Is there a way to not swap to Ranged every time I zone?

From what I understand, your character is "reset" anytime you zone - this is why you'll be off your mount or (if you're a CW), you'll have your shield turned off, when you zone. Since the default state for a HR is to be in ranged mode, this behavior would explain what you're reporting...

Makes sense. Wish there was a way in "interface" to change "default mode" to Ranged or Melee.

It's funny, really - even going back to City of Heroes, there was an issue where your state would be rest everytime you zoned. In fact, if you were suffering some kind of DoT effect when you zoned, the tooltip would change from "Enemy X's attack caused you Y damage" to "An unknown source's attack caused you Y damage".
Frankly, I'm not sure why they didn't implement some kind of "Respect player state when zoning" system - probably figured it would cost too many resources (server-wise) to track and preserve every player's state whenever they zoned...

Yes, it's just one of those minor UI "quality of life" rough edges which wouldn't be too heinous to fix, but which must go on the list behind the actual bugs. Still, they seem to have done something good to the alignment of the heads of GWF weapons, another minor niggle, so there's hope yet.

Edit: I noticed that I can't create topics, only reply to existing ones. Is there something I missed?
