the Reward Claims Agent is confusing

I almost posted to Bug Reports, but I realized that I wanted more people to offer ideas on how to improve this interface.

The current interface shows tabs for Boxes, Claim, Promo, Reclaim, and Level 60. What is not at all clear, however, is what happens when I claim an item. Is it perpetually available so I can throw the item away and get it back later, or does it deduct from the whole account at once, or does it deduct only from this one character?
RewardClaimsAgent.20140819.png

The effect to my character is what I'm concerned about. For instance, my Boxes tab shows me the Dragonborn Legend Pack (available once per character), the First Time Buyer's Pack (redeemable by any character but only one character per account), and the Overflowing Dragon Hoard (which I have no idea how its redemption works). Likewise, my Promo tab shows me the Archmage's Apprentice (available once per character), Lord's Armored Polar Bear (redeemable by any character but only one character per account), and Fang Of Bahamut (which I have no idea how its redemption works). The gui should be very clear on these consequences.

I propose three tabs at the top of the gui, in this order:
  • Reclaim - for all items that can be thrown away and then claimed again by every character on the account
  • Claim - for all items of limited quantity for that currently logged in character
  • Limited - for all items of limited quantity that any character may redeem, but redemption quantity affects all characters across the account

I'd also prefer that Gateway daily reward items (the various packs) get added to the Claim totals rather than dumped into character inventory. The benefit of showing them here is that it cross-promotes the very existence of the Gateway game, and it reduces inventory clutter for the character.

I also think it would be wise to add a 2nd line to the gui for sub-categories of some of those three tabs. You can add things like the Level 60 artifacts to the Reclaim tab, Gateway rewards to the Claim tab, and Promo stuff to the Limited tab. At least it would always be clear to the player what consequence they face for finally accepting a reward.

It's just going to get more cluttered as the years go on, so it would be good to improve the organization of information now. What bright ideas do you have to make it better?

I do agree that, when you redeem something, a popup window should come up saying something like "are you sure you wish to redeem this? this is a one time only item" or something to that effect if you CANNOT redeem it once on each character you make.

Agree with this post. There are several things in this game that could be more user friendly. Sometimes just the minor things saves a lot of frustration. My vote is still for gear preview and ability to transfer AD from one toon to the next.

    I agree...

Although, in my opinion, the sections are fine but the items seem like they are put in the wrong locations.

The Overflowing Dragon Hoard and First Time Buyers Pack should have been in the claim section for instance. There's a number of items in promo, claim and reclaim which seem to be mixed up as well. As long as the item locations were standardized it would be fine.

    Boxes - Reclaimable Packs
Claim - Single Claim Items (Promotions or Packs)
    Promo - Reclaimable Promotional Items
    Reclaim - Piecemeal Boxes
Level 60 - Earned Reclaimable Items

This is how it was until mod 2-3. Then items seemed to be thrown into sections haphazardly.

EDIT - By the way, all items behave as what you categorized as limited. There are no character specific claims.

I can only speak for myself when I say those of us who've been playing Neverwinter for a really long time (since beta/launch) have pretty much got the Reclaims Agent thing figured out, but I can see how it might be confusing. So here goes:

    BOXES:
Anything in this tab is available to all your characters, current, past, and future. When an item says "1 Available" it means this character can claim one and only one. However, if you (somehow) discard it, you can go back to reclaim it again and you can always claim it on new characters.

    CLAIM:
Everything in this tab is a *one-time-only* item. You get ONE and ONLY ONE for ever and ever (unless you 'earn' the item again). This means that once you claim an item from this tab it's done. You cannot reclaim it again on this or any other character. Think of it as a "consumable" item and you are consuming it when claiming it.

    PROMO:
Just as it says, these are promotional items you've earned somehow. Most of these items are reclaimable, just like the BOXES items, such as companions and such. However, if an item says "1 Available" then it is consumable - you get ONE and ONLY ONE, so be sure to only claim it on the character you want to have it. For example: I'd earned the Armored Polar Bear - I was able to claim it once. Now it's gone and I cannot claim it again on any character.

    RECLAIM:
It may be different for others, but what I always see in this tab are the contents of BOXES - but unpacked - so I can "reclaim" individual items found in boxes. For example: Let us say I accidentally dismissed my Panther companion that comes with my Hero of the North box. I can go to this tab to reclaim only the Panther, without having to grab another full box and unpack it and then throw away the stuff I don't need (like the mounts and whatnot).

    LEVEL 60:
Obviously only level 60 items and I do not understand the purpose of this tab as I've never been able to claim anything from it. I'm sure someone else can explain what those items are and how to earn them.

I would expect to find the class artifact(s) in here if you visited the "The Vault of the Nine".

As much as some of the miscategorization of the Claims Agent bothers me, I'm FAR more bothered by the fact that I can't claim anything out of my Dragonborn or Scourge Warlock packs individually.

This means to get my bag, artifact, and companion (the only things useful for most of my characters), I had to claim both boxes and sift through for the things I wanted, and discard what I didn't. This is really annoying.

When I roll a new character, I don't collect the HoTN, Feywild, and Guardian packs from the mail, because I don't NEED most of the HAMSTER that's in them - mounts are useless on a level 4 character, I don't need to clutter up my inventory with fashion sets, the Stone of Earth is ugly and useless, so on. So I instead claim things that are useful from the Claims Agent. Bags, my starting weapon, companions, et cetera. The new packs don't let me do this.

I had the same thoughts when i was reclaiming stuff with the dragonborn pack i came to the conclusion that the way i believe it works is when it says "Special" in the bottom right that means you can claim it on every char once, but if they have a "1 available" that means it is a single claim for any char you choose to claim it on.

Level 60 is used to store class artifacts. If you have them, they are always reclaimable. You need a minimum of two characters, both with access to Icewind Dale, and have them complete the "vault of the nine" quest given by Jaraxle in IWD.

Once the quest is completed, the class artifact of the class completing the quest is available. It is re/claimable on each and every character even if they are only level 4, regardless of class.

That's helpful to know, thank you.

I approve those changes too. I've already filed a bug report for the preview window not even letting you see stuff on your back (like weapons and shield) because the lighting stays on the front of the character even after you rotate your point of view.
By the way, all items behave as what you categorized as limited. There are no character specific claims.

Then they are mixing their metaphors. :( The game uses the mail system to deliver packages BOTH to individual characters only AND to all characters on the account. One or the other, please. Then when you visit the claims agent and see familiar items there that you already redeemed by mail, it's perfectly reasonable to wonder if those limited quantity counts are for ONLY your current character or not. A specific section at the agent would clear it up the confusion nicely.

And that's a great use for another of those sub-tabs that I mentioned. Introduce a selection for each pack that's released over the years, then all of the items that are visible will come from that one pack. Redeem what and when you want.

Yes, it is far, far less clear than it should be. A first-time player should be told explicitly and specifically what they are looking at and what happens when they claim the item. I have been playing 7 or 8 months, and I still find it confusing. And the way the contents behave when you open the packs varies as well.

For example, in the screen shot, the Dragonborn Legend Pack is claimable by all characters for all time, but the Overflowing Dragon Horde is claimable by a single character only and BoPs, or the contents BoP to character when opened.

The screen should show this properly and also should show the contents.

After spending time in the summer festival, I'm convinced that all Bind-on-Pickup items (which much of the seasonal event stuff seems to be, intentionally or not) should go to the "Claim" or "Reclaim" tabs that I proposed. It's stuff earned by a specific character.

I'd rather it go to "Reclaim", so I can wear that garb now that I earned, throw it away later, then wear it again at next year's summer festival while I grind for different rewards. But that's a different proposal.
