, based on books.

I think that the storyline should be more fine than that.
It's wonderful untill Linkletter.. I liked how you meet him again during the storyline and how you meet the dead Wilfred also.

But there is no sense for a shipwrecked to join every single quest that Knox gives to you.. Why does your player goes?
After some point, the storyline gets boring and and trivial.. Same scheme in different zone.

So, my point is: Ok for new contents, but please, take you time to develop some nice storyline and connect all the dots.

So... I really enjoy the game... really.

    But

The game is not a real role playing game... There is no strong storyline.

It may be interesting to form a guild which fills in the gaps there...

So, Ortzhy are you saying that if we read the book the storyline will make sense?
Because it does, 'till Linkletter. Then it doesn't.
I just see mini-storyline that are not linked between each other at all.

This game should and can be played without any other off-game purchases or knowledge.
It's not because we don't know the prequel, but because the storyline is bad-done.

Then, if you read the books, would you please explain us the storyline?

I cant, world of Faerun is just too rich in lore to attempt such thing and every zone has a huge lore behind it. You can find plenty of extra information in each zone (lore items), but is still a small part of the whole. There are wikis for such things, just search for what you want to know and you;ll find more than what you expect.

All the modules have books behind them.

That's exactly what it is. All you are doing after the Linkletters is going beyond Neverwinter to gather allies and help secure the region. This all becomes much clearer later on when you see these same people you helped previously show up in places like the Dread Ring and Well of Dragons. Returning past favors by helping out in these more dire campaigns

the TL;DR version is that you go around and fix whatever the Spellplague first, and Valindra later, has broken, directly by her legions or by locals exploiting the temporary vacuum of power around Neverwinter.

Every zone has its story and everything you do culminates in the Dread Ring campaign, with the final defeat of Valindra. After that, Icewind Dale is quite a break off the "World is doomed and you need fix it" theme (also, my favourite), before returning to the recent Dragon stuff (World is doomed again, yay).

Nope. She's a lich. We just sent her to bed without her dinner.

She's still out there...and I hope at some point we get to finish the fight.

I'm not sure how you got that without being deliberately obtuse. Yes you are recruiting people, but at the same time also fixing the problems of the region. Problems caused by the volcano, the spellplague, the Thayans, and other outside forces.

It actually helps the later campaigns feel more dramatic. The conflict in the Dread Ring feels more epic simply because you see all the people you helped along the way as part of it. You get the same feeling in the Well of Dragons, all your efforts, all your attempts to stop or slow the Cult have lead up to that point. One final chance to stop the end of the world. A chance no one would have, if your efforts had not helped, empowered, or stabilized the region to begin with.

That's a bit, erm, bigger than I was thinking. Undead Lich? Are you sure? Could I perhaps start off by apprehending some moderately naughty criminals and take it from there?"....

Devs don't have time apparently to work on a decent storyline, strange, considering it's a D&D game, which is supposed to be BASED on storyline.

But, with so many lockboxes to implement and other items made to drain the players' wallets - no wonder they don't have time for a story.

While I have not read the books... if you look at the overall progression of the game as a whole... this is how I see it:

    1) Intro quest sets the stage for Valindra being the main villain in the story.
    2) Main quest plotline during level up has us fighting to defend and strengthen Neverwinter against various enemies.
    3) Upon reaching level 60... we rejoin the Valindra storyline with Sharandar... which results in defeating Malabog, and thwarting Valindra's plans.
    4) The Valindra storyline continues with Dread Ring... ultimately leading to her defeat.
    5) Icewind Dale... is a plotline of its own as far as I can tell... nicely done, but with no tie in to the main story.
    6) Tyranny of Dragons... This is a storyline that runs alongside the main leveling quests... and continues past them. We first spend our time fighting dragon cultists... and smaller, younger dragons. This leads to the eventual fight with Lostmauth... but we still dont know the full motive, or who is really behind the plot to destroy neverwinter.
    7) Rise of Tiamat... Here we learn that the Thayans are working with the Cult of the Dragon, to summon Tiamat and destroy Neverwinter (and probably a lot more). Hmm... Thayans... havent we met them before? Oh yes... they were working with Valindra.

Again... I have not read the books. But from strictly an ingame point of view... It would seem that Thay is the underlying force working against Neverwinter. Malabog, Valindra and the Cult of the Dragon... seem to just be pawns in a larger plot.. driven by the Thayans. Defeating Tiamat has not resulted in the defeat of the Thayans... it only stopped her from entering the Prime Material Plane.

Once you start putting everything together... a larger story starts to emerge. And it appears it is far from over. I am looking forward to what comes next.

And here is a thought on where we go next... We have defeated dragons. Defeated a Lich Queen. Defeated Kessel. And prevented the Demon Queen of Evil Dragons... a goddess... from entering our plane of existence.

So... where do the Epic Heroes... the level 60 characters with legendary artifacts go now to continue the fight?

I can only think of one place... well.. 9 actually.

    The Nine Hells.

Not rly a nice place for us to go:) My bet is that we;ll be going in Silver Marches to stop the drow/orc/dragon invasion and hinder Lolth plans to take control of the weave(Mystra), Shar has also her eyes set on the weave and so does Cyric.

Valindra is only a pawn in the hands of Szass Tam, while Tiamat has allied with Asmodeus and only recently moved to nine hells and left Bane probably to continue the fight with Bahamut.

Is a god war out there and we are trying to save our skin :)
