Game keeps reverting to Windowed mode

Hi,

every time I put Neverwinter on background (alt+tab or windows key) and I come back to the game the game changes display settings from fullscreen to windowed, but remains in a fullscreen mode which leads to that everything is blurry and when you click on something (inventory, skills, menu etc) it acts as position of the desirable item(option) were displayed in windowed mode altho your game is still running in (bugged) fullscreen mode. Therefor you have to click somewhat to upper left from your interactable object (such as menu when trying to change it back to fullscreen) and it's quite annoying.

My native screen resolution is 1920x1080 but I am running game in 1440x900 cos I have shortsightness and in 1920 resolution the text is so small I can't read it (no I didn't forget to put on my glasses :p) even tho I have 24' monitor.

been like this since day 1

i never found a fix, no one ever helped

    i gave up

but, for whatever it's worth, same situation, always set it to fullscreen (non-windowed), any time i alt tab, it throws me back into windowed fullscreen, only game that does this nonsense

like i said, i gave up, so now i just run it windowed fullscreen, cause whatevs is the majority opinion

Why don't you just increase the font size?

After Alt+Tab, when in game, use Alt+Enter to return to fullscreen. When you exit the game, ensure you're in fullscreen mode or it will be all messed out on next start.

that helps for chat, but not for the rest of the game (at least I am not aware of that you can increase font size for entire game) besides even inventory icons and skill icons are so small like there was no space for them, but there is plenty. I wish they didn't make is so small. Smaller=/better

For some reason, the game keeps going back to Windowed mode every time I load up the game. This happened occasionally before, but has been happening every time since a few days ago. I'm using a GeForce 750Ti in DX11. Anyone know how to fix this issue? Thanks.

Click the maximise button in the top right corner of your neverwinter window. And really, you should be playing in borderless windowed mode anyway, much easier alt tabbing that way :p

When you alt-tab it will automatically go to windowed mode. For me when I come back that mean hitting alt-enter to switch back to full screen mode. Windowed looks like *** compared to full screen.

I did find these console commands I think I will try when I get home because it is a PIA.

/disable_windowed_fullscreen Disables going into full-screen windowed mode when maximized

/useManualDisplayModeChange Manually change the display mode for fullscreen settings, rather than allowing Direct3D to make the mode switch.

I am interested in the results. Having the game change from full to windowed from alt-tab has been so annoying. I never figured out a way to stop it through in game (non command) settings.

However you have to do it, I would change back to full-screen mode when you come back to the game. In maximized window mode, the cursor targeting seems a bit off.

Thanks for all the replies, but I didn't explain my issue properly. When I load up the game and it's in Windowed mode, the first thing I do is go to settings and change it back to Full Screen. Even if I never alt-tab during that session, the next time I load up the game, it STILL goes back to Windowed mode. Actually, it seems to only revert back to Windowed after a reboot, so I'm wondering if it is a driver issue.

I'm also getting a lot of slow loading textures when riding around a zone with a lot of players (like WoD.) Like riding from white to next dragon, it sometimes looks like I'm riding through air. Not sure if they are related.

The problems with the game going into windowed mode, and not behaving properly, sounds a lot like you're using the DX11 renderer. You should probably switch to the DX9ex renderer. The DX11 one has never worked properly, changing to windowed whenever you tab out out. Worth a look.

The second bug is something that has always affected the game, and just seems a lot worse in mod 5. It has been reported endlessly- and seems worse with busy instances or high instance server load it seems to affect UI textures too (inventory, map etc.) as well as world textures. It's very annoying, I know- it has driven several people on my friends list away from the game, but I don't know of a fix.

Happens all the time to me too only for me, if I alt-tab (even in both windowed modes) the game becomes extremely graphic intensive, which feels just like server lag... yet I know it's not. (I'm not talking about the texture load issue, that's an entirely different bug, which is now in the Mod5 Known Issues sticky).

I really loathe that it reverts to windowed maximized mode when alt-tabbing. Even if I hit my windows key to go to the Windows 8 Live Tile screen, the game toggles to windowed maximized mode. I've never had any full screen program do this, save for CO, STO, and NW, when alt-tabbing. What should happen is that the game should minimize when alt-tabbing and when toggled back to, it should remain in full screen as it was when minimized.

I've tried it on DX9 as well, same issues. Game runs better on DX11, despite this issue.

Ouch, that's horrible, fun with Win 8.

Yes, the game is nicer under DX11 for me too- more shiny and seemingly less likely to get snarled up when things are busy- but I just can't stand the windowed mode thing. Suddenly losing fullscreen, and having ugly tearing sets my teeth on edge. If there was a slash command to send it to fullscreen, it could be bound to a key.. I could live with it, and have more shiny.

However, NW is badly-behaved with DirectX in general. Not since Oblivion have I know a game crash on tabbing out so often, too- it's amazing.

The most important UI setting FULLSCREEN (best performance for your pc then windowed) is bugged!
If you need to get to dekstop while playing it switch auto. back to windowed display and this every time you go to dekstop!°
so youve everystime have to go to menu and change this setting while you killed from enemy...

what im wondering about is that no one has reported that bug before...

Please fix this small but really annoying bug asap.
    thank you

Set "run in Fullscreen mode" at launcher options, not only at in–game options.

I have also noticed that the launcher does not appear to actually save your settings. I have an issue where I get an entirely black screen which is solved by selecting "safe mode" but even though I save this selection I have to manually select again every time.

Does anyone else have this issue. My game never remembers my full screen setting. Even if I edit the prefs file and save it as full screen on , next time I log in, windowed mode. Is there any way to get the game to remember that setting. And setting full screen in the launcher does not work for me at all. I just get tired of having to keep resetting back to full screen because the stupid game can't seem to save the setting.

Increase the UIScale slider to 1.5 or so. Everything, including the icons, will get bigger.

Game remembers fullscreen settings, but sometimes it fails to run in fullscreen and runs in windowed mode. This happens depending on what other programs you have running and what you did with your PC before running neverwinter.
What game always forgets is refresh rate, which is annoyng, because I have 144Hz refresh monitor and game always starts in 60Hz and I have to go and change it every time.

There's a bug with it. Either play in Windowed Maximized mode, Windowed mode, or keep changing back to fullscreen.
