Question from a returning player

Hey there,

Ageoffan here, been playing WoW quite a lot recently and seeing as I am 14/14 there I decided to start playing Neverwinter more actively in the very near future. Now, I play as a tank (Or at least I hope I built it correctly) and I recall quite well that when I quit (actually it was THE REASON I quit NW) was that tanks had no use. One heal and all mobs tunnel on your healer, or a mage just did one attack and same story.

So, is the situation with tanks better now? Is there actual threat now?

Thank you for your time.

Tanks are much more balanced and stronger in PVP. If you're looking purely from a PVE perspective, a GWF will fit the tank/damage role better.

That's good news, so the defender class isn't much of a tank now then?

Agro has been fixed. GFs (Guardian Fighter), for the most part, hold agro very well. Problem is, that is not all that useful anymore. In a poor to average group a GF can help. But in most cases, your typical dungeon run gets reduced to a DPS race. Mass mobs up and nuke them down with big damage. And in those cases a GF just cant bring the damage that these speed groups want.

Because of this the GF has been replaced with the GWF (Great Weapon Fighter). They are just as sturdy, and bring plenty of DPS as well. So while they might be lacking some of the agro tools the GF has. They make up for it raw power. Currently the most popular group set up is to just clump in a few GWFs and Wizards together and just nuke everything as you go. With a Cleric being strictly optional.

Now, mind you, this is how it is in the random madness that is queue pugging. GFs still have a role, provided you have a guild or friends able and willing to support you. Also keep in mind, that the game is going through the middle of a major balance pass. They have pretty much set aside one dev to completely re-adjust all the classes. GWF and Ranger are first on the chopping block. When Wizard gets chopped, it has potential to change the entire dungeon dynamic. Something that could benefit GFs.

Thank you for the information, much appreciated. I guess I will hold off on making a new class or going on with my GF. Main reason I want to keep playing my GF is that he is lvl 60, and going with that he has some entry/mid level heroic 5 man gear. But at the same time I do not want to feel useless.

Hi guys, I'm a returning player too.

What is being nerfed/boosted on a gwf with the upcoming patch?

Off topic: Before quitting, i remember having 2m AD and a lvl 60 GWF with about 10k GS.

What do you guys recommend to do with my 2M AD?

the situation is far worse.holding aggro is much more difficult with a HR in party.Cause aggro is directly influenced by dmg.And HR does way more dmg than any GF.
GF armors sets were nerfed,Stalwark in the past and KC in near future. All classes in the long run improved their dps and gor buffs.GF stayed the same or got nerfs.
GWF Sent replaced GF in all dungeons except 5700gs requirement T1 dungs.
GF survivability remained the same ,all new armors give bonuses to defence.Yet we all know above 3600 defence in useless.
GF Conq dps tooltips show higher dmg than actual dmg done...and the list goes on...
