Did anyone manage to farm a Doohickey by themselves?

I asked in a guild channel whether anyone had actually managed to farm enough Grommits to make a Doohickey by themselves (so without buying Grommits or Blueprints from AH or ZEN store - I am disregarding the level 1 profession items which would make this even harder).

However, no one in the guild channel had managed it. So I asked in a couple of other channels I frequent, and not only had no-one managed it themselves but they didn't even know of a single person who had. One guy did say he thought his friend had managed to farm up to the penultimate rank, but even that is only a small fraction of the way to the Doohickey.

So did anyone actually manage to get enough Grommits to make a Doohickey by themselves? Sadly virtual Cookies and awe-inspired looks will be the only additional reward for anyone who succeeded. (Well and the Doohickey you made of course)....

I made a Gizmo (rank 5) on my own and might've managed a rank 6 if I hadn't sold off a lot of my crafted rank 3's. That was no small feat. I wouldn't have minded a title along the lines of "I've been to hell and back and all I got was this crappy Gizmo".

I don't believe it was possible to make a Doohickey without blueprints or buying up refining mats....

It was actually *possible*. You just had to play 16 hours / day, constantly getting your 1 grommet / 45 sec from mobs, for the whole event.

    No problem, right?

Well lots of people did the calculations and figured that it was just about 'technically' possible. I am simply curious as to whether anyone actually manged to do it...

Why would someone farm 50 hours for something that is worth like 10 euro? oO

Yeah I certainly didn't manage it and I haven't heard any reliable source that said they did it either , in my opinion this was a potentially good event that was ruined by this one thing ,if they wanted a cash shop thing linked to it then they could have done that while making it possible to craft a Doohikey without having to rely on Blueprints or without having to non stop farm for idiotic amount of time.

Some people see it as a challenge.

For instance, you might want to check out what this player managed in Diablo 2:

I ended up making one, but spent more AD than time, piecing it together by patiently buying the cheapest parts possible from the AH.

Total cost was about half the asking price which is still a lot of AD, but it became a "mission" after I started, lol. Didn't hurt that I've been a mats pack rat.

Does anyone have experience with one? Useful or just arm candy? I haven't decided whether to sell it or not yet.

They are useful, theyll crit sometimes; I use it as a 4th-5th encounter. Though I think I may retire the character I have it on so thats sad.

And if anyone managed to just farm farm one. They deserve at least a title.

I made it to rank 5 1/2 and then gave in and bought those blueprints. Now on hindsight, I regret turning in my doohickey for a $3 professions pack. If I had gotten the mount, I wouldn't have felt so bitter.

But to answer your question, no, I didn't farm and couldn't stand farming from rank 1 to doohickey.

So of all the 300+ people who viewed this thread, not a single one even knows anyone who managed to grind out a Doohickey?

I figured that there must be at least one person playing Neverwinter who would try it just because it could theoretically be done....

I didn't even try.. but I made a pretty nice amount of AD selling grommets at the end of each run (they sold before I could even close the AH window, every time.) I don't know anyone who did it, but then I don't know anyone.

Weird isn't it? In this type of thread you expect at least one "My mate Dave-from-the-pubs ex girlfriend used to work with someone whose Aunt knew this guy who farmed one from scratch"

But nothing. Not even a single unlikely story of someone doing it.

Personally I like to believe that somewhere out there, there is a guy who did it. A person who saw the requirements, knew the deal, and thought "No Cryptic. No. You think I will part with Zen to get this Doohickey! I will not!!"
And he didn't. He sat in front of his PC farming for 72 hours straight and **** well earned it!

    That guy is my hero.

The reason we haven't heard from him is that he's probably in a padded cell.....

I managed to farm out about 1.5 blueprints worth, then gave up and bought the rest.

I was basically farming the Tower of Seladrine with my ~20 fey keys super slowly. Caved when I ran out of keys.

And it's sad to see that events like this could have been a very successful and rewarding one but was tarnished because of the mechanics. I'm not against dishing out real money to acquire the goodies but making it mandatory just to acquire the best reward is just sad, honestly.

    Yes, exactly.

When you consider what some people have managed in other MMOs:

    http://www.cracked.com/article_18907_the-5-hardest-most-pointless-world-warcraft-achievements.html

it seems astonishing that there isn't even a single person at least claiming that they managed to get a Doohickey. I really don't understand how this can possibly be given the willfully stubborn nature of (some) video game players who will try to do anything just because it happens to be theoretically possible....
