Sparkly Trail, an agent of good, or secretly a force of evil?

Has anybody else ever thought of the Sparkly Trail of Questing as somewhat chaotic? I mean, yeah, sure, if you follow it, you usually get to where your quest objective is, but the Sparkly Trail doesn't seem to usually take the direct, safest route. It winds all over and seems to take paths that make little sense, usually veering off the path to run through any and all monster mobs.

It reminds me of an evil genie or a monkey's paw. A chaotic, evil force that is bound against it's will to aid adventurers like ourselves, but, to amuse itself, will constantly alter the path slightly so it leads the hero right through that mob of giants or large hoard of wights.

I think it tries to take the most direct path, which sometimes involves going through mobs.

Now, sometimes I swear though that the sparkly trail purposely leads me into traps ...

My personal favourite is when the trail leads me to a cliff or chasm edge. I guess I'm expected to fly over instead of going around, but I don't have a Pegasus mount.

I always enjoy when it leads me directly through a cliff face, or into a building wall. Good times.

Buuut it's fine, cause lately I've been trying to do without the magic sparkling trail, and I'm doing ok. :p

Nonsense. If you're having fun without having your hand held, clearly you're doing something wrong.

Bwahaha. Exactly. I've had people rate one of my quests badly because there was no sparkly trail leading them directly to the "item" they are searching for in an area. *facepalm* It's the ADHD generation.

Magical GPS works about a well as your real world GPS. That is my 2 cents anyways :)

If you design a Foundry you have to be careful where you place your next quest objectives.

I made a Foundry for the upcoming Foundry Contest and some beta tester complained about the amount of mobs he had to kill when the quest dialogue was saying to get out of there. The next waypoint was basically to his right and around some rocks but the fairy trail cut straight through 20 mobs. (I moved it so it is more obvious and it does not cut through them but it is an option that they could do.

So if not played properly and the game has waypoints the dialogue has to fit how you enact with the Fairy trail.

I recall that sparkly paths on Mt. Hotenow often led right through mobs as the road itself curved a bit of a long way around. You pay more attention to little things like that after dying a few times...

i like to think of the sparkly as a good dm it will lead you to your destination but if you dont think on your feet it will lure you into a huge mob of monsters or an impassable obstacle i am not sure that it is working as intended but i like it the way it is
