Up until this point I've been running a normal Plague Fire on my GF but as it is a DPS-hybrid I have been wanting to try a more DPS-orientated enchant. I asked a guildie if I could slot his Greater Vorpal and go whack some dummies in the Trade of Blades.
To set a bar I unslotted the PF and hit the dummies with no weapon enchant. With the following stats; 8k power, 1.8k crit before Timeless set boost & 1.9k arpen and the biggest crit I got was 9k off of Lunging Strike. I then slotted the Greater Vorpal and proceeded to see a highest crit of 11k off of Lunging Strike. This didn't impress me.
PSA: You don't need to grind Spinward Rise for your Elemental artifact main hand if you have some AD lying around. You can craft it via the Tyranny of Dragon's campaign screen.

Well, it is almost a 30% damage gain...
I am not sure what you expected, but I think that is a pretty good improvement.

I s'pose you have a point there. Over a dungeon run that gain would be noticeable but I was hoping to see bigger spikes.

Try useing the anvil of doom if u want a huge crit, like over 20k. I m useing it and I ve done in a dungeon I think 28k crit (without vorpal). It really depends on the encounter power that u have.
GFs have low crit, greatly reducing the effectiveness of Vorpal, especially in a damage over time setting. PvP GFs use it because even though they crit less, huge crits on Bull's Rush and Lunging Strike (especially if Knight's Challenge is up) can pretty much end a fight immediately.

I have heard good arguments for a vorpal on a crit stacked, timeless, burst PvP GF - but I don't like that style as they tend to drop too fast. The idea is that when you crit, you hurt a TON.
That said, I have a Conq GF, i change sets, and I balance my stats. I am using a GPF and i am very happy.

My biggest headache as a GF are other high-armored targets, since the fight takes too long and either someone joins them (so I go down quicker-or forced to go defensive) or I give them chances to re-SForged/Regen if I take too much time to nuke.
So, I'd either run with a Bronzewood or Terror with my GF. Timeless or not, I don't think that you can rely to Vorpal for classes with lower than 35% Crit chance.

Ugh I wouldn't recommend you to test your dmg on dummies.
Also did you take Dex into account for your arp. Let me know the total % of your arp.
Try getting a GPF and tell me if you like the output. Need to know if youre talking about PvE or PvP as well.

You should expect your DPS to go down when you slot G Vorpal over Plaguefire.
Plaguefire subtracts resistances directly into the negative, giving you ~30% extra damage for you and your entire team.
Gvorpal only increases your crit damage by 38% severity, which translates to about 10-15% more DPS for you only.
For DPS classes, they should slot vorpals since they focus on DPS. For other classes, it would be a good idea to slot plaguefire for supporting the DPS classes.

GWF is irrelevant to arpen. It is a 9% damage boost whether your opponent has 0 armor or 50%.

Don't be mistaken though. Gvorp will boost your crits by 38%, but the overall increase is around 10%.
