A seriously long time since I logged into the game.
So... I apologize now for my weak search-fu, but I honestly did not find the information I thought I needed.
So, I fired up ye olde NW launcher, clicked on the "forgot my password" link and was taken to Arc.
Hrmmm... okay? Not sure what that is all about, but I go through the ringamarole of making a new password.
Apparently that password doesn't work in ye olde NW launcher.
What am I missing?

Try using your email address. I had some troubles lately between user name and email address... Otherwise you are going to need to get help from ARC. I have ARC installed, but I don't run it..
They are going through growing pains, and it's really hard to guess what is the root of your particular issue.
And your search-fu didn't fail. There isn't much related to your question to be found here. The ARC site is where you need to look for your answers.
I hope you sort it out, good luck.

I'm confused, though... are we supposed to be using Arc to launch the game now?
I honestly can't even remember if I ever had a Cryptic Account... I don't think so.
And I thought my PW acct info was used for launching NW... or am I mis-remembering?
Do I need to do something to update the launcher?
I'm honestly just really confused on how all this stuff ties together any more.
Like I said, it's been a very long time...
Your Perfect world account is all you need. Cryptic accounts got phased out years ago.
Arc is the new perfect worlds unified launcher. Its not completely mandatory, yet. But its fast getting tied into every PWE game available. If you have the old neverwinter.exe file you can still launch the game normally. If not youll have to use Arc.
Just think of Arc as PWEs own version of steam. By logging into Arc, you get a single unified login to all of PWEs games.
Ugh... I was never a fan of Steam. Actually uninstalled it from my 'puter.
So... am I understanding that my PW account is not the same as the Arc account?
Because I just went to the account on Arc and it does have my old NW history on it.

Ok.. just to clarify IN CASE it's relevant. My original PWE account (which was created at the time of the PWE/Cryptic merger so I don't know if it's cryptic or pwe... was in STO and the deadline to merge was set, but not passed...) works like it always did.
I created an account for my wife, and it let me choose a user name (@name) but not a login name. So she can log in with the email account, or she can login with some weird string of numbers that I can't remember but is shown in the login field when I next login after logging that account out.
Support has already shown an inclination to cause users to create new accounts when they can't access their old accounts and cause further confusion (through misunderstanding or I don't know what.)
Anyway, I think at this point you have two options..
If you can access the website with your existing account info, open a ticket and get help.. or start from scratch.
--- OK so you can access the old info on website. Open a ticket. Tell them you need your creds emailed to your registered account.
You might end up having to install from scratch, there have been LOTS of changes since you last played, and the actual client may be broken.

Well, I did open a ticket, but I'll be honest, I don't have a lot of faith in CS.
In fact, one of the reasons I quit playing was because when I had an issue with the Foundry Quest and opened a ticket, their first response was basically, "High volume, we can't help you", then they marked it as resolved.

. . . The same username and password you used to log into this forum and web site is your account login and password. Your forum name here should not be your username, if it is, contact support and let them know.
. . . If you have the game installed still, you don't need to install Steam or Arc yet. Even if you do install Steam or Arc to install the game, you don't need to run it past the first initial run to download the game installation files. After that, just make a shortcut to Neverwinter.exe and run the launcher manually.

Your PWE account is your Arc account. That is the entire point of the unified launcher. One global account, one login for everything.
As far as your old history, its not linked to Arc. You have not done anything through Arc, so therefore you have no history. Arc only shows stuff done through Arc. Anything done outside of it, or before it. Still exists, it just wont show.
I rarely use Arc myself, so despite me having more days played in NW then what most people would consider healthy. Arc only shows me with a tiny fraction of that.

I should clarify... I could see my old ticket history on my Arc account page.
You are correct that I have zero gametime logged, however.

Hrmmmm.... Honestly, this may be part of the problem? Not really sure, since I've always used ImpishKat in some form or another for all my games & game forums. I can't remember what form I used for the NW launcher/ingame handle, though.

I do have it installed still. I've gone to the files and tried launching it from there, as well as I dug into the "live" file and tried the application under that file. That one went to a cryptic launcher and crashed post haste.
If it is any consolation, my acct with cryptic when I started Champions (man that game COULD have been promising) they were solely with cryptic. When champions found out that they were craptastic, they merged with perfect world.
Since the merge with perfect world my handle has never been able to satisfy the account name login. This makes me happy because it will only work by email now.
I chalk this up as being extra protected from hijackers.

. . . Actually, Atari owned Cryptic back then and to try and prevent bankruptcy, they sold Cryptic to PWE. Atari pulled Cryptic's strings and made them do things they otherwise would not have, as most owners do with their subsidiary development companies. Blame the owners, not the developers. The Developers are actually your friends and want what all players want, a fun game. Unfortunately, publishing and owning companies usually have their own agendas, as we found out with Atari.

And now, lo and behold, it is verifying files. yay.
We'll see how it goes from there...
. . . Sorry I missed your previous message with the quotes. Once Upon a Time and then Game of Thrones took a hold of me for two hours.

Closing this now as the issue was resolved.
