...when I've heard Disheartening Strike had increased duration from 5s to 15s, I was initially grateful -- as re-applying DHS again and again each 5 seconds would be a seriously tedious job for both in PvP and PvE. A single DHS hit that would go on for 15 seconds would be a great buff in terms of Quality-Of-Life issues.
I've heard them saying they've reduced the damage by 10%, so well... it's an acceptable trade-off, I thought.
But as I've tested it again and again, I couldn't help but wonder why it's doing only 700...800 damage on non-deflected crits. Granted, this was against BiS opponents, but even so, even with heavy defenses a crit usually wielded around 12~15k damage per tick against light-armoured opponents. Against mobs, it wasn't too much to expect a 2.5~3k crit on average. Now it's dealing only 700 against players, and 1k-ish against mobs.
Then it hit me. I've checked the damage, and yes, it is a 10% decrease. But is it really?
THE LISTED DAMAGE IS A 10% DECREASED VALUE THAT RUNS OVER 15 SECONDS
..oh my holy facepalm... what this means, is DPS is now actually 1/3rd of what it used to be, not just a slight 10% nerf. It is doing 90% of its former damage over 3 times longer duration, meaning each single tick is only 1/3rd of what it used to be. It wasn't a QOL buff... it was actually a straight 200% damage nerf.
Do they want Whisperknives to simply be useless shadows of Master Infiltrators? What did us WKs actually get from this patch? A bug fix that allows a bit easier CC-break with VP, and that's it. Nothing's changed.
No -- something's changed -- they killed the only power among all our disposal, that was actually better than the MIs -- DHS, a reliable source of damage, and it is now 1/3rd what it used to be.
So now, what we have is a Whisperknife that is:
■ less survivable than a MI
■ zero self-buffing class features, left with only trash stuff like Razor Action and Advantageous Positioning
■ an at-will which is gutted down to uselessness, whilst the Gloaming Cut for MIs is now stronger than ever
...
Please, fellow WK TRs, try it out in Preview, and leave your furious comments in the Preview Feedback threads.
This is just unbelievable.
Stop making excuses. Be a man. If you know something to be broken, stop using it. Otherwise, you've got no right to be speaking of 'balance.'

DEVs forgot to DOUBLE the damage, THEN cut it by 10%.....
My thought.... hopefully....
But really, hurl 2 knives, lose stealth, or cross stab em for mega damage and not lose it immediately. The hell is a balance at?
I'm honestly running out of options regarding WK... It's STILL underperforming.
1) Vengeance's Pursuit is STILL HAMSTER and not relyable.
2) Disheartening Strike (THE ONLY reason I am a WK) gets nerfed..
3) My old build which required WK only is now dead with this new stealth mechanic
I have two ideas for upcoming builds but ****... Will WhisperKnife always stay the weaker stepchild?

VP will always be inferior regardless of buffs or WAI or ITC nerfs. You will never get it to work the way you want as in apply it to something else other than what you're attacking to avoid a hard hit. Which requires something to begin with, useless in LoL's boss, and the target to not be near you.
There should be a delay in VP where you shortly disappear, granting you temp immunity, before reappearing to strike. Against a single boss, you just teleport to them on a dinner platter. Just like fox shift.

I've seen jerkface perform very well with a WK, the encounters being BnS, VP and SS, the at-wills being CoS and DHS. The build was Executioner.
But ofcourse, you'd have to take a bucket of salt with considering a top-of-the-top level player skill factor, as well as BiS gear. On average, the dismaying loss of DHS is a huge setback, with not even marginal improvements to the path.
Looks like another long season of 'return to the gutter, build up from scratch with crappy materials' for people who like fighting, but not with the usual choice of MI...
(ps) I'm trying to make a Scoundrel build work out with a WK, but its a very steep uphill battle so far

Really though, is it THAT hard to make VP work like fox shift and give brief immunity? It's honestly the only way to make it work.
It's not that can't. It's they won't. At least, I don't believe that designating certain portions of the power animation as IMMUNITY frames would be as difficult as the version pandora wants, in which case they'd actually have to rebuild the power from scratch and center it around a mechanic that doesn't exist.
They'd probably have to develop a new mechanic which lets you 'designate/mark' a terrain and then remember it for the duration of its designation, and then implement a seperate mechanic that allows you to traverse through the terrain, perhaps through obstacles even, when it is activated. Currently, even the VP teleport doesn't let you pass obstacles which block LOS (which gives me the impression that the base mechanics of "teleporting" in this game, is probably a really fast-forward movement)
Compared to that, if Cryptic uses similar mechanics as other games, they can simply change the status of your character and designate it as the same dodge/immune status that comes out when you use a dodge, or when the HRs use Fox's Shift.
At least that's my take on it.
If they WON'T do it, then the only obvious reason would be that the developers somehow fear this might overpower the TR in some way... but really, Whisperknives overpowered just because the teleport portion of a power that you can use only once every 16 seconds gives you a short immunity time?
Fox's Shift would actually be much more OP than VP, even if it receives such immunity frames.

Well although I am sad about the very bad changes to the WK’s – it’s nice to hear that I am not the only one who is having problems with these changes. My own toon was built upon intelligence & recovery so I was not expecting great things – but I was expecting a survival mechanism. In truth I really don’t mind getting rid of perma stealth, but it could just as easily have been done by removing BNS and/or SS
Personally since I cannot see us being given a full respec, and since I just know they are going to do this anyway - I give up. I just can’t be bothered to start again from the beginning after putting so much time and effort into building up a couple of WK’s just to find myself in the same boat in the not too distance future.
I have just started dismantled my 2 WK’s – I think I will transfer over to a SW, or perhaps a melee HR – if I don’t like them I will try another game
I hope it all works out for you guys – but I strongly suspect when these changes hit the WK population will plummet to an all time low – and more than likely the total TR population, just like the GWF one has. But hey, I guess the non perma PVP population got what they wanted – good for them
Again – I really hope you all find some fun in this somewhere

There are some disappointments, yes -- but its only because we've been expecting so much. Overall, at least in my case, if I can rank my feelings about the new changes between 1 to 10, 1 being absolute disappointment and 100 being absolutely thrilled, I'd say I'm somewhere around 45.
The new changes are definately promising, and I like where the direction is going -- but the current incarnation of preview TRs is not strong and adequate enough to fully embrace those changes. My guess is we'll probably need a lot more time even after a few things get fixed, until all the pieces for the TR finally "comes together".
If we think about it, this is actually the biggest change upto date on ANY class so far. Stealth dependancy, as well as base mechanics, remained unchanged all throughout the game, straight upto Mod4... and then bam, what we have in preview is something that is totally different at a fundamental level.
Truly, the developers have worked up a storm to really 'redesign the class from scratch' and I'm grateful for that.

That's an interesting theory. Assuming you made billions of nerf threads and now you are not ok with nerfs on your wk. What's the matter, don't you understand now that your infinite dagger throwing can not deal same damage as melee attacks? Don't you understand it had to be fixed? And now, now you are telling players to leave furious comments on preview forum? Sounds like ,,my right is the only right''.

The current issue with WKs is that they can't even stay close to something without nothing more than 2 crappy backup dodges. How could it be more OP than 5 seconds of 50% DR and CC immunity from ITC? Just .6 seconds of immunity or something for Christ's sake to avoid an incoming AoE. You're stuck in DF's animation and you're practically dead.

It seems I was rather mistaken -- at least for Saboteuer and Executioner, Disheartening Strikes is every bit as powerful, if not more. It seems the problem was with Scoundrel -- as it offers no damage buffs at all.
In case of Saboteuer, I was able to proc 4k per tick DHS on mobs, 2.0k on average against players, a little lower against GF/GWFs. In case of Executioner, a slight combination using DHS, VP and Impact Shot was able to render well-geared (although not the most BiS) fellow TRs down to less than 30% HP with just 3 attacks.
It seems DHS is still powerful -- its only that the Scoundrel tree is HAMSTER.

The WK is slower than the MI, has no ITC. Meaning they are sooooo much more at a disadvantage against hard hitting AoEs and 1 hit killers.
