For all those people who might be able to pay attention
Once a day, get the start stuff quest from the mayor, talk to the lady just across the path from him, get the coupon for the free bag, put it on your belt and use it with a party to drop stuff.

My question would be this, (and I hate to say it outloud but not like they wouldn't think of it):
What's to stop Ninja $%^&$s from joining 100's of parties with no gift to give?
Did you really think anyone could steal the power of the god of thieves?
Yeah, had a player invite me to party, i went ahead and used my lantern, but then they immediately gathered all items and left party.
Lanterns should not be able to drop any gifts until all players have triggered the lantern item. if willingly giving gift, without receiving one, there should be a confirmation first.
I show player support, by only playing Neverwinter as F2P

And they can't be traded, so you can't show people to prove it.
I guess stock them up and then find people you might be able to trust.
Easier for large guilds, I spose.
The web's full of trolls and grinches, unfortunately.

This is just another example of "We have a ton of options on the table for these things to drop loot....this last option here is the most exploitable/griefable, so lets go with that."

The problem, as I see it, is that the devs could have added a little bit of instruction in the item description, to clarify how this works; "Put this item in a potion slot, target a teammate, then use to to give the gift to all your teammates".

Do you invite random strangers into your house to open Christmas presents with you?

Gift of Simril tooltip seems pretty clear...
"Use: Target a party member and release to grant all nearby party members wondrous holiday gifts!"

Some of us are soloists these days... and this seems like an unnecessary stifling of options.
And on top of that!... I did group up with people yesterday, activated the lantern.... and got nothing for it.

Your gifts GIVE gifts, not receive them. Group with others who will in turn use their gifts on you.
You open your gift in the party and each of the others receives a gift. In addition, you get a gift in return, but how good the gift is depends on how many are in the party (more=better).
This shouldn't be necessary, of course, but with countless tales of people jumping out of parties as soon as they get their gift maybe the mechanics deserve a second look.

All I got was lights. Is there anything else we can get?
There is a very small chance of getting a purple bag, which contains another gift and possibly some stuff similar to the parcel.

Sorry Zeb, I didn't realize that was considered a no-no.
So I guess I'll just open the gift and discard/refine the stuff unless I get real lucky.
