What is the scope of a mount upgrade?

I want to upgrade a mount to rank 3. My question is, will the upgrade be available account-wide or only for the character purchasing/applying the upgrade?

Mount upgrades are one time use , so whatever mount on whatever character you use it on gets upgraded.

Even when the mount was bought with ZEN and is available to all characters is the upgrade still only available to one character?

Only for that character and only for that specific mount.

Long story short nobody should ever upgrade mounts. It is a complete and utter waste of AD and way more expensive than other options.

I try to be fair to the developers when making opinions but there are two features in the game that make me want to bonk some developers on the head.

One of them is the fact two people can vote three people out of a dungeon. The other is that mount upgrades, even per character, are literally double to triple the cost of their account wide Zen Store equivalents.
There's just no justifying the Mount Upgrade cost.

Upgraded mounts really should become account-wide so that players will consider doing that.

    Thanks.

And I totally agree. I did not buy me a green mount because it was cheap, but because I like it. Now I have to buy me an ugly one just to have a faster mount.

Please, devs, make this account-wide and purchasable with ZEN, too! I will certainly buy it when it becomes available.

Unfortunately, I don't care for most zen mounts. Stormraider Clydesdale looks okay and is the cheapest 110% mount.

I think they are making big bucks out of this, because they are sure releasing a lot of cool looking mounts on crappy green speeds.
To me, this decision is very unfortunate, but seems to be the case.

Especially since the Upgrade does not provide an improved skin. I love my Sleigh, and would be willing to save and upgrade to Purple, if each upgrade made it look different than every other Sleigh. Maybe Gold & Red Colored for the first upgrade, and larger with more detail works, for the second one.

For mounts, simple Armor and Livery changes would be enough. Especially if the Upgrade Option allowed you to choose Armor and Livery Colors!

i don't know if a lot of mount upgrades happen. all i can say is from my perspective, it is not of value to me. i have purchased some of the rank 2 mounts because i love the way they look and hopefully some day they will revamp the upgrade system to make zen-purchased mount upgrades account-wide and make individual mounts account bound.

I didn't want to be riding about on just another horse so ended up buying the pack with the spider mount. Mostly based on my experience of STO ships in the store for a fancier looking ride.

The way the game is currently setup makes me think not much planning went into the mount system.
    1. Upgrades are far too expensive for what they do
    2. Zones are pretty small making the benefit of a fast mount minimal at best
    3. The lack of a "stables" tab similar to the idle minions means that once you have a mount there's less incentive to bother collecting others due to expensive bank space

If they wanted to actually make decent money off the mounts in game they'd reduce the cost of upgrades and add the stables tab. Those two things alone would provide the AD sink they obviously consider the upgrade manuals to be and the incentive for people who are less of the diehard collector to actually grind out the festival mounts or think about buying a fancier looking zen mount.

They also need to look at the cost of the zen, AD and trade bar ones as the prices vary wildly just for the basic horsey look, to the stage where a green costs more than a blue. Currently the green horses are between 400 and 1440zen with blues starting at 1200.

AD horse is 800k, eight hundred thousand! No way anyone can consider that a basic green horse at that cost is priced to sell especially when the manuals are factored in should someone want to bump it up to purple.

I'm sure they could make money selling account-wide mount upgrades (for each separate mount if people have multiple mounts) in the shop for like 10 bucks for each level.

Do mount upgrades give the mount a new skin? (i.e., like companions?)

    No, it does not.

I've upgraded 2 mounts actually, one 110% shadow wolf(from 50% to 110%) and one Jelly cube(80% to 110%). But it's the kinda expense I really have to think about. If they were account wide upgrades I'd probably have upgraded many more mounts.
