What's the real use of the Thayan Lair Key?

Please enlighten me because i can't find a use for this item when
a) already completed knox's lair quest for the day,
b) already opened the arcane coffers for the day and can't forge another gauntlet.

So what's the point of this key?

    I've only used them once, but i was able to run a lair and open the chest at the end with a key, after having already completed the daily lair quest from Knox.

    Consequently, you don't need a key to run the lair with someone else, if they have the quest, but you won't be able to open the chest at the end.

    Grants you access to either Death Forge, Phantasmal Fortress or Dread Spire, and unlocks the reward chest upon completion, but not the Arcane Coffer.

    Its good for farming the mark of the day i suppose :)

    OHHHHH, so the chest (not arcane coffer) can still be gotten at the end to farm treasure troves even though you already did the daily from knox.
    I did not know that, i just assumed you could get one a day and only from knox's quest.
    So i'm guessing people that have a lot of time on their hands could farm for mark of powers all day and sell em back for some profit since there's also a chance to get epic salvageable gear. Although i think it's a slow method since it's rough AD when salvaged.

    It's also a good opportunity to try and get some purple gear, if you're a fresh level 60. Just one important note - you don't get a cipher from the additional keys, so you can't speed up your campaign advancement by buying more keys...

    No you don't get the mark or cyphers when opening the chest if you don't have the quest. You only get the random chest loot. Considering the stuff you want is the marks, cyphers, and coffer loot the keys are pretty pointless.

    Thats only fair, also it would be very likely you only break slighly even with spamming it, as salvaging gear is about 3000-5000

    I have to disagree with this. The ad cost of the key makes it so that you are going to be better off once you factor in rng to just buy some random drops from the ah. It is not a cost effective way to get gear even disregarding the fact that the stats on the armor are very poorly done.

    of course they are poorly done they are barely epics not even set items its like getting epics from unicorn/drake seal merchant only free or 5k ad i prefer free and i also made the mistake of buying 3 of these keys I wanted to see what the point was and there really is none.

    kind of wish you could pay for the "supplies" for gauntlet that roth modar says he needs a day to acquire though for a few extra tries but live and let die i guess.

    You can farm the marks on specific days, just that the cipher won't be rewarded.

    Note that the key is consumed upon opening reward chest, not entering the instance.

    Thank you for the info. I just bought a key and tried it out. It turns out the treasure trove can still be gotten, however it will not be the same as the other usual treasure troves. It gives everything out but the Ciphers and the Thayan Scrolls.

    Now thinking further about it, doesn't seem too profitable.

    One last thing, i want to ask. I never gotten that Cask of Wonders yet so i don't have a clue what it does. But i know it is a usable item.
    What items can you get in there?

    I think you can get either Blue or Green marks (any type) in the Cask of Wonders. It's not really that great a drop anymore since for some reason their prices are rather low.

    But you can get thayan scrips you can't use or discard. Awesome, isn't it? :rolleyes:

    I think I have over 600 on my main char only (and probably 300 on n.2). Of course there's no consumables vendor like in Sharandar. It would have been too useful.
