As the title stated, i recently take a lesser version of Briatwine for testing. The results are stated as below:
1. Just plain 2% damage return.
2. No activation of Weapon enchant effect on damage return.
3. No activation of High Prophet debuff on damage return.
4. No reduction of damage taken or it is too small to be noticed.
5. You say it proc Astral Seal but is it useful in this way??
So, why use briatwine except annoying ppl with future HD debuff? Is there any other function of it in live??
I switched to a Greater Briartwine on my GWF for PVP. Here are the benefits I see to it.
1. As a Tanky Sentinel Any extra Defense + damage is good, and when you are over 30k HP it adds up.
2. Ever attacked someone with it equipped while you have damage numbers displayed? All those extra numbers are distracting as hell.
3. As you mentioned, with the upcoming PvP changes I want to move away from SF and extend my survivability as much as possible.
The Enchantment does exactly what it says. So they do 3.2% less damage to you and that 3.2% is reflected back to them on my Greater. I haven't done a lot of testing, so I am actually curious if the calculation is done before or after your personal mitigation. I would like to figure this out as here would be an example: At base Crit VS Base Mitigation (no buffs or debuffs)- Let's say a CW Crits you for a 20k Ice knife with 23% Armor Pen... I have 43% mitigation... So he would normally do 16k instead, but with the briartwine would it be % of 20k or 16k reflected? Either 512 damage or 640 reflected? I know this doesn't seem that great, but consider the upcoming changes... and the extended lengths of fights. Finally, my really big question... does it calculate before or after deflection? As a Sent with the feats and Passive Powers I reach around 46% Deflect chance regularly.
Anyways, outside PvP I would still much rather use my SF, and I don't see any reason to change that.
Just use a barkshield if you want more damage reduction. Or a soul forged for basically 2 lives. This enchant was only good when tenes were OP and it proced them all day.
Are you sure it lowers the upcoming damage? The description says it just reflects a % of damage back to the attacker. So i thought i was just that. Is it % of incoming damage taken away and reflected to the enemy?
Also, i thought it could proc the weapon enchant. Read it somewhere about someone using it with Thunder enchant on weapon. But may be it was a bug and got fixed...
Right now , Weapon and Armor chants in PvP specially, are highly unbalanced and the only reason i see is that the people responsible for this simple do not care.
At this point of the game, how can u evaluate Terror Vs Gplaguefire in PvP...
Or Negation Vs Soul Forged
Or all the other forgotten chants such as Feytouch , Frost , Fireburst , Bloodtheft , Lifedrinker etc
There is no place for them in PvP which is sad because my favorite part of the game keep on getting smaller and smaller

Dont forget someone still using bilehorns and vorpals but i do admit other enchant has no slot in pvp unless for RP issue. I am using lesser plaguefire atm.
